*PROOF THAT NOTHING IS BORING* if you have the right person giving you the in-depth details... Yesterday I had ZERO interest in cymbals - hell, I dont even know if its symbals or cymbals! - yet ive watched about an hour on symbols and enjoyed every second of it.
Theres a great deal of people saying something similar...some not even drummers. Makes me wonder what lead you all to his channel. But yea cymbals are auper fascinating. I swear im more into gear sometimes than actually playing
@@coreyw5981 Im one of those "not a drummer" people. Came here from DankPods just on the strength of his personality. Im not even a car guy and Garbage Time is one of my favorite channels now
@@coreyw5981 - It literally came up randomly on the auto play and there was a fascinating thing about cymbals - so I watched another and another - I never knew there was SO MUCH to cymbals. He makes it fascinating. I cant play any instrument at all - I am totally tone deaf
The 80's 2002 Ride is so nostalgic to me. I never considered a cymbal could give a lifetime brain imprint. The first set I played with, was my sisters boyfriends huuuge Tama set with Paiste 2002 cymbals in the 80's. I especially remember that ride and how huge it was. Love that sound so much. Hearing it just now gave me the chills.
2:17 "what other instrument gets bigger for ten years then goes back to normal?" Guitars at the moment with the extended string numbers seemed to be for the last ten years just kept getting more strings to meme levels now 6 strings seem to be coming back to rule it
7 and 8 strings are still awesome and actually being used to better effect by some musicians but nowadays there's more accessible baritones for people who *just* wanna dig into some chunky tunings, and bands like Loathe are making them cool. The novelty factor has definitely worn off.
@@actuallyasriel yeah unless I need to use the higher strings in my compositions I just use a Baritone or Bass VI for Low tuned riffs instead of my 7 string, my 7 string is Tuned to C standard with an extra high F string tho so it's more a Stoner Metal and Jazz guitar where I can get the Low C but shred higher than a normal 6 string When I need CHONK and shred tho I have a 9 String just so all my bases are covered But it's curious how both Big Drums in the 80's and Big Guitars now are a creation of the Progressive and Metal scenes, More is More as Yngwie Malmsteen said "How can less be more? It's impossible... More is More!"
I have to say Mr. Dank of the pods, I love your drummer stuff you put out. I myself am also a percussion nut and I just love this video especially because of the way the cymbals vibrate when you hit them. It makes them look like they are spinning that I just find so satisfying. Love this new channel and vids. Don't stop this fantastic work mate.
Bro I’m a huge fan of dank pods and Led Zeppelin and the drums so when I found you made this channel I freaked out!!! So cool watching you recreating bonhams sound!!! Can’t wait to see some covers
"It's not a bad condition vintage (thing), IT'S AN ABSOLUTELY THRASHED MODERN ONE!!!" Welcome to the world of collection needlessly expensive things from a long time ago.
Some of the best cymbals in my collection were found out by the street in people's garbage..no kidding. I found an old Zildjian 15" with rivets and an old Zenjian heavy15" hand hammered out by the road in somebody's trash. They were with an old 'MIJ' 4-piece drum set put out by the road for trash (!!). Paired them up to make a set of hi-hats and they are one of my best hi-hat sets. The drum kit I restored, played for a while then donated it to a local drum shop that donates percussion instruments to schools, etc. 'Payed it forward' but I just had to keep those cymbals.
i've been binge watching every single one of these cymbal videos for god knows what reason and i must say: i think i'm starting to see the light. like this is not a joke, i had a dream where i was playing a ride cymbal. thank you sir
I love the thought that a cymbal from 2002, over two decades ago, is considered 'thrashed'. The bands I play in have walls of broken cymbals that would be lucky if they made it to their 5th birthday.
True, that shed must be hard to cover security wise. A rough location is good enough with time. That's why I don't Put my entire guitar collection on social media display for eg 4-5 tops and not the good ones. I don't even want people knowing I posses them, let alone where they are, they're for Me. It's such a shame when you have people with real passion wanting to share the joy they get from it but the very act of sharing puts it all at risk 😐
I’m here from garbage time and dankpods. Love what you do. Love the content. And Frank, she cute. First class honours in jazz philosophy. Mate don’t worry about it I have a national certificate in art and design. so don’t worry about having a poor education. As long as you enjoy doing what you do.
I have no talent musically, or for that matter any interest in being a drummer. But it seems you could make content about any topic and and I would watch and enjoy it! Your personality just shines though in whatever you do Mate!
I’m the DJ in a Slipknot cover band (I’m also a Thrash Rhythm Guitarist and Vocalist in a Thrash Metal Band + Drummer I promise I’m a real musician hey) Our drummer in that band has a Lars signature kit from the 80s/90s… Wade is correct… them bois THICC!!!!
Just from stumbling across Garbage Time I’ve found myself here. I had to dig out my Paiste 2002 20in flat ride. Apparently its older than my dad as a 1953 build according to the serial number… but then 2002’s were only started in the 70s… what gives
I don't know if anyone else picked this out, but at the end when you played all 3 back to back, I could hear a different feel with the modern disc. The modern one washes out less, which means there was more space for grace notes. Didn't happen with the old ones.
I collect Coca-Cola stuff and I can't tell you how many 1996 remakes of Christmas Cokes (legit ones are circa 1920's-40's) being sold as actual Christmas Cokes (usually wrongly claiming the bottle was made in 26, when that's just the pat. date)
Paiste may be good, but my only experience with them were a pair of Paiste 200 hi-hats. They sounded like trash can lids. But the same can be said of other brands with their bottom lines of cymbals, i.e. Scimitar, B8, etc.
Still amuses me that Sabian B8's are considered trash because they're not B20 bronze while Paiste 2002's are made of the same B8 bronze and are highly regarded lol
@@SlyMan420 You can't just take a certain alloy and expect it to make a good sounding cymbal. There are lots of other factors that affect the sound quality, like how the metal is worked, rolled out, heat-treated, etc. So yeah, a 2002 cymbal can sound better than a B8 because it has been worked differently.
I believe, no two cymbals are exactly the same. Some may be higher pitched or agitated more. No matter wether it's cast or sheet.. and I use a 24" ride.
I absolutely suck at music and frankly don't have the money to throw at it but like...watching all these videos makes me want to get into vintage cymbal collecting lol
if you paid with paypal.. doesn't matter if you waited beyond the return/dispute window of whatever online store/marketplace you bought it from (i.e. ebay).. as even if for example you are beyond ebay's 30 day return window, you got like a whole year to open a dispute if you paid with paypal, and just explaining that it was a scam sale and explaining you did not learn until later that you were indeed scammed after learning of evidence/details.. paypal will still take your case and likely rule in your favor while not something I bought off ebay, proof that paypal will take a case even a year later, recently I had opened a dispute for something i paid for 1 year prior (commission type work). Paypal refunded me when i showed that the maker wasn't keeping their end of the transaction (haven't even started work after 1 year and was BSing me over the months).
Hi , I recently found a Ufip 22' Class Series Ride at cashies. It's 3800g in weight and has the letters HR under the bell. Have you heard these before ? Thanks dude.
