Announced by Infiniti on December 15, 2015 the VR30DDTT engine was first made available in the Infiniti Q50 sedan, followed by the Infiniti Q60 coupé a year later. Both platforms come in a 300 and 400 hp (224 and 298 kW) version.
The baby GTR. All your points are valid. not sure why no one has commented on your video yet. The engine is not the problem; usually it is the transmission that has been discussed as the weak point for anything above moderate upgrades for more power and reliability.
The transmission that is usually paired with the vr30 is known as one of the best Nissan has ever produced. The weak point is the turbos. The transmission you may be thinking of was used in the 2014 and 2015 q50 when the vq37 was used.
Good video. I love my VR30 powered Q50. My car made 448whp and 530wtq on stock turbos with just a few bolt ons and the car is super fun to drive at this power level. I’ve got like 51k on the odometer now and haven’t had any issues. I just do all the maintenance items when they’re due And everything has been great. I don’t expect to have any issues in the future either. The vehicle itself (Q50) is solid too and the only complaint I really have is the antenna for the satellite radio sucks and loses reception if you get next to a tree lol.
Kid in my group is running 650HP rn no problems with the block so far. The piston and connecting rods aren’t forged from stock, but the crank is I believe

@@truone637 Id stick with 18’ plus years they smoothed out some issues. I just bought a 2018 Q50RS with 60k Miles. Always watch your oil levels and regular maintenance the car will take care of you
Definitely a under rated engine. Not the fastest but build it right could make a lot of power!! I have a Vq35hr Z it would be cool to make a 1000hp but I’m not trying to be the fastest lol. Would be nice to make 450hp I think it could handle it I think thats reasonable.
I own a 19 q50 luxe currently got a addw1 oil CC Full Fast intentions exhaust and 3 inch lower downpipes from boosted 6 im saving for the vrx70 turbos along with the ams injectors and tune overall just about 10,000$ along with a heat exchanger but ill be making COMFORTABLY 500whp and a true full tune of 700hp goodluck boys
reccommend a a2w interchiller kit once ur pushing past 500whp on these cars the heat soaking kills and get a new belt and pulley and thats all i can think of besides a walnut blasting to make sure u can daily drive a q above 400 hp

Not tryna brag or nothing but one night while at party i had to leave and i was being dumb and hit a curve at 100mph and it wasn’t a regular curve it was like dip and turn and some freaking how it gripped and power slid went in abt 95ish came out abt 85ish
Its sad im watching this video to learn more on the motor as i have a Bank2 misfire in my Q60 and will be doing the work to replace the intake Cam Gears along with resealing for better compression. Smh not a tech but i can follow steps
The engine is not the problem. The JACO transmission is too weak. Even though the transmission was beefed up slightly in the gears and torque converter. Adding another 100+ hp can lead to a drastic reduction of the overall life of the powertrain and reliability. Also the 7 speeds are not optimally ratio’d for faster launches. So people go to modify these cars and are disappointed on the mild upgrades tend to go too far in hopes of getting better times, not realising until too late that things begin to break. It should be only mildly modded and treated as a luxury GT, not a thoroughbred sports car. Unless, you have the money to beef up the other systems to keep up with your engine mods.
100% and we saw the huge improvement to performance with the 400z and a 9 speed auto which i sont know who it is sourced from. Imagien it witha. Zf transmission or dual clutch.
And MANY other ISSUES is right you had to correct yourself but you should have kept going cause there’s a lot to be said.. this the a first generation VR nothing like a VR38. It was made 8 years later, Nissan will drop a way better VR in the future.
Great engine. Currently on my Q50 have AMS heat exchanger, JB4 and aftermarket exhaust, lowering springs, upgraded sway bar kit and Z1 diff brace. Soon I’ll be adding LDP and I’ll be good to go 👍🏽
@@2seep Don't leave out the fact that this is on race gas and you are speaking of just one car that was tested. Pump gas with stock pumps is good for only around 500whp safely on the vrx70 turbos. A coyote on boost is obviously going to be better
@@boostybotha355this is on e85, race gas is worst. E85 cools the cylinder temps( denser air), it has high octane rating, and it contains an extra oxygen molecule which is almost like another layer of forced induction. Race gas isn’t comparable to e85.
You need a proper tune to make it reliable so don’t use a jb4 you can go look up post from mark at sonic tuning on the q50/q60 group to see why you should not run them
YEEEESS~ Only! ECUTEK !!!! Sidenote: This is why the JB4 is terrible for these cars and especially non red sports. It works by manipulating the boost signal ONLY as a way to increase boost but does not change ANY of these tables. How it works is, it tricks the MAP sensor into thinking the car is making less boost than it really is so the ECU compensates and closes the wastegates more. It does not change a single boost table. If the car has a leak, it will cause a turbo failure much quicker. A good tuner spends months on these tables alone dialing them in. I have been tuning these cars for 3 years now and I am constantly changing these boost control tables for my basemaps to improve them.
This engine is junk already went thru 2 blown replaced under warranty. Honest opinion save your the headaches get a 3.7. If you want a fast car go with a different platform. THE VR30 IS NOT RELIABLE
