I saw Jay and the Americans years ago. They performed at the skating rink in Warren, Ohio. I enjoyed the music so much. Thank you Jay for sharing your music and your wonderful voice. I will never forget that.

I too caught his range but moreso the control in his breathing at any age was just incredible. Born in 1959 This and music from the 50s were nothing new to me. So I love all kinds of music. @Mark Ehrlich I knew there where two Jay's who sang lead in the band John Traynor and David Blatt, did not know much on the original Jay thanks for the info.

JayTraynor(John) was the first Jay .He sang She Cried.

@Mark Ehrlich Popular in New York but not big nationally it's a great tune.I told him that I loved This Is It a great Brill Building tune and said I felt he went solo because it didn't become a hit.Jay Black had an injunction against Traynor singing in the Tri-State area until Black lost the rights to the group name.Then Traynor started singing with The Tokens doing She Cried.He struck me as being a nice guy.

@Mark Ehrlich Cool that you went to those Fox shows-I was a little too young for Murray The K shows but I do have a few airchecks.Yep I know Jay was on those Mystics tunes Sad that he passed my friend Kurt took his place.I actually had some Slim airchecks that had songs it took years to figure out what they were.I got the tapes from John Greco another good guy.I'm familiar with Downstairs Records but only in the 70's I would go there occasionally.I was a member of UGHA for years sadly Ronnie I passed.Of all the great jocks I think Jocko was the coolest.It was pretty great growing up on N.Y.radio.In the 70's I'd occasionally go to Cape Records my friend Steve worked there and oh geez I forget the name I think Stein Brothers in Brighton Beach.Also some of the oldies stores in the Village.BTW love The Timetones record and yes I'm familiar with the Earth Angels.

Just found your channel and subscribed….I learned accordion as a kid, forgotten much of it, but can still read music and picked up a piano keyboard to teach myself…thanks for sharing the keyboard and his C5 range, I just relearned octaves! Also you might look into a duet by Roy Orbison and K.D. Lang…”Crying.” Will be watching more of your videos, thanks for sharing your musical knowledge with those of us who also love music…as a 70’s hard rocker, I would also recommend you looking into a guy who died too early just a month after I saw his concert….Tommy Bolin….fantastic guitar…anything off his “Teaser” album would be appreciated or even the album with “Post Toastie.”

I saw Jay and The Americans, in Philadelphia, in 1972. They and Tommy James and the Shondells opened for Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. What a great concert! Fabulous! ❤
