You can prove the resurrection false, and they’ll still teach it as well. They know much of it is lies, but they need Christians to believe it’s true. The more educated our society has become, it’s shocking that people still cling to obviously false claims from the Bible. The Abrahamic religions are well beyond their expiration dates.

What is fascinating is how increasingly the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures are being studied as artifacts of a by-gone time. So much of both scriptures have very little, if anything, that is relatable to the present day. And so much of Paul's writings deal with theological disputes that have virtually no bearing on or relevance to 21st Century life. Even Bible studies that begin with enthusiasm and prayers for understanding and discernment end in boredom and bewilderment, with the participants revving up interest in arcane arguments and a lot of First Century misinformation and religious propaganda that falls flat from exposure to critical thinking ... and demonstrating that misspent religious passion is simply misspent religious passion, regardless the century or the religion. You do an amazing job, Derek, getting this much needed information out to believers and non-believers alike. Keep up he good work.

An early medieval Catholic theologian - I thing Albertus the Great or Alcuin - consulted with rabbis and concluded that this passage was not a prophecy of Jesus.

I am watching this on Christmas Eve, 2023. Very ironic. In much of Latin America, Catholicism has a strong popular vein and has gotten syncretized with parts of Native and African religions. Mary is not one, but hundreds, each named for one of her virtues or an event in her mythic life. Her images (idols) have been found miraculously all over, in a tree, a river, etc. She is worshiped as much or more than Jesus, because of her power in intercession as the Mother of God. The devout often identify with one of her apparitions or one of hundreds of saints, said to intercede as well. Children get named for a favorite version of Mary or saint. There is at least one male and one female saint for each day of the calendar.

Whatsoever is starved enters into the head. And when something enters into the head your whole being becomes polluted with it. By 'virginity', I mean that Mary must have been in a very very non-sexual state. She must have been a very innocent woman. She must not have been thinking about sex; she must have made love, but that love was innocent. There was no idea in it: mind was not interfering. It was completely uncontaminated by the mind, uninterfered with by the mind. That's what we in Tantra say real love is. You meet a woman, you don't think about sex at all. But why do they say that he was born out of a virgin mother? They are too obsessed with sex, and to them it seems degrading that Jesus should come out of sex, out of an ordinary love relationship. That looks very very disturbing to them... and coming through the ordinary passage of sex? No, that is not possible. If Jesus can come through sex, then how will they condemn sex? Then how will they tell their nuns and their monks 'Don't ever go into sex. It is ugly, it is the greatest sin there is!'? (But ) if Jesus himself enters into the world through natural love, it will be difficult to condemn."

This is not a deception. The scripture is God's word. Stop deceiving people. Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

The immaculate concept/conception is definitely found in the Gnostic compendiums. It describes that the "thrice male virgin source produced auto genes which are immaculately conceived".

The catholic church is strong to their faith because they are not worshipping a God that doesn't communicate with them. There are may people that are walking in this earth today that already saw Jesus and Mary. It so hard for them to deny their existence, especially if you experience their power. I experience it myself.

This programs concept of the Jesus story is among the best I have heard, and falls heavily within the boundaries of my own thoughts on the subject and, acceptance of the idea that He is an Historical figure taken out of context and obviously completely out of the possibility of reality. The Pauline Christian movement and eventually Christian Church used the opportunity of the presence of Jesus and the Jesus movement to build a new Religion that is in line with the other Religions, pagan mostly with some form of the Hebrew Religious beliefs mixed in. All great leaders have virgin births even if their mothers had children before theirs. A virgin birth in the past meant something like EXCEPTIONAL .

Ya, the four Gospels definitely don't agree on when Jesus was born. Matthew has Jesus being born on 4 BCE while Luke has Jesus being born on 6 CE.

Luke took the virgin birth story from the Mahabharata - Indian scripture 2300BC "The sage Durvasa had blessed Kunti, daughter of King Kunti Bhog, with a boon. He initiated her into a unique mantra, through which she could invoke any divine being to provide her with a son. Kunti conceived her first son, Karna, from Surya, the Sun God, as a virgin, and had to abandon him". ....also the story of Moses floating down the river in a basket was also taken from this same story.

The birth of Jesus was simply done through artificial insemination. Mary could still have been virgin, and was inseminated. After all, there have been cases where semen had passed through the vagina, and fertilized an egg. Artificial insemination in those times was of course unknown. So, there have to have been a more technological advanced beings who might have been extraterrestrials who performed this procedure. A flying ship with a strong reflecting light might have been though of the Star of Bethlehem. A couple of beings telling Joseph that Mary was going to have a child, might have been though of been celestial angels. Jesus might have been part human from Mary, and part extraterrestrial father, or a God for them. Not disputing that there is no God, just in this instance these beings might not have been the real Gods. Humanity had created many religions and fight each other for them. Modern people marvel that without advanced technology, many incredible things were done in antiquity. Beings doing things using advanced technology must have been though of been Gods.

As far as Jesus’s conception being non-sexual, Muslim apologists would dispute this, like the late Ahmed Deedat, quoting Luke 1:35: "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee, and that which is to be born shall be called the Son of God." Deedat said that this language is "of the Earth, Earthy" and that the language of the Qu'ran account, "God said 'Be' and it is!", is much more in line with how God would beget someone to be born of a virgin. And then he asked members of the audience, "Which would you rather teach your daughter, the Lukan version or the Islamic version?" (1985 Ahmed Deddat debate with Xian apologists in Baton Rouge, it's on RU-vid)

The so called Immaculate Conception" refers to the conception of Mary, not Jesus. Although apparently no sex involved in Jesus' conception either but it is a very common mistake to attribute the term Immaculate Conception to Jesus.

Just to clarify...the Immaculate Conception doesn't have to do with the conception of Jesus. The Immaculate Conception is the idea that Mary was conceived without the stain of the original sin

I'm Spanish, and as you know, Catholicism is supreme here. One interesting thing, is I only learned about Jesus brother Jacob (Santiago in spanish, James in english) from the internet when i was 20+. Im not claiming they hide it or anything, but I even went several times to alleged tomb in Santiago de Compostela. But I always remember ppl referring to him as "the apostle Santiago", and never the brother of Jesus. I guess that's another way to "deal" with the virginity stuff

The dogma of the immaculate conception says that Mary was redeemed before all other people. An example that in principle every person has access to the kingdom of heaven even before the Savior was born. The dogma of the bodily acceptance of Mary into heaven is based on the same logic . Translated: Because Mary is redeemed and in heaven, all people have the chance to go the same way after their death. For this to be possible, God must exist. For all the world to recognize this, he must be visible. He is born as a human being. Many have not recognized him. This is what the apostle Paul says: If Jesus is not God incarnate, then there is no afterlife for anyone and God does not exist either.

I believe it was Richard Carrier who addressed the problem of Jesus’ brothers/siblings by explaining that members of a congregation often call eachother brother and sister. So the brothers (and sisters) of Jesus are actually the followers, not siblings.

Being naked in the Garden doesn't mean that they were not wearing clothes. Being naked means they felt vulnerable because of their authenticity. Putting their clothes back on is like wearing a mask, hiding their authenticity, so that they could fit in or easily. Eating the fruit means allowing your judgment to get under your skin. Judgment is the fruit produced by the knowledge of Good and Evil, the trees namesake. Forgiveness, apology, or humility is spitting the fruit up. Grace is leaving it on the tree, reserving judgment or at least are attachment to it. The church and even the Bible would have you believe that the original sin had to do with obedience but it actually had nothing to do with obedience. The Magi were priests of Zoroaster and astrologers. So the "star" could have been an astrological calculation that indicated a time and place for the birth of a savior. Not that I believe the story, just saying.

Since Derek, in his introduction, used the term "Immaculate Conception" to refer to the Virgin Birth, just to set the record straight, the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception has nothing whatsoever to do with the Virgin Birth or with Mary not having sexual relations with any man. The Dogma of the Immaculate Conception holds that Mary was born without Original Sin, unlike the rest of the human race. This is an entirely Roman Catholic teaching-not accepted by Protestant Christianity-and it is unrelated to Mary's sexual behaviour, her virginity, or the manner in which Jesus of Nazareth was conceived. The reason that the Roman Catholic church came up with this dogma is that in its understanding of Original Sin, the sin of Adam in inherited through birth (today we might say it is passed on genetically). Parents inherit the guilt of Adam and Eve's sin from their parents, and they in turn pass it on to their children biologically. This is why infant baptism was instituted: if a child died in infancy without being baptised, it would not be entitled to enter heaven, even though it had committed no sins of its own, since it bore the inherited guilt of Adam and Eve's sin. Catholicism invented a place for infants who died before being baptised: they called it "limbo" (the Church's teaching regarding limbo was quietly retired in 1992, when under Benedict XVI, the Vatican issued a statement dismissing the idea as simply a hypothesis). This is the Doctrine of Original Sin as taught by Roman Catholicism. Now, if Mary was born with Original Sin, she would automatically pass it on to her child, Jesus. The Catholic Church could not have that as part of their teaching, so they invented the idea that when Mary was conceived, she was miraculously free of the guilt associated with Original Sin. The state of being free of Original Sin is described as "immaculate". The Latin term for "Original Sin" is "Maccula Originalis". "Macula" in Latin is "stain; blemish; spot"-hence "immaculate", without stain or spot or blemish.

If the fulfilment of the virgin-birth prophecy in the Gospel of Matthew is correct, then christianity ought to have a record of two virgin- birth narratives. The first one would have happened in Isaiah's time, and the second one would have occured at the birth of Jesus. The original prophecy in lsaiah 7 was given and fulfilled by God to comfort the king of Judah, at that time. While the second so-called virgin-birth prophecy, in the New Testament, was supposed to have been given to Mary and fulfilled some seven hundred years later after the fulfilment of the original prophecy of lsaiah.

I'm Christian. The Virgin Birth myth is the afterbirth of the Trinity dogma. Jesus couldn't have been born this way or he wouldn't have been the Messiah. Jesus was the Messiah and his human Father was Joseph, the scriptures say the truth, but the truth cannot be seen if the mind is filled with the lies of Trinitarianism and its Virgin Birth myth lies. The mind is diluted but the truth remains intact despite Trinitarian translation bias such as indoctrinating people with the word "virgin" (in reference to Isaiah 7:14) instead of "the young woman."

A problem with the virgin birth concept is that if Mary was not a virgin on her wedding night she should have been taken out and stoned in front of her father's house because "She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house." (Deut 22:21). Joseph and her were merely pledged and not yet married when Joseph found out about her being pregnant. Mat 1:18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Mat 1:19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. While maybe stretching things a bit, if a woman's family could not provide proof of her virginity on her wedding night she was to be stoned. Deut 22:13-21. And while finding out she's pregnant before her wedding night is a bit of a stretch, it's hard to imagine anyone would think her a virgin if she was pregnant already. There was no "silently divorcing her" stuff, they were not yet married. Joseph would have simply pointed out her pregnancy and her parents would be left with the consequences. Divorce was already a "quiet affair", the man just gave his wife a certificate of divorce and down the road she went, with only those things he allowed her to take with her. She was already disgraced, for being a "betrothed virgin" in her father's house who was pregnant and obviously not a virgin. Unless one is a simpleton and believes that "Oh, don't worry, God did it" story. How did he find out she was pregnant anyway? Did she just say "Joseph honey, by the way, "god came upon me and I'm carrying his child"?" If Joseph noticed so would have her family and friends. AND long before Joseph did, as they were living with her and he was not. Or shouldn't have been anyway, they were only pledged. (I don't think they had 'bundling bags' in those times). There would be no "shotgun wedding", she'd have been taken out and stoned, and before Joseph could find out, if they were truly a righteous family. Did her parents notice her condition, assume her and Joseph just 'couldn't wait" and decide to force him to hurry up the wedding? I don't think it worked that way in those times. Joseph would have denied being the father, that Law was clear anyway. If they were unmarried and HE was the father he'd have been stoned to death as well (or at least one would think so as harsh as the Deuteronomy laws were on the matter). If they were unmarried and he denied being the father then the betrothal was off, she was guilty, stoned and Joseph got his bride price back.

Bills book is awesome. Listening to him though is complete torture because of all the Uh's and Um's which he used 483 times on this video. I wish he would work on that.

Stop saying "Jesus christ".....christ is a titel...not family name...Jesus wasn't the son of Mary and Josef Christ. And 100% he isn't the christ/Messiah.

I'm not so keen on Bill Zuersher's hypothesis. I think there is more weight in the hypothesis that Paul doesn't mention the birth of Jesus because Paul's Jesus wasn't Earth based, Mark didn't mention the birth because Mark was of the notion that Jesus was just a nice regular guy who had the Holy Spirit enter him upon John The Baptist's baptism of Jesus (passing through water), and then Jesus as 'God in Man' carried out his/god's ministry, Matthew and Luke needed to be more in-tune with the Jewish scriptures and prophecies to be more appealing to Jewish converts, like wise with John but John has Jesus as a full blown Demi-god, hence all the magic and miracles.

Here’s the thing i’m going to assume that anybody watching this at least except evolution. Because if you’re questioning the virgin birth you’re likely not a fundamentalist. But evolutionarily speaking a functioning hermaphroditic woman in the early first century would’ve gone completely unnoticed and so a potential virgin pregnancy that is pregnant with an unbroken hymen is not a technically impossible mutation. And examining the biblical account and appears that Joseph had sex with Mary and all of Mary’s children were from Joseph, when Jesus and Mary died the mutation died with them. And considering that hermaphrodites exist today but as of yet have not seen a repeat of a functional hermaphroditic woman does not exclude the possibility that Mary may have been one. In this incredibly rare and never again repeated natural event may still qualify as miraculous.

Clarity: The Immaculate Conception has nothing to do with the Vuirgin Birth. Immaculate Conception is not about the birth of Jesus. It is about Mary's conception - conceived without original sin, if believe in orginal sin in the western church's notion of it. In the Eastern church people on not born with the guilt of original sin. The term used is the sin of Adam and Eve because only Adam and Eve are guilty of that sin. All of humanity bears the consequences of that sin but not the guilt. So everyone in that sense is conceived without original sin.

I love this. I know it goes against what many people believe to be true. The Bible is inspired. Many points Christians can't explain. I'll say this clear, logical explanation of the Bible's history will do Christianity a lot of good for our national rebirth. Keep going. I'm a Unificationist. The virgin birth is a metaphor, on the sublimation of sexual energy into soma _ [ meaning psychic energy that feeds higher consciousness.] Modern scholars take concept out of context. As the ancients believed that celibacy was necessary for spiritual progress. The speaker takes the virgin birth much too literally, it is the higher self or soul which is waking up , or being born to its divine nature.

(Holy- The whole entire professed formation / Ghost-The principal of life, soul,spirit.) Jesus knew the the whole entire professed formation of life, soul, spirit. Jesus was a genius. Or Mary was a Gnostic. I came to the same conclusion that Mary was possibly impregnated by a soldier or someone very very high in ranking just by reading information. Its because the original gospels did not teach a virgin birth.

The stories of the Savior of the Israelites were created through investigative work and interviewing people who were not necessarily people who walked with Yasha during his time but heard of him and the things he did. These people worshipped many dieties and most likely gave information That was about dieties they knew of and just mixed Yashas name and life in with their dieties.

If the lamb has to be free of sin to be sacrificed and Jesus was supposed to be the lamb then on the cross he took all our sins upon himself and was sacrificed full of sin so the story doesn’t make sense. How can Jesus be the spotless lamb but also be the sacrificial goat that takes all our sins?

I have told believers, if I told you a story about a child born from a miraculous birth, persecuted by someone of power, experienced an awakening, was put through trials, performed miraculous feet’s, was betrayed by someone close to him, died and rose from the dead to ascend to a place next to his deity Father, who would I be talking about??? Many said Jesus and I corrected them and told them Hercules. So I can understand a few things being similar, but this story has the same elements and plot as the Greek “myth” of the demigod Hercules.
