I have the Picopresso and love it. I also have the 1ZPresso K-Plus. I’ve seen a few manual grinder reviews and none of them have made me regret buying the K-Plus.
Nice! I bought the Picopresso since I love the Nanopresso. I am having trouble getting the crema on it with the Pico. I am saving up for the grinder you have as I think my crappy Mr coffee grinder is the problem. My Nanopresso makes the best espresso for that grinder but it also could do much better with a better grinder.
Very clear and concise video, man. I’m digging it. Thanks for getting this together! It’s so rad that you create coffee content based on what your following is interested in. Cheers, my friend!
I've just hit my 1st year on my Cafelat Robot. I still love the brewer, preheating the portafilter and screen with the steam from my Stagg unlocked the kind of light roasts that made me fall in love with espresso. Really love the control and quick workflow with it.
Did you notice the rubber sliding during grinding. Mine slides up since I got it which is annoying since I have to stop to readjust it so it doesn’t block the handle
Ahh that rubber sleeve loosening on the 1zpresso drives me nuts! I’ve seen the same thing happen on so many other review models 😤 Cleaning and soaking the sleeve in a baking soda water solution helps regain that grip for a bit but it’s temporary. They really need to source a more durable material or change it altogether.
I was starting to want a picopresso for the office and travel...instead I got a gaggia classic to mod. I guess I need to get a pelican case for it at some point so I can still travel with it. The Decent Espressso Suitcase doesn't quite fit in overhead compartments for flights.
I got a Picopresso as a first espresso maker and I love it. The workflow is pretty tedious bit I've also been looking at the Gaggia Classic as an upgrade, how is it?
@@thatroykid I’ve only used it for two shots so far as it’s living in my office. Coming off of the Decent espresso machine I’m very pleasantly surprised at the gaggia. I got it used for $100 used with plans fo mod with full flow and pressure control. If it were my first semi-auto machine I’d be pleased. I’m mostly excited for its modding potential
@@MWSJoey I love modding things so thats whats making me consider the Gaggia. I really like the Decent's but they're so damn expensive, its just not in my budget right now.
I have a Breville Infuser machine and am looking for a very good espresso grinder. Hoping for something under $950 CAD that gives good clarity, more texture, and brings out the beans complex notes. I only would use it for espresso and often only grind 19g to 38g/day. Any recommendations for a solid hand grinder or electric grinder that fits this purpose, Kyle?
Oh yeah They seem to love suing everyone that joins the competition haha Btw I own a C40 and really like it. Just not as much as I love my Kplus. A superior grinder on every aspect.
The wacaco exagrind was on my list of hand grinders including the 1zpresso, but in the end, i decided to splurge and go for the C40 Mk4, which immediately, i noticed the upgrade in flavour compared to the Timemore C3, that i was using before. totally enjoying Comandante C40 results and no regret!
Hi.Thanks for the great video. Would you recommend Wacaco exagrind for somebody who has a dedica 685? I'm not a very picky espresso drinker. I've recently bought a naked portafilter for my machine . So I'm gonna use my 685 with its standatd pressurized basket or with my new naked portafilter.
Why nobody try the Timemore C3 Pro? is even cheaper than this one and seems to work with espresso... haha maybe timemore is being underrated in pourpose 😅🤣
Flair 58 v2.0 x halfstep modded comandante c 40 mk3 inside, picopresso x Hept Q2 outside :D thats what i got at least id like to upgrde my grinder to one in the 1zpresso heptagonal 48mm range though. Update: got a jx-pro secondhand, and enjoy it even more than my comandante 😍
I have a tricked out early model slayer, classic that I really love. But it isn’t super portable, so the Picopresso and nanopresso is starting to look appealing.
I've been trying to find the wording but it'd be helpful for the gear buyers syndrome if we can get a numerical value in quality... like these are similar and the differences are like 20 percent better. It's super subjective but yeah. These vids are great to watch but often I feel like my gear isn't good enough when I'm reality the differences are inches on a mile
Great comparison! I agree with you about the superior build with the 1zpresso grinders . My K-pro is my travel grinder of choice, and together with an aeropress + prismo it makes travel ”espresso” a real treat!
Awesome vid as usual. It's great to see Wacaco making new stuff. Where would the 1Zpresso Q2 Heptagonal fit between these grinders ? At a 100$, Is it better than the Wacaco / Normcore and would it still be way worth it to jump to the JX instead ? Thanks !
I got a 1zpresso JX Pro for my Picopresso (this didn't exist at the time or I probably would have gotten it). It ended up being so good that I use it for my BBE and V60 too.
Awesome video, been using mine for the past month and have enjoyed it. How do you take this apart to clean the exagrind? I assume fine grinds will build up over time between the burrs and grind adjustment
LOL! OMG! You must have read my mind - been looking for exactly this the last few weeks! Have any thoughts on the 48mm contenders like the Kingrinder K2/3 (the Arco is too big..)?
you said espresso brewer? We have a Decent. We haven't traveled in a long time, doubt we'd try to brew or press if and when we do travel. & we use Flair58 too but less often than Decent. Grinders we use for espresso, mostly Option-O Lagom P64, sometimes a Niche.
There's so many new grinders coming onto the market and I have the exact same evaluation procedure for all of them. I load a video from a trusted reviewer (in this case Kyle) and then open a new tab and google the product to find the product page and look for grind adjustment. If that number is above 15 - 20µ I immediately decide I'm not interested and then go back to the video and watch it anyways simply because I enjoy their content. Thanks for the review! Hope to see more in the future.
I’ve had the JX for over a year now. Got it based of your opinion from watching your vids. I love love love it. Thank you so much for your honest advice.
Went with a 1ZPresso K-Max and it was great! Brought it everyday if I needed a grinder in a pinch through barista training, and used it for my routine for my finals. They're so versatile and reliable that they're just great grinders even if you have a great electric grinder as your main. I find it better than even the C40 IF you're using it for other brew methods/you're using it for work because I find it way easier to calibrate for multiple brew methods. Though I still prefer the C40 if you're purely making espresso.
@@KyleRowsell yeah it's been a blast! Getting it also meant I can stop bothering my brother to lend me his C40 when I go to class/need a secondary grinder. Love your videos, man. Definitely adds to my understanding and curiosity about coffee even as I pursue a career in the industry! Much love from The Philippines!
Kyle! I'm torn and I'd love your input, if you'd be buying and choosing - Comandante C40 or....? Even though I'd be mainly using it for travel with picopresso, I want it to be versatile for espresso, v60s, flair and so on. Kinda like buy once and forget it for all methods. What you'd be buying?
The Kingrinder K4 costs the same (even less in aliexpress sales) and offers many advantages: 48mm titanium coated burrs, external grind level adjustment similar to 1Zpresso higher end J-Max and K-Plus, 16 micron steps, robust enough to officially support the use of electrical screwdrivers. I love Wacaco (the Picopresso is amazing in so many ways), but the Exagrind is nowhere near the K4, at least in terms of features and value.
@@Yirgamalabar they have a 48mm burr too. Unless Amazon is incorrect. It looks very similar to the jx style burr from photos I’ve seen. Excited to test it.
Started out with a Helor 101 and a 9Barista. That combination produced some good shots and was an excellent learning experience. I've since upgraded to a Breville Barista Pro and have replaced my daily Aeropress with an Americano made on the Pro. The lattes that I've made recently far outshine what I've had in cafes. Now to work on latte art.
I haven't used it since I got the Barista Pro. The 9Barista makes some excellent drinks but I really like having a build-in grinder and all the other conveniences of a "normal" espresso machine. I haven't tried a picopresso.
Nice sound design on that intro 👌😉 Production value is 💯🔥 I’ve had the Lido E for about 6 years now, back when it was Commandante, kinu and Orphan espresso. Not I have the Saint Anthony Industries Millwright grinder. It’s awesome, but I would definitely recommend normcore, or exa to a new coffee person.
Great video as always! A cupping probably isn’t the best way to compare two grinders because of how forgiving cupping is to grind size. Espresso or filter is better (though understandably hard to be consistent between brews).
First, thank you! Second, a cupping is the gold standard to remove any additional variables. Done properly it will be a magnifying glass to astringency, acidity etc
Really enjoy your video Kyle. Just bought a little bambino espresso machine. On a budget (senior stuffs) i think I'm going to wait the little extra and buy that JX grinder. It seems to stand the test of all reviews....and this will be a very educational experience going forward. Thank you!!
