Tiger is an American Icon like Ali or Jordan and for that reason they will always be relevant. And Tiger’s Public Redemption is something that makes us all feel that our deepest dreams can still come true if we dare to just believe...

I very much agree with your statement. :-)

It was phenomenal. Most people I talked to cried! Grown men crying! There is something about great athletes that just ooze electricity that we all feel and react to. We feel their struggles and emotions and their victories. This was epic! The greatest storied comeback in sports history! He makes us believe that no matter how low we fall, we can believe in ourselves, work hard, and return to our very best selves. Thank you Tiger Woods for being a flawed human being and an extraordinary athlete!

What does that mean our moment?

It was our moment to give back to this man. We as a society did a shitty thing to him. Yes he is a flawed man and made mistakes in his personal life but the toll we inflicted on him with our media and cultures lust for gossip and scandal is inexcusable. I think that’s what is making is comeback so special. Deep down we know this and we are getting to let ourselves off the hook

We get emotional about what happened Sunday because it is the manifestation of why we watch sports at all. We watch sports because we are inspired by great performances. It allows us to feel WE are capable of great things. If he can do it, I can do it. That feeling we experience gives us hope to fight another day in the world and believe we can succeed. We were riveted by Tiger's performances years ago because of the shear domination he demonstrated. It made us believe we could be and do that. What happened Sunday makes me believe I can get back up, dust myself off, and do it again.

The more analysis I hear behind what Mr. Woods did this weekend, the more impressed I am with his victory . Tears are coming to my eyes right now, just thinking about it.

It's called Catharsis. Homer's Odyssey. Tiger finds his way back home. The Greeks invented it about 1500 years ago. We just live vicariously through Tiger's hero journey.

@makersmike2959
@makersmike2959 5 лет назад
@@raymonddionne5088 I meant greatest comeback by a single person, when you combine how it was a comeback in life and sports for him. But for sports itself and a team, I may have to agree the Boston comeback might be the best. As a Mariners fan ( I know, it's rough) I hate the Yankee's and was cheering on Boston the whole way. It was an amazing feat. One for the ages.

Tiger's comeback is almost spiritual: The Prodigal Tiger really; he went away from us, wasted everything he had been blessed with to only find, like Superman, one last crystal from which to build his whole life upon again. And he did it. I still can't believe it.

Everyone I knew was never happy to see tiger fall from grace. Everyone was disappointed in a way to see a legend fall. But now, as we’ve gone through the journey with him, we finally get a comeback just as legendary as the man. And people are suckers for a good comeback story. Wouldn’t be surprised if he got a movie from this

I think it's the fact that he won 14 majors in the span of 11 years and everyone thought he would of doubled Jack's record. Yet it all stalled and it's his first major in 11 years and the fact that he can come back and get it done again

I agree!! Hearing stephen A. Smith and max kellerman or shannon sharpe etc. try to talk golf is kinda nails on the chalkboard. You can tell within 1 minute someone who truly knows and loves golf, vs someone who is talking golf because they have too.

Redemption. Been through turmoil and made many, many mistakes. The second time around feels better than the 1st because you never think it will end at the begining. The you go through the turmoil phase, which can be hell!!! And finally after years of living right and making good decisions, you get the glory back. And you appreciate it much , much more. God Bless!!

This is a moment that means so much to me because of the adversity Tiger has struggled through. His life and body had utterly failed him. His mistakes magnified on such a level, lesser men would disappear, never to be seen again. His struggles have matured him and made him a better man, and to reach the top again, is truly awe inspiring.

Very well said Rich, I like what you said about explaining to your kids about Tiger and how he’s had his troubles and how he has come back because that’s what really matters if you ask me. It’s not how low you go it’s how far you can come back up and change the bad ways that you had. I think Tiger exemplifies what it means to be a man because of how low he went getting arrested, his wife breaking the window with the golf club, the cheating, all that stuff, and to go from that to putting another green jacket on shows the kind of man that he really is. All the haters can just suck it because I’m sure they’ve had troubles in their life and wanted someone to give them a second chance so they shouldn’t say tiger can’t have a second chance. I’ve been watching the man play golf since he won those three juniors and three amateur titles in a row and that first Masters title in 97 when he hugged his dad and everything in between to the point where he hugged his son the other day. So well done Rich, you did it the right way and I appreciate it. Jerry

The difference between tiger then and now is now he gets it. He use to be standoffish with the patrons but tis one you saw him inbrace it. The facts of his life made him like us and now the love we have for him is given back to us. I believe he gets Jack's record or at minimum ties it. For those people that don't think tiger's a good role model are brain dead. A meteoric rise total dominance then the injuries and the fall from grace the struggle to wright the ship the determination drive and courage to persivier. Now on the greatest stage in all of sports the redemption.

In any discussion of a GOAT, you have to look at how that person changed the game for the future. What Tiger has done for golf can be compared favorably to the effect Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus had on the modern game. Granted, there are others that contributed, but in my mind these three have set the stage and the course for golf for years to come.

I always thought tiger woods would come back and win the a major, the PGA players last year said he would again. They said he was hitting awesome shots. Tiger woods has the fire inside to want win not everyone has the competitive fire. Tiger woods wants to beat Jack Nicklaus record of 18 majors. You can see it in his eyes.
@brianlehr78
@brianlehr78 5 лет назад
Every one else did the same... his point that tiger had to play 36 holes in 24 hours is silly...he got to get right back into playing instead of waiting till the afternoon to tee off.. mentally that is an advantage.. less time to think about what could possibly happen. It is good for golf.. he does move the needle!

The 36 holes in 24 hours part is less impressive considering that a couple weeks prior in match play he played a similar amount in the same day. That said, it IS impressive that he CAN do that as a matter of normalcy considering his back history. 36 holes in a day is just what a pro is expected to be able to do. He had to get to that point with his back.

Why? Because every expert under the sun said he couldn't do to this new generation what he did to his contemporaries. He found a way to win, with a clutch of supreme shots. With a fused back at that. Imagine MJ coming back to beat Durant or LBJ. Sacrilege for some but ...

What history did Tiger make? I am two months younger than Tiger and I have followed his career throughout my life. This phrase making history is the most overused phrase in sports. If someone does something that has happened before that's called Tying History. If you do something that has NEVER been done before that's called Making History. That being said it's great to see Tiger win another major again
