Tom Payne did a phenomenal job at playing Jesus. He must’ve read the comics and did his research because his portrayal of the character is amazing. With how much he got into the role, and how well he did it, he really must’ve been so disappointed that they didn’t do more with the character. Jesus had so much potential.
Tom Payne himself is the reason he got killed off. He went to the showrunners and said he felt his character wasnt getting enough screentime.. He did like playing the role indeed
You can tell how well Tom Payne studied the source material. He's not playing Jesus: he IS Jesus. Props to the casting department for finding and ultimately casting him
But considering you said he was perfect for the role u read the comics but I honestly don’t think he was a good choice. In the comics he was a badass built dude like Abraham and in this he is skinny and doesn’t look intimidating but in the comics he looks more intimidating than Abraham and was
@@lukeo95 agree bro.. in the comics.. he was able to immobilize both michonne and abraham.. even holding abe as hostage.. He and Negan had a badass fight where he was able to get an upperhand in the fight..
@@GoodVibesOnly317 I know it's 5 months later.. but.. he was supposed to have a bigger role in the war especially. They didn't go that route and because he was really becoming more of a background character (as opposed to how he was used in the comics) it makes sense that Payne felt he was being under utilised. He had a badass ending but that was ultimately the most he would do. I THINK it was the physicality that wasn't being done right. Jesus in the comics is far more of a bad ass and not just an "I can sneak around really well in the dark" kinda guy. I'd have to rewatch it but he felt more like a go-between for the hilltop and alexandria. In the comics he had far more to do. Again, if i'm remembering right.
Oh shit I didn't even notice that! wow I'm completely obvious idot lol I was just pissed off like fuck! they finally found a GREAT haul that the badly NEEDED and then get tricked and lose it when they could have killed him and prevented it lol but awe what a sweet thief he is! and he did say sorry lolol
my man arriving back to earth in the most human way possible mad respect, i havent watched show but what if that was jesus and he actually was stealing for some future strangers that are more desperate for rations thatll save theyre life that be some 500 IQ Jesus plays
The moment this guy appeared, I knew he was not an extra that would die that same episode; his appearance (physical and clothing) was way too developed for him just to be some random guy. (It was like watching the protagonist of an anime standing out in the middle of a crowd)
I love how Jesus made a grand entrance like a bad-ass. He wasn't like "Please take me into your camp sir!" he fucking took their shit and had an epic fight with Daryl, saved Daryl's life and did it with the utmost swagger. Jesus actually out-smarted them! Who does that!?! My favorite character yet.
You can say that about every character, however it is very important they do kill of people you wouldn't expect. Take GoT for example, killing of main characters just makes everything more real and feels like anything could happen and characters in dangerous situations could actually be in danger. None of that plot armor crap.
taserrr true, but unexpected doesn’t make it good. Shocking Character deaths when done right are good... but Carl for example was just dumb when Ricks just gonna die anyway the next season
@@Ryan-rb4xj Yes they do. They are the head writers during the time they are showrunner, meaning they have the most influence on the entire story as well as the final say on every piece of writing/dialogue in the show.
I'm trying to find out if anyone else noticed when Rick and Daryl met 'Jesus' outside of the gas station, just after he said, "but my friends used to call me Jesus" the scene changed to behind Paul/Jesus (at about 2:32) and, with his arms outspread and his feet together, he did look like Jesus on the cross... I thought that was a neat shot!
I haven't watched this current season yet... down point to uploading footage lol. RIP Jesus see you when you die. Has this season been good so far? Iv'e kinda gone off TWD for now.
I have to admit I was leery of the show version of Jesus after the casting but I was very satisfied with Tom Payne's portrayal of him in tonight's episode.
They missed an AMAZING scene... Rick walking up to Father Gabriel. Rick: "Father I found Jesus." Gabriel: What? Rick: "Here's Jesus." *Brings in Jesus*
I didn't notice the first time I watched, but he(Jesus) threw Rick and Daryls bag out the window as he drove off. I think that's another sign he's not a bad guy. Prolly figured they needed whatever was in it, and wanted to avoid a Daryl medicine swiping incident in season 3 or 4 or whenever that was
In the comics yes, he is not revealed to be gay in the show yet. We already have Eric and Aaron so they could easily avoid doing a gay Jesus character. That was just a cheap provocation in the comics for easily triggered people, it did not serve the story or the character in any way so no reason to include it in the show.
Kirkman is great, he did it for asome reason, but I do not see the homosexuality of Jesus in the comics to serve anything other for the story than to appear liberal or edgy. I do not mind, really, Idc, I like Jesus he is a great character, but I do not see why would they include that part of his character in the show too when they already have a gay couple. I do not mind them either, I am not a homophobe.
As far as i know he is still alive in the comics but im not sure. Anyway that doesnt mean he will survive in the TV Series....i mean in the Comics Andrea is also still alive.
They finally introduce Mr. PAUL (JESUS) MONROE the biggest books badass…And they changing is great introduction…But it’s till Jesus: 1. Jesus causes a distraction and steals Rick/Daryl truck. 2. Rick and Daryl chase after the truck and catch up to him. They need their weaponry to get a hold of the situation and tie him up. 3. Oh wait, Jesus is on top of their truck. Those knots Rick tied are No problem to Jesus. 4. Rick manages to throw Jesus off the truck and Daryl chases after him. 5. Jesus saves Daryl from a walker. 6. They take Jesus to Alexandria 7. He invades their room “We need to talk” Welcome Jesus
+Alegreta122 Rick didn't listen when Shane went on his knot-tying tangents. Jesus = Glenns speed, Hershels wisdom, Ricks deadliness, Daryls swagger, and Beths sexiness.
He is way too short and scrawny, he's too much of a pretty boy. Jesus in the comics is much bigger and more intimidating. Jesus in the comics not only acts like a badass he looks like a badass, he looks like a guy you don't wanna fuck with. Jesus on the show is the complete opposite, jesus in the comic towers over everybody, in the show everybody towers over jesus.
@@herpetolgyprodigy i think it’s even better that he doesn’t look intimidating. you don’t expect for him to be able to do the things he does and he does then anyways.
this is my favorite episode, its just what the walking dead means to me. Our group just simply surviving by some members looting and scavenging food. Bumping into a mysterious figure (my favorite character's debut) , excitement, couple walkers... and after a crazy day, coming home to their warm safe space. It's so comforting.
If Jesus had survived in TWD series, could easily have seen his character as the one that ended up in France, instead of Daryl Dixon. Would've loved the Nuns reaction when he told them his name was Jesus from America.
This mad lad duped both my boys, and that's when I knew I fell in love with his character. Such a huge shame he was so underused and they killed him off. Really want to see him make it out alive. Rip Jesus
I’ve noticed that a lot of people that Rick runs across or doesn’t trust turns out to be a reliable ally in the future Examples: Aaron, Gabriel, Michonne, Siddiq, etc
This was when times were simpler. Glenn was alive. The red wedding didn't exits yet and Game of Thrones paved the way until it closed it with their ending.
