Wow what a bunch of rude imbeciles to someone who has gone out of his way to teach something valuable! As a complete beginner I find your in depth tutorials EXTREMELY helpful so THANK YOU! To the twats complaining about how long it takes for him to get to the point: welcome to RU-vid, I'll be your tour guide - drag the dot and fast forward.

I feel sorry for as you went just for the delay "trick" and not for the mentality, psychology, logic and reasoning behind it. Everything he said before digging into the "trick", was quite valuable. I agree it should've been covered in a short and sweet manner, so that people don't get bored, but give it a chance! :)

Subtlety is the key in most instances and you did it well. That little touch of reverb did indeed suite the nature of the track. I like your approach.

I've been doing sound with an analogue board for a number of years at a church . I've been guessing at how to get reverb to sound good and failing. They recently purchased a digital mixer and it has Reverb and Delay built in. Along with the mixer came a whole lot of clueless. RU-vid has helped me tremendously. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video on Delay. I've downloaded the sheet and will be looking at it shortly. Thank you so very much.

This is one of the best vocal tutorials I have seen on RU-vid. This might be an old trick, but so what? New mixers don't know old tricks now do they? That's the point of these kind of videos, to help those that do not know the old tricks yet. Keep up the great work.

One good way to find the correct timing on the TRACK is to grab a calculator and Type: 60 Divided by BPM of the track and that gives you 1/4 ( Quarter Note ) of 4/4 ( Whole Note ) . so thats the decimal traduced on Milliseconds.

This à great tutorial, thank you muchly. I wanted to compliment your comment about the slap back sounding close to reverb. The theory is that humans generally can't differentiate a slap back faster than 50ms, hence delays start from roughly 50ms onwards and reverb tend to be faster than that. It's the main differentiating point between the two. Obviously this is a rule of thumb and I'm sure they cross overs. Thanks again for this!

I see people complaining about the long intro, and I see where you're coming from, but I ended up having more info from like one sentence during the intro than the whole technical part. Technicalities develop and change and even get fucked with and misinterpreted, but key concepts are the core of this whole thing.

A very nice example of well used technique, in context - well explained, unless you can't focus for more than 10 seconds. In which case mixing is definitely not the best career choice. Thanks. Of course as an old guy I can say: Before all this we just used to record vocals in the bathroom. Instant tile slapback! :D

Thanks for the video! I just think it would have been a fairer comparison to hear the first reverb in parallel rather than used in line on the vocal track and using a dry/wet control which will of course push the vocal back by prioritizing the reverb in the mix. If the reverb was in Parallel the vocal would have been way less affected. I'm not saying that doesn't mean a stereo slap back is not a better choice... just that I never use reverb in line like that. Cheers!
