In 2010, HDNet launched The Voice Versus series in which host Michael Schiavello interviewed various combat sports personalities. The show was a one-hour sit down interview show with some of the biggest names in sports.
Andre had a disability, he had Acromegaly. think its safe to say most people Revere Andre The Giant with Great Admiration, don't even have to be a fan of wrestling
I’m more of a Flair fan and grew up in the heart of NWA territory. But, being a kid of the 80s, Hogan’s unparalleled popularity and impact on pro wrestling has never been topped by anyone.
I'm a fan to hogan to an extent but there's one thing he could never do and that's pass the torch and leave. In his mind he was never ready to leave the business, even as a heel he could of done way better in the putting over aspect. On a personal level though? He's probably one of the worst people in wrestling, besides those who murdered and sexually assaulted people.
As a kid, I loved pro wrestling. I still have a bit of a fascination. But, the punishment. The Pros are fucking hard core. Even though Macho Man and Terry didn't get along, Terry has still honored Macho Man. 🙏
Hogan hella protective of Andre. Even if some tales are potentially true, Hogan is going to wash it for him. Helluva friend Hulk is for Andre and his legacy.
@@RudeOfTheTurks Not sure what "tough" had to do with stating the truth, but you're right, sometimes is tough to be honest. Especially these days when everyone is so blissfully ignorant with their false idol worship.
According to Taker, Hogan went around backstage saying that Taker had injured him. Taker was terrified, thinking that he'd put out the top star in his first year with the company. But then he saw the replay and that Hogan wasn't anywhere near hitting the mat with the piledriver, so Taker approached him to ask why he was claiming an injury. Taker then said that Hogan was like "oh, well then it must have been whiplash from the move" or something like that. Taker dismissed Hogan as a liar from that point forward.
When I saw Hogan AWA he was at least 6/7 and 330 and after WCW 6/3 so when they say Hogan wasn't 6/7 I can say he was he walked right by me my friend was 7 Foot ball player and he wasn't that much shorter then my friend and there's a pic with Hogan & Andrea and the giant was 7/2
I did too and I’ve heard him speak very highly of Ric Flair before, calling him “his champion”. But, I was confused by the comment Hogan made about Randy Savage. He said Savage was the best wrestler he ever worked with but then turned around and said that Flair was the best wrestler ever. So…who’s the BEST, Hulkster? My money is on Flair.
@@scottmoore1614 If he isnt just blowing smoke, I would take a guess he means that Randy was his favorite person to work with and the Ric Flair is best all around pro wrestler, as in the personality, work, and mic skills.
@@scottmoore1614 I remember when he said Kamala was the best person he worked with. He said that Kamala was so easy and took care of his body in the ring. Never felt a thing.
It made Andre way more famous than he already was. That wrestlemania will be talked about forever and ever and ever. At the time I hated Hulk Hogan I desperately wanted him to lose at the time. But Andre was at a point to where his time in the ring was numbered and Hogan was in his prime and spearheaded the popularity of professional wrestler.
What I see is Andre couldn’t have had much of a career at anything with his size, and wrestling gave him a life as a hero to many kids especially us gen Xers, so to him it was his world I can see how he would protect it , in his mind
When Hogan came out at the Bash, everyone in the room I was in immediately assumed he was turning heel UNTIL Heenan said, “who’s side is he on?” Remember, back then, all heel turns were so telegraphed when the baby face came down to help the good guys. Heenan’s comment made the turn truly shocking because we all dismissed the Hogan turn as soon as Heenan said that.
I didn’t watch that live, but I would’ve ASSUMED by Heenan saying that, that THAT choreographed the heel turn Were there rumblings of a heel turn prior to that? I forget
@@danski6694 There was a “third man” alleged to partake in this match for the nWO who was never named, but the company brilliantly teased a Luger heel turn. He was take out early in the match, so all bets were on an injured Luger return to “save” the baby face team, only to turn heel. Just recognize this - back then, every heel turn was so obvious. Go watch a few. The announcers oversell the heroic arrival only to be SHOCKED at the heel turn. What Heenan did made nobody flip and think Hogan was turning heel. Everybody watching thought Hogan was turning heel when he came out because they set up the baby face arrival, but everyone flipped back to Luger as soon as Heenan said, “whose side is he on.” Hogan referencing that in the interview is stupid. He was in the ring. He doesn’t know how people reacted in real time at home and he didn’t hear Heenan’s comment. This is Monday Morning Quarterbacking over a non-issue: zero people in the world had this heel turn ruined by Heenan in real time. It is fake news.
@@danski6694 I'm with you on this, too me this implied there was a doubt about him saving the day as a face. That's why this is always mentioned as a fudge up on Tony's part lol. Kinda spoiled it in the end if you had caught it and it influenced you from that point but still a great heel debut and the start of a great heel run for both Hogan and the new world order. personal feelings and judgements aside Hogan was arguably the best heel AND face in the entire history of the industry. Like him or not Hogan is the face of wrestling and we all should respect him for that.
Lol right?! Meanwhile less than a WEEK he was working and moving nice and fluid. And 2 months later. And 3 months later. And 4 months later (mania 8). Soon as he got asked, his brain started dancing lol.
Who cares what he was let's see any one of you guy's do what Hulk did and slam a guy that big takes a big powerful man to do that. But ya 500 pounds for sure.
One thing I always found interesting is how wrestlers always bounce around from promotion to promotion so easily and then can so easily just come back to the promotion that fired and got rid of them. How many people have the WWF/WWE fired or let go only to bring them back as if it never happened.
Money. And I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, quite the opposite actually. These guys are businessmen, in a business. It's all about providing a living for themselves and their families. They know that sometimes pride has to take a backseat to work.
Hogan Alone Saved Wrestling and Wrestling Companies Twice...Once as a Babyface Hulk Hogan and The Other as Heel Hollywood Hogan...Hulkamania Was Simply Larger Than Life and Hollywood Hogan & NWO Was a Swagathon
Hulk Hogan is known to Exaggerate in his interviews, it looks like he toned it down a little bit with the exception of Andrea the giant being close to 700 lb
Big hulk Hogan fan a hulkamaniac but I heard from multiple sources that Hulk Hogan lied about Andre the giant's real weight so who really knows and undertaker said he never hurt Hogan
I saw Hulk in Bakersfield around 1986. We had seats right next to where the wrestlers entered the arena and walked down to the ring. So I got to stand as Hulk walked with about a foot or two of me. At that time I was shocked to see that he was, my estimate back then, about 6’-3”. He wasn’t much taller than I was - I was 6’-0”. I worked out and weighted about 225 and while he was thicker than I was, he wasn’t 100 pounds heavier. I estimated he weighed around 240.
Why are you lying? I also met Hogan around that same time, and he was EASILY 6ft 5" or bigger. Again - you are lying. It really is as simple as that too.
This is what is sad about HH and how the fans have turned on him Any negative story they run with and now have created their own stories Here, HH talks about the incident with UT and says it was nobodies fault but from years of abuse from the ring We know UT didn't hurt him but look at Dynamite Kid, you can take major bumps but if the time is right then a simple thing can ruin your life HH frequently took piledrivers and all other major bumps, 10+ years of that and a jolt can totally mess you up
Let's seperate first , Terry , the performer, from Hogan, the immortal super hero. Terry has been caught so many times LYING , it's stunning. I always loved the Hulk Hogan character and still do. But Terry is a self absorbed pathological liar
@@VirtuaFighterRPG- dude, you're insane. This whole - Hogan is a liar thing is what is pathological, it is what you haters are obsessed with. I watch shoot interviews all the time and wrestlers misremember or get things wrong all the time. You all hang off his every word and he gets a match from 88 mixed up and says 90 you dweebs obsess over it and run around the internet calling him a liar. Wrestlers mix stuff up all the time, heaven forbid that he doesn't remember every actual detail from 20-30-40+ years ago. He has clarified that he sent a tape to Metallica and yet the fans are posting on every interview that he "auditioned" for them - the only lies now are the ones the people calling him a liar make.
Hulk hogan was a great wrestler in my mind he's never a liar he telling the truth about taken care of himself as sweet loving person but after Rocky 3 he did great family films like suburban commando Mr nanny 3 ninjas high noon at mega mountain and a TV show for disney thuder in paradise
If andre taught hogan alot about passing the torch like he says. He definitely didnt listen. Hogan held onto that torch as long as he could. He would still have it if it was up to him and wasnt taken from him.
I never liked Hogan back in his peak but even though I wasn't a fan I have never seen any one man have that kind of effect over fans besides Elvis & Micheal Jackson when I seen him in AWA but in the WWF I have never heard that before and I have been to other leagues AWA, NWA and talking Ric Flair, Dusty Rodes Piper , Macho Vern , Nick but even rock crowds weren't like that so Hulkamania was running wild
That's a little disrespectful asking Hogan that question about the Undertaker because everybody knows that that's a disputed thing and Hogan might have overreacted a little bit but I don't think he just made it up I think he was in pain
He has become humble now. The only people who rag on his about being selfish and all that are jealous ex wrestlers doing shoot interviews in motels with 6 beers in them. Hulk made everyone more money. From the top to the mid, to the opening wrestlers down to the secretaries in the office. Lifted 2 of the largest wresting companies ever 10 yrs apart.
@@thedjqmobstl Good or bad, Hulk Hogan will still be remembered a century from now. However, a nobody clown like you, will be lost to time. No one will ever have known you even existed. Your life doesn't matter, his does.
Hogan was such a great heel I can't see him as a good guy. When I was a kid Hogan was a big star like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. He even had his own cartoon.
@@walterclark3198 not a better wrestler bigger star I can remember the date he won the belt my cousin birthday I thought it was real. Real as they didn't like each other now just to much. Really super punch after hbk stone cold nwo I stopped watching
@@walterclark3198 Hulk Hogan in the 1980s was literally one of the most famous people in America even to people who never watched wrestling. Hart and Michaels never transcended wrestling like Hogan did mainstream wise. Hulk was a cultural icon.
Exactly my brothers. I'm still a fan of the Immortal HULK HOGAN. He's the reason I call all Men BROTHER. Simply because I loved HULK HOGAN. I know now that he's just a man who has troubles, and said stuff that I'm sure he wished he didn't say it. Terry is a human being just like we all are. I still love you HULK HOGAN THE CHARACTER. I RESPECT THE MAN BEHIND THE HULKAMANIA. TERRY, MY NAME IS CHRIS. I worked for OVW. Mike Samples was the promoter. I know JERRY LAWLER. THEIR ALL GOOD PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. ON THE TV VIDEOSCOPE THEY MAKE IT VIOLENCE. AND, IT'S REAL BLOOD AND GUTS. THEY HAVE TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF EACH OTHER, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. JUST LIKE MOHAMMED ALI. HE BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIS OPPONENTS. BUT, IN REAL LIFE, HE WAS A GENTLEMAN.
I disagree with his assessment about Bobby Heenan saying "WHICH SIDE IS HE ON?!". I don't think anyone believed Hogan might have done the unthinkable until he actually did it a few minutes later. Plus, for years, Heenan was the evil leader of "the Heenan Family" who's sole purpose in life was to take the WWF championship from Hulk Hogan and destroy Hulkamania. He always played the role of the ultimate Hulk Hogan hater and would say the good guy act was bullshit. It made perfect sense for Heenan to say "WHICH SIDE IS HE ON?!" and then rub it in all our faces and say "I TOLD YA SO!!!" when Hogan turned heel.
No, it was a f*** up, and I think the Bobby Heenan is the greatest manager, and one of the greatest commentators of all time. But no, it would have put it over even better if EVEN Heenan would have been in shock
Andre the Giant Weighing almost 700 lbs at WM3 is about as true as the time when Hulk said that he wrestled Andre the Giant at WM3 and then Andre died just a few days later.... WM3-1987... Andre's death-1994. Oh what about the time when Hulk almost fucked Undertaker's career from THE VERY 1ST TIME they ever worked together at Tuesday Night in Texas when Taker tombstoned Hulk onto the chair that Fair ran down to the ring & won the belt that night off Hulk, then Taker said he walked past Gorilla & it was either Vince or someone else I forget who but they said to Taker "go check on Terri, you fucked his neck up, he's laying down on his back in Vince's office, he thinks his neck is broken And he's not doing good at all" So Taker goes to check on him feeling horrible like an absolute piece of shit & sure enough Hogan was laying down exaggerating saying he had no feeling in his legs etc. & Taker knew he was getting the belt that night so he invited his whole family out that night & he thought his 15 min of fame was LITERALLY JUST THAT, 15 min of happiness & true hope until Terri the master politician realizes a way to fuck the new rookie's gimick up & figured if he SOMEHOW had a "broken neck" then FOR SURE Vince would have to take the belt right off Taker & OF COURSE ONLY HULK KNEW AT THIS TIME he'd make a miraculous recovery since AT THAT TIME ONLY HE KNEW HE WAS FAKING until a lil while later when Taker watched the video of the tombstone he gave Hulk from that match and JUST THEN realized Hulk's head was more than a ft away from touching the chair lol
@@bdot187um I'm referring to the match with Bret Hart, that was SUPPOSED to happen at summerslam. According to Hart, Hogan Simply said "you're not in my league"
