Please can you expand on this subject? Ive not heard of women losing their voice through either phase & not lost my voice through peri or menopause ~ I’m way past both phases and not taken HRT but treated myself for other issues Im genuinely interested in the subject and had lots of other very unpleasant symptoms of meno but not voice loss.

It's not voice loss that occurs - but a loss of vocal range, a lowering of pitch, and a general loss of vocal "flexibility" - the ability to modulate and control the voice. Think of it as the same way the bladder and vaginal walls act when they lose estrogen - they get stiff, dry, itchy, and/or can be a little reactive (and lose integrity when stressed).

Hi from South Africa Dr Ginger. I find your channel very informative and different. I'm 70/post menopausal. The only HRT ever prescribed was Angelique which contains both estrogen and progesterone. Turns out I come out in hives all over the moment I go on that treatment. None of the other HRT's available here to my knowledge contain both. So I went through the hell of menopause without help. The hot flashes were non stop. I still get them, but not as severely anymore. I had chronic asthma since I was 30, but finally after 40 years I managed to get myself off the oral prednisone. Currently I take a minimum - 1 x puff of Symbicord inhaler at night. I am a trained actress, but chose a career as a singer/songwriter. In my late 20's I started struggling with severe post nasal drip. When I blow my nose, nothing really comes out the front, but my vocal cords are covered in it - constricted is a better explanation. Literally like a boa constrictor! It makes me absolutely miserable because the voice is there, yet I can do nothing. It ruined my career. From frustration clearing my throat - which I know I should never do - I developed nodules on the cords. I had therapy and managed to clear the nodules for a while, but they always come back because of the vocal distress. I have informed myself and long ago cut all dairy, gluten, sugars, etc out of my diet. I take natural Vit C with NAC plus Omega and Beta Carotene awa all the B's and even adaptogens like Rodiola Rosea and Ashwagandha to support the adrenals. I hydrate, steam, gargle, use nasal rinses - nothing helps. I am truly at my wits end. Now in my later years I want to start a creative online channel, but the idea of constantly struggling with my cords makes what ought to be joyful self expression, truly a nightmare. Is there any reason why the phleghm goes and sits directly on my cords? I've had 2 ops due to a deviated septum to the right, but it just got worse afterward. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Can you perhaps do a video just on this issue because many performers struggle with vocal cord distress due to phlegm.. Mine is just a life long struggle and worst case scenario. Thanks so much.

Hi Amanda, I am so sorry for your struggles. What I can suggest is that you schedule a free consult at www.garnerpelvichealth.com - I do international consults but you'll have to request a free domestic consult first. Then our staff will be notified - please add a note that you are in South Africa and need an international consult - and they can switch it over for you. I hope this will help!
