im currently using the vive pro eye with lip tracking and index controllers. i have detached the headphones to use my own aswell as my own mic, bought myself two 5 meter aux cables coiled arround the main cord of the pro eye, and i think its going to be the headset i stick with for a very long time. ^w^ all thanks to my amazing friends helping me finance it.
That's what I had, and my brand new in box Pro Eye quit working 4 months in... Sitting down with friends in VRC then poof, no display except an occasional flicker in the right lens. Replaced all cables. I hope that I can get it repaired.
Is the main issue you have with most headsets are the microphone??? What headset would you recommend that doesn't feel like a massive brick on the front of your head?
I still have the original htc vive. I was an original preorder guy. Those laser sensors are still by far the best reactive zero lag sensors. I hate its gon camera, but I understand why. I have psvr2 and for gaming...the best. However I need a headset for AR work...and this is amazing at it
so you havent tried the elite and your going to trash it so your view and opinion mean "D" at this piont and you wasted my time and every one elses sad
Honestly silly as it may seem at first glance, I’ve realized that a talking bird probably plays an absurd amount of vr and is likely a much more trustworthy source than mainstream tech RU-vidrs
well certain things left out, bird man dind't take into consideration that the vive focus was obvious vaporware used as a test thats leading up th the new headset. also the fact that this design has been in the works since 2016, the prototype was called the photon. Its a slightly better quest pro that is actually more expensive if you buy the addons for face and eye tracking. He made a lot of good points tho
@@erif1179 Ah yes, humans trying awkwardly to get laid. The exclusive domain of VRChat... /s For real, people were "sexting" on flip phones and nothing on the internet should be shocking anymore. Even if I knew that this was 100% of Decoy's time in that space, I'd still value the perspective of someone who spends enough time there to construct/commission a custom avatar. They've probably spent a ton of time on the hardware, versus someone else who reviews cell phones for a living.
@@erif1179 spoken like a true outside in viewer. Except you left out the part where VRC is where all the new VR tech actually works before it ever gets integrated into any other game. Its more of a proving ground for new VR tech than anything else. And its got more than just "stand around and talk to people" features/games in it lol.
I think you might actually be suprised, I got a private demo of the xr elite and it really shattered my expectations. I thought it was basically just a flow with a back strap but it's actually really good. It's super compact and comfy with the best pass-through and hand tracking I've tried that's built into the headset. The price is a bit much but other than that I'd say it's the best thing htc has made since the original vive
Could you tell something about FOV? based on specs and hardware used it would be a great choice for me to get PCVR wireless headset with no SDE and clean image however the FOV is kind of concerning.
So you're going to preemptively dunk on the headset because every other device they've made has had a glaring issue that has, at best, taken a redesign to resolve and, at worst, hasn't been fixed. Okay, fair enough. At least it's not the Windows MR headsets or the Rift S or the never coming Rift 2. Other VR companies have and will deliver garbage devices at some point. Index has notorious build quality issues so bad they had to extend the warranty for all components and is still $1000 after 4 years. Quest 2s have terrible mics, literally melt while charging, has a terrible IPD adjuster, spies on you down to your 'wingspan' and micro-movements, and cost more a year after launch than they did at launch. Quest Pro is an overpriced Quest 2 with eye/face tracking and a "nicer" screen that you have to spend extra money on if you want to be immersed in your games. I look forward to the XR Elite because it offers things no other headset on the market does (Dioptre adjustment being a notable one we've been asking for since modern VR) at a reasonable, albeit high price. I want to have a DoF sensor with color passthrough, a hotswapable battery, various first party (and included) comfort options, to not need glasses or contact lenses in headset, have decent integrated sound, data privacy, and a lightweight design while retaining feature parody with it's competition. HTC may suck based on previous entries, but this one may be the culmination of their efforts and a result of learning what people don't want. Maybe give it a chance instead of writing it off before it even gets released?
just wasted a few minutes of my life......ehhh to save everyone time he doesnt like the new headset becauses the mic on all other Vive headsets were bad...thats it he hasnt had any hands on experience with it and he hasnt even looked at the specs........great content........
LITERALLY THE ENTIRE VIDEO YOU DO NOTHING BUT TALK ABOUT ALL THE OTHER HEADSETS THAT VIVE MADE AND HOW THEY ARE BAD AMD SAY LITERALLY NO SPECS OR ANYTHING ABOUT THE XR ELITE. didn't say a single spec about it or the fact that it's modular.
Will wait for it to actually come out. Other youtubers who actually got to try it out at CES gave it good reviews. Still though Jury's still out until it actually get released
Have you used it? If not you really can’t say anything. It’s a new device and from what I’ve heard so far from the people that have used it it’s pretty good actually but yeah they only had it a short time.
Hello decoy I'm new to your channel and I'd like some advice. I have an old HTC Vive and the full body headset with old 1.0 base stations and 2.0 trackers. I'd like to improve and face tracking. Would it be a good idea to have an XR Eliteor maybe shifting to the Quest Pro is better?
I had the opportunity to try the Vive XR Elite at CES in a private developer meeting and I can say it is the most compact VR headset I've tried, it feels very lightweight and comfortable, definitely a step in the right direction, in my opinion. It has the best past through I have ever tested, even compared to the Quest Pro. And they are going with a modular approach, so as a developer I definitely love the fact that you can remove and swap the battery and use the headset during long sessions. Feels really well balance.
I hear you, but the two HTC headsets you glossed over are the two headsets this one is the product of; the Flow and the Focus 3. The Flow's design and optics, and the Focus 3's tech, actually make for a very good recipe for a perfect standalone/PCVR headset. It's going to be good, probably even great. The real problem is that it's going to be obsolete in 6 months when headsets like Quest 3 start shipping with next gen chips, but that's a Quest Pro/Pico 4/Pimax Crystal problem too.
Cool vid~! I ended up getting an auxiliary lapel mic for 10$ that sounds better than the built-in Vive mic and taped that thing to the bottom of my headset lol. I like the writing of this, but since VRC mouth animations always lag behind the audio its still distracting. I wish there was a way to have that kind of playback that another player would see so that all the motions and audio were already sync'd up XP
I am still using a OG vive headset and yes the wands suck and the mic sucks, however. The build quality of the headset is still far better than that of the index. I have friends that have the index, and it's either the cable or something else on it breaks within the short time they've had it. I have been using my OG vive near daily since late 2018 and have not had a single problem with it.
Still using my OG vive too, and tbh, I've never had an issue with the wands. Idk, I kinda like them. Granted the only other controlers I've used are the Quest 2's. But yes, no hardware issues with my vive either in 5 years of use.
Perhaps see if you can snag a vive pro 1 hmd for cheap secondhand if you want a resolution upgrade without giving up the build quality and oled display (vive pro 2 is not good)
I will let you know how it is when I get mine in the mail, HTC might have a semi bad track record, but they are no Pimax XD wouldn't touch a pimax headset even if my life depended on it.
Wait, so you call it trash, but go “I’m not gonna look at the spec sheet, it doesn’t matter” when it’s a pretty massive improvement for standalone headsets…
I wouldn't write off the XRE just yet, especially with it just now being launched 2 days ago lol. It's shaping up to be an interesting competitor to the Quest Pro, and with HTC actually following through with face and eye tracking for the Focus 3 (albeit, maybe a day late and a dollar short), it seems like we might have something to look forward to with the XRE. Better resolution, hand tracking, lighter, WiFi streaming. Not to mention all that combined with the newest trackers they've been demoing at GDC, it's looking like HTC has some exciting stuff coming. It even has a pretty good mic!! Hopefully someday us Pro Eye users will have a headset newer than 4 years old lmao, here's to optimism!
im on the HTC vive server. and i see only problems with it in their XR elite chat.. like bruh, cracking. mods not working, software issues ETC ETC. Now im only in the vive server as i own a original HTC vive with index controllers and audio deluxe strap. and i bet this is way better in quality than the XR. (In terms or reliability and feel. not lenses or screens.) But really, HTC isnt the best but it does work well
So you just went on a 4 minute rant about other vive headsets. And didnt even say the reason why u hate the VIVE XR Elite. You just say “i predict itll be bad because vive doesnt listen to their customers.” like what???
Alrighty then, we’ll right now I have quest 2 and pro, I might return the pro cause I can’t get face tracking working, and I’m waiting a month for the light mask. Oie, the small magnet things suck, lol
Wow these comments aged so well huh. Even if the Headset was good, HTC support, software the like, sucks. People who were interested in yhis headset got snached which were commonly people who have either never graced a vr hmd on their face or have never spent more then 48 hours in vr. HTC dropping out of the consumer market is probably one of the worst decisions HTC has done and to come back with this headset, the most uncomfortable, light leaking waste of expensive plastic. Let alone their diopter being useful (it doesnt correct astigmatism) A note from my friend who bought one for its lenses, "It is the biggest waste of money I have spent." And it sits on his desk looking pretty ^-^ Stick to SteamVR trackers HTC.
Honestly the only bad thing is the battery life, but besides that you can easily do what ever you want with a battery pack or an extra battery, add a pc link, face tracking and full body trackers, and this is the smoothest vr headset I’ve seen so far, lightweight, comfortable, mic isn’t terrible at all, and you can connect index controllers. Not a problem so far besides the battery life, and that’s easy to fix.
I don't like the XR Elite for one particular reason... And it's one that's entirely personal and may be absolutely irrelevant to you. The frame which goes around your head is too thick and too close to your ears so that it's impossible to comfortably wear over-ear headphones. This is a blatantly overlooked detail for a headset with rancid-ass cans while punching above the $1.000,- mark. If you're heavily into music and the VRChat rave scene you probably understand.
I think the only argument I will give people is the fact that the have no support from the app developers out there. And if you don’t support the meta platform the fan base shits on it. VR is going to fail if these developers don’t stop this crap. All we really want to do is plug this into steam somehow because of the exclusivity bs. At least steam has pretty much all the experiences. I should be able to buy a pico, htc, psvr2 or whatever and be able to play among us VR lol on the actual platform not on a pc or on a quest. That was just an example same goes for all of it. Honestly can’t wait for valve to release their all in one headset, it’s time someone took a shit on Meta. HTC thank you, first it dropped to $1199 and now $999, Meta actually realized they over priced when they saw what y’all brought for $1100 So who’s going to buy the $600 quest 3? I am lol this is all about VR for me. All right the rants over and… awesome vid I loved it.
Wait….ur reasoning for a up and coming headset being bad is “company made mid headsets before(except 1)? eh ok. I can only hope I guess, and aye maybe it’ll have a good mic.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the display on the original Vive pro being an OLED screen looks better than, the colors and blacks on the index are garbage, the controllers microphone and speakers are the only thing that is better. I have a vive pro with index controllers and a wireless adapter and there's no way I would downgrade to those LCD panels.
Ok, specs wise people keep comparing the vive xr elit to the quest pro when, in reality it more matches up with the piko 4, which is half the pice. So, in conclusion... stinky pooo
The funny thing about vive VR headsets having absolutely shit microphones is the fact that their phones from like 2012 had genuinely way better microphones than the htc vive and so on
I hope it isn't garbage. I pre-ordered, but the mic seems to be better, there are only like 2 RU-vidrs that have it and their mics seem to be as good as the quest2.
i disagree think it's not trash at all i think it's gonna be awesome i'm all for it i'm excited about it but the only bad thing about it i don't like is the pricing it being overprice expensive that's about it that's just my opinion
It didn't upon release because the controllers weren't ready. It shipped with an Xbox controller and a little remote thing that nobody used and seems to have forgotten. They started including controllers later on.
Fancy seeing you here Tikka! I've never been able to fit my glasses into a VR headset and while I don't realy *need* glasses, they do make a difference that it's noticable in VR, so having a diopter to adjust that might make it worth it alone. Also, from what I udnerstand, pancake lenses have a larger sweet spot, so even if they have a smaller overall field of view, my hope is that it'll have a larger "clarity" field of view. I'll let you know when mine comes in.
im using a htc vive pro eye and face tracking and its amazing! i use index remotes with it. the index is cheap tho. All my friends have it and had to replace it multiple times. my remotes are falling apart after a little over a year.
Hmmmm. I agree with your sentiment about vive as a whole but it seems like the only thing you're going off of to say that the XR elite is bad is that their past headsets are bad. I agree they've been terrible in the vr space but that doesn't necessarily mean their next headset is going to be bad
It's understandable that if a company had many previous failures to deliver actual improvements and user needs that people will have doubts. The same goes for Pimax. However judging the headset right away without waiting for reviews is defenitely not something that should be done. Sceptism is valid there is no doubt but it could turn out very well. After all it's a different technology, new technology and changed format of the headset. It has potential. Also if you're worried about pre-order, Ibelive that by law you have a 14-day return period to return the headset without specifying the reason - even if it was pre-order as most stores count 14 days from the day the item arrived to you. Basically if you get it and it doesn't live up to your expectations just return it. Yes it's a time wasted but some headsets can fit one group of people while they don't work well for others. Sometimes the only way to know if the headset is worth it is buying it yourself and trying out.
Up until I got my quest 2 and HTC XR Elite (3/25 & 3/26 respectively), I've been using the OG Quest. I've never understood the wand hate. Still my fav. Sturdy AF and long enough to actually hold. Quest 2 controllers are for 10 year olds. XR Elite controllers are like 2 inches longer so not quite wands but better.
The Focus 3 got its own in house developed set of Eye and Face trackers months ago in October. Yeah, the 7nthensun model never came out for VP2. This video isn't very helpful, as someone who's actually been paying attention to the major headsets from CES and actually owns a Focus 3. Maybe point out which one of those headset you think will be good for your uses, or what you think others will like? Perhaps give an endorsement of currently available hardware if you don't think they're up to snuff. Here's my advice: If all you want is a not Facebook standalone Headset that can do PCVR, the XR Elite will be very good in terms of stability, controller tracking quality and feel with the F3 controllers, and wireless streaming quality with Wifi 6E at probably up to 3k x 3k 200mbps if you have an RTX 4000 GPU with the dual encoders, but will be undercut in every way except the fit by Quest 3. Unless, you want to use XR's yet to be released eye and face tracking, which Quest 3 is pretty much confirmed to not have. If you want to use Index controller with fullbody tracking, I can say that the front end OS will most likely throw up a warning when the controllers are both turned off that's incredibly difficult to work around, unless you have hand tracking enabled in the HMD OS (but NOT in the PC streaming application, because that will interfere). Turning off the controllers with your HMD+controllers outside the playspace might work, depending on how borked your SteamVR VRSETTINGS file is. bdunderscore's version of Space Calibrator (the version with continuous tracking) works with the Focus 3 and VIVE/Tundra trackers, and it will most likely work with the XR Elite. You'll be able to physically tie a tracker the little headstrap shown during the CES demos, should that come with the release version. Or, use the wrist straps and belt clip that can be purchased on Tundra's website.
I just want a headset for ~$500 with aspheric lenses, the resolution of the Reverb G2, with Index-level Controllers and Speakers. I'd be willing to pay more if they added eye tracking, foveated rendering, and wireless. Is that reasonable? Probably not, but they're not going to get a lot of people to buy $1,000 headsets in the first place, so I don't know why they're still trying to appeal to that market over everything else, and the "me too" headsets don't do anything Quest or Reverb G2 don't do better for their price range.
HTC is on the right track for some very key reasons: 1. Not everyone wants to wear something to mess up their hair. 2. Great Passthrough is key to inspiring new Devs to work on useful things for AR. 3. Many people do not want their face data tracked nor stored, so HTC's modular approach to this is also the correct one.
Gonna be honest im just waiting for the leaps in tech leading to vr headsets that are as compact as the xr elite, accurate finger tracking of the index (chargeable) and stronger then the quest to play pcvr on hust the headset, i know thats far down the way but man im looking forward to it (otherwise i prefer wired)
