Where's the craziest place you've brewed coffee??? Did you grind on the spot, or bring pre-ground coffee?

Outback Australia, while hiking, near a place called Broken Hill. I don’t have a grinder yet, so it was pre ground.

I was thinking that a hand-grinder was the odd missing part from the Wacaco line-up. I got the 1zpresso JX Pro for my Picopresso and have ended up using it for my BBE and V60 too.

33 microns is actually very large for an "Espresso" grinder, even using the slow flow basket that comes with the Picopresso that's pretty large steps. I have had many many issues using these types of grinders (larger micron size) causing leaking from the pump handle after only a few weeks, blocking (too fine) or no pressure (too course) because the larger micron size does not really allow you to finely adjust the grind size. For example the Comandante C40 has 30 microns and they needed to develop the Redclix burrs (15 microns) because they understand that 30 microns is too big for Espresso, even the 1Zpresso K series grinders that i consider Pour over grinders have 28 microns. Ok they can get decent results with a slow flow basket in a manual Espresso machine like the Flair, but they are not perfect. A lot of people who have issues with blocking, leaking low pressure are using a grinder like the Timemore C2 - C3 and the microns are smaller than this grinder and i personally would not really regard those grinders as Espresso capable grinders either. You can get decent results with these grinders with an Espresso machine that uses a pressurised porta filter, but it gets more difficult when you use a slow flow basket and very difficult if you try to use a none pressurised precision basket and unless you are happy to waste quite a few beans every time you need to dial in or change the grind adjustment when you use different beans, then its going to be a lot of hard work. Ask anyone who has used the 1Zpresso JX or K series grinders (28 microns) with a slow flow basket and then ask anyone who has used the 1Zpresso JX-Pro (12.5 microns) or the J-Max (8.8 microns) Kinu (nearly step less) or even the Kingrinder series (between 16 - 18 microns) if they have an easier time dialing in with the 28 microns or the 12.5 microns and see what they say. So i am really surprised the Wacaco would go for something with such a large micron size. Because like i have pointed out, 33 microns wont allow for any decent fine adjustment even using the dosing ring for help with over tamping, dosing up or down (16 - 18g ) there is still issues. If i am wrong about the micron size, then i would be very happy for anyone to explain why they think that 33 microns is ok for Espresso grinding? and why the Picopresso unit is so easily prone to either low pressure (actually that's an easy one, the grind size is too course) on one side or blocking and leaking from the pump handle on the other side? ( that's the real issue here and that's also because the micron size is too big and the grind size can not be finely adjusted).
@mohdhakimraoufmohdkhanafia8182
I never get to find out how many microns adjustment is in timemore c2, care to enlighhten if you have the answer? I do manage to pump out good espresso from flair pro with timemore just that the grind was taking wayyyy too longgg , with kingrinder k6 it is much better timing but reall hard to dial in as too many clicks to find the really perfect adjustment, i'm thinking the smaller the microns the harder it is gonna be to find that perfect grind size
@may4friends
@may4friends 5 месяцев назад
I was also wondering, but maybe this grinder is designed especially for the Picopresso, so that you don't need such small burr adjustments. I see only great reviews on amazon, so I was curious about it. I am using the J-Max grinder with only 8.8 microns per click and it took me a some attempts to get the right grind size. Now I get great shots with thick crema
@darylfortney8081

They should have made it precisely fit the basket so you don’t need the funnel. Would be really cool if you could just screw the picopresso basket onto the grinder and skip both the funnel and grinder catch cup

How many clicks would you recommend for a dark roast coffee beans for espresso?
@BrodieVissers

I would try for around 13 clicks for 18grams in the basket to start and then adjust. Every coffee will be slightly different.

@BrodieVissers
@BrodieVissers Год назад
You can use for the espresso machine too. I don’t know for that specific machine, but try around 12 clicks and adjust. Also depends on coffee you’re using, the dose, the basket size, etc. you’ll have to taste and adjust

How many clicks would you recommend for the Wacaco Pipamoca?
@BrodieVissers
@BrodieVissers Год назад
I use around 18 - 20 clicks, depending on the coffee. If it keeps the water above the filter too much while twisting, consider a coarser grind.

@@BrodieVissers in storage for travelling of course. The way you slide it in and remove it looks like it has little to no friction to keep in place. Kyle rowsell also highlight this issue.
@BrodieVissers

@@laddaevolta oh yeah, there's nothing to keep it in place. I just put it in a small cloth bag with drawstring and everything is contained. I would do the same with any other hand grinder.
