The Vintage Dresser Makeover w/ Décor Stamps

This weeks dresser was in really rough shape. For this I am using a thicker Chalk Paint (Annie Sloan) to cover all the imperfections. For the wow factor were using Décor Stamps from ‪@ReDesignwithPrima‬. The transformation is pretty drastic as you'll see in the end of the video. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Gorgeous. Well done Kacha. Just a little tip when stamping, a brayer may make it easier for you or a dry roller and roll it over the back of it when it's on the piece. That stamp is beautiful.

I always get extremely nervous when people in general paint a gorgeous piece of furniture apart from its original stain particularly ornate pieces. I found one I’m always a believer of originality and purity of the piece. This however has proved him wrong on pieces like this. I will say you’ve done an excellent job you have. It is a very gorgeous piece and maybe it’s these types of things that will get the younger generation to open their eyes to Age old beauty revamped .

very nice i like doing up dressers you are very inspiring from Australia , with the stamp if you get a rubber roller and use that over the top it gives you a more even cover then just pushing with your hands I find thanks :)

The black and gold was striking! I really liked the Damask stamp, can never have too much Damask lol.... I especially liked how you outlined everything in Gold using the tiny detail brush. When you were brushing the Gold on the hardware I couldn't believe all the detail in that hardware, love it!

Alright its official. I'm giving you the rating of 'Goddess of Paint' for one tip, and just for one tip. It may seem obvious to everyone but putting the paint on a paper plate...Genius. I know I have done it for little kid painting afternoons and glue, etc. But never for real paint. I try to use those plastic trays, juggling rollers and paint brushes...ugh. And then how do you environmentally dispose of the paint and tray? So I'll be using and disposing of a paper plate in future - so easy to get another one when the paint dries or you want to change colours. And in exchange, here's my painting tip. As I always get paint on my fingers, and as I always manage to get paint in the wrong place, or it drips or splashes, or whatever, I keep a wet sponge (or 2) at the ready for wiping off my fingers and mopping up any drips. Easy to use. Thanks for the video.

And just another couple of tips that you may know already but worth saying. You know how old wooden furniture has an old wood smell, if you put some lavender oil drops and water in a spray bottle and spray all the raw wood inside the furniture, it gives it a fresh smell. And I think its a bit of a deterrent for bugs. And this is an old tip: when drawers are old and don't slide very well, get a candle and rub it along the wooden track. Go hard and make it thick and the drawer will run smooth. cheers

I’m waiting on my dresser to arrive so I can paint it black. I ordered the acrylic 6 inch legs and my gold leaf. I’m 75 and haven’t painted anything black in about 30 yrs. I’m excited to get started on the dresser. Thanks so much for your inspiration 💕💕💕

Hey, btw, do you put topcoat over your gold? I used Dixie Belle Matte and didn't like how it made the metallic paint look dull. Anyone else go through this experience? Same for goldleaf. I want the paint to be matte and "metal" to be shiny. I just stripped and started over but how do I keep my "metal paint" shiny? Also, Kacha, I think you should do a video showing the projects you have inspired your followers to create. I always tag " #inspiredbykacha" on my FB. Now I am inspiring other women to restore their furniture! I haven't sold any yet bc it's all stuff I find in the trash or my own stuff just to learn with. I really love doing it though.

LOL...I'm still resistant to painting some furniture. On camera this piece didn't look, I'm sure, as bad as you saw that it did, so I'm thinking noooo don't paint that. However you did an amazing job on this and this piece looks gorgeous the way that you have finished it. You have an amazingly steady hand and the detail work that you do is really top notch. I'm making a similar furniture. Mine, was full with insects, so we send it to kill all of them, now, I have to refill all the small holes. When I think than I'm finished, I see 100 holes more 😭. I still don't know what colors to use. We are restoring and old house and every fourniture it's totally different from the rest. Thanks for giving us so many ideas!! I lover your Chanel. ❤️

What is New Doggie's name? I'm sorry I forget. He's soooo lovely. He reminds of Duke and seems to be quite a painting enthusiast. I lost my Bossk around the same time Duke passed. I bet they are painting rainbow furniture in heaven for us. Beautiful job as always on this dresser!

kacha I am amazed at this piece. I love how after you went over the stamp with the black paint you could not see the detail underneath of the paint. Sometimes with stencil that happens. Your dry brush technique is so on point. I practice and hope that one day I will match yours. I look forward to every saturday morning because I know I will be learning something new from you on youtube. Great job! You are right I would have bought this piece just for that mirror. Gorgeous!

Beautiful as always . How did you know the top wasn’t part of the original dresser ? Where you able identify the type of wood ? It would be nice to have learned how you made that decision. I like to save a wood top if possible but not sure how to tell when it should be painted over or saved . Just a preference. Thanks 🙏

Very sophisticated piece. Would love to see some transfers in a bone inlay design. It would be so much easier! Just finished a stenciled one, took me forever. Perfectionism is a problem for me, ugh

I would removed the veneer and not use chuck paint because of the maintenance require to keep it up.... also you can make your own chulk paint... Ann paint is expensive....

It is such a shame that this piece was so mistreated. I'm sure that it was incredible when it was new. As much as I hate that this piece had to be painted because of the damage, I think that you paid homage to the original design with the way you added the designs. By bringing out the detailing with the gold paint, you really kept with the intent of the piece. Such a special way to pay tribute! Awesome job!
