The nuns just think Laurent is a miracle and a new messiah to lead people, basically the next Jesus. When they say he's the cure to a sick world they don’t literally mean he's immune or the cure to the virus. I also think him being born while his mother was a walker isn't too ridiculous especially because how all those events happened in such quick succession. It isn't FearTWD levels of unbelievability 😂

I think the reason they think he is a messiah and special because of the circumstances he was born in. His mother died during his birth and the priest was able to get him out fast enough that he survived.

I love how NoC Bro isnt making us wait for their reactions! I loved the back story of Laurent and Isabelle. Watching Daryl interact with the French is really awesome! I most definitely see parallels between this spin off and The Last Of Us. Which is surprisingly good.

My current speculation is that part of what makes Laurent “special” in Isabelle’s eyes is the fact that he was able to live through the birth even though mom died. Curious to see where that leads. Very interesting!

Mmmmh the most logical thing would be that she thinks that he is immune, since he was born from a walker, just like Ellie in the last of us :) And they said in the original walking dead that the French were the last one to keep doing research about the whole outbreak, things were confirmed in the first episode, the doctor talking about test subjects. So my guess is that Laurent will end up with those guys one way or an other and that they'll try to do a vaccine or something. Its only speculation though, but thats what makes sense in my mind :)

I think there was a ongoing theme here. Lies. The nuns lie to the boy, the girl lieing to the brother and Daryl lieing to the girl to get the horse. Lies can hurt.

My middle son was born at seven months and survived as he is 37 years old now but he did require an incubator as he struggled breathing. It all depends on how well developed the lungs are. She could have been perhaps 7 1/2 months along which gives more time for lung development. As for the baby not turning well the baby wasn't born dead.

I really am liking this new series almost as much as the flagship show. Laurent is a miracle in the eyes of the nuns and Pere Jean because he's preterm and living. I think the infection just didn't make it to Laurent's circulatory system yet which is why he didn't turn. Even my cat likes this spinoff. She sat and watched it with me. Yes, I have a weird kitty.

Yeah but maybe since he was born from a mother who already turned into a walker, maybe he is immune to it, i can't help myself but to speculate and imagine that Laurent will end up with the boat people, since they have a doctor talking about test subjects, maybe they will come up with a cure or something and that would be a cool end to the walking dead, finding a cure, Daryl going back to the US with that said cure, i don't know, just speculation :)

Regarding the Baby, this could help as a little explanation. Maternal blood flows into the placenta from the other side, and a membrane - the placental barrier - prevents it from mixing with the baby's blood. Nutrients and other smaller molecules, on the other hand, are allowed to pass through the placental barrier. The exchange goes both ways. Otherwise, the embryo would run the risk of falling ill and dying itself with every small viral illness of the mother. There are also many HIV patients who have babies without the HIV virus. In the series, they just got the child out of the woman fast enough before it died from lack of oxygen. What bothered me a bit about the episode is that the outbreak in Paris happened so quickly. Usually it takes a long time to die from a bite and then transform.

Frances walkers are different from American ones. When TWD first started it took like 2 days to turn, and as we progressed it got faster. In France if it started there, people could have turned faster

Also I can't believe no one mentioned that girl in flashback scene on that scooter bike w the braids that Isabelle talk too. Dude that has to be the walker girl we see in all the promos w the braids right!!!! She tells her to go back to her mom but guarantee when they show up back in Paris that Isabelle sees her. They wouldn't have highlighted her in a scene if there wasn't some significance to her!!

I think there may be more that we don't know about Laurent. I don't think he's immune (and I really hope that he's not cause I'm tired of immunity storylines) but I dunno, I can see it turning out that Isabelle isn't being fully truthful about something to Daryl.

Well in the trailer it seemed like the walkers ignored Laurent (like Morgan in season 6 premiere of FTWD) and maybe that's something to do with him being born from a walker mom. That is why they call him special but in reality if he did get bitten he'd probably die like the rest of them.

I think Isabelle (and the nuns) think Laurent is special because he survived what he shouldn’t have. I don’t think their knowledge of the virus/walkers was such that they’d recognize any possible correlation between his mother being bitten and his birth. They still had Father Jean locked up in a room, believing he could eventually be saved and his soul restored. Similarly to Hershel who thought the right dose of Robitussin or what have you would do the trick. But we’ll see…maybe we’ll learn at some point that Laurent was bitten but didn’t turn, but still thinking the circumstances of his birth, combined with his keen intuitiveness and perhaps some ESP, have labeled him as “special”.

I hope Laurent does not die like the saint he's named after. Took a while to look up the saint - it's also the name of an expensive fashion house in France, first thing I got was designer handbags - but according to legend, the original St Laurent was cooked alive over coals after his Pope had been killed by the Romans in the first century, and a later St. Lawrence in the 16th century knew many languages, traveled a lot and died of a sickness. Which is our Laurent's fate? Also, to everyone tripping that it's like Last Of Us: The Hero's Journey is a trope, one we've been seeing forever. It's more about never giving up, always going forward, no matter the ultimate goal and all the obstacles on the way.

Some initial comments - Quinn is the guy that was with Isabelle at the start. He's British, so that's why they were speaking English to each other. He was involved in the black market & probably fenced the watches & credit cards Isabelle stole. He will be seen in episode 3 or 4 - he's the guy running the underground night club - Paris is the initial destination for Laurent. Although I suspect, his final destination may be elsewhere (Mont St Michel is my guess) - I don't expect Laurent to have any immunity. I am expecting the circumstances of his birth to give him some camouflage to the walkers. - Saint Laurent wasn't made up. He was a martyr who was, according to some accounts, cooked on a griddle over open flame.

I LOVED this episode. It has so much personality, such a different vibe, and I know that's likely putting some fans off, but I'm enjoying it. Dead City is gritty and dark, and this spin off seems... I dunno, "apocalypse charming?" It's gorgeous to look at. As a Canadian, I adore the French background and can appreciate the frequent language switching. It's kind of like the way people couldn't understand Sun in Black Summer, I preferred that as a nod to realism. After the Fall, we'd have trouble understanding one another but the stark social urge to either make a community or shun others, that's so fascinating to watch. I liked discovering Isobel's past and how Laurent was born. I hope it's not like Last of Us, where people think he's the cure, but even if it is, I'll roll with it. For Daryl lol. I'll forgive it.

It's called a C-section and that's Laurent and that's the point, 'We don't know'!! "Alouette" is a popular Quebecois children's song, commonly thought to be about plucking the feathers from a lark. Most American s learned this song as kids...Many US Marines and other Allied soldiers learned the song while serving in France during World War I and took it home with them, passing it on to their children and grandchildren. Americans did learn this song when kids...doubt how many would know it now. Her sister tells her, 'Remember 'Alouette'. Better times.

I think they think Laurent is special because of the feelings / visions he has had throught out his life. It is also possible that maybe he somehow kept his mother from dying /getting sick during the pregnancy. They maybe going towards the Ellie of "The Last of Us" is immune plot line ... or ... it may just be that they feel he has the charm/feelings/knowledge to become the world leader to bring humanity to what it was before the Zombie Apocalypse took over and changed the world.

Not a doctor, studying to become one. Heard of a case from a paramedic of a patient who was in cardiac arrest, active cardiac arrest, and was 9 months. Upon entering the ED, the ED doc cracked her chest open (trying to stop a bleed from a puncture wound that bled rapidly). OB-GYN arrived, and after the patient was consistently being given compressions by the ED doc and a trauma surgeon concluding she was too far gone, the OBGYN did an emergency Caesarean, allowing for the kid to live. This kid from what I remember never lost his fetal heartbeat, was deliver one week early, and lived. It is possible for them to live, infact, even during infection. B-cells make special (IgA) antibodies that cross the placenta easily and can slow infections, while amniotic fluid can have immune cells inside it to promote growth and prevent infection. The placenta itself has specialized immune cells (Hofbauer Macrophages if I recall.), and like other macrophages, are just big cells that envelop enemies. So combining the babies immune system and the mother’s body naturally trying to erect barriers to prevent child infection, baby can live.

I don't think Laurent is a cure per se. I think they think there is a great purpose for his life. His survival is a huge miracle. Who knows what his mother was doing while pregnant first of all. Then she was going into pre-term labor, then she was bit, then he was born prematurely by emergency c-section by non medical professionals. There has to be a reason why he survives.

Hey Guys another great DD episode. Izzy was a druggie and a thief 😂 with scars on her wrist b4 the fall. There was screaming right as Izzy left the club so someone died and came back. I wonder where that train eventually ended up at 😂. R.I.P. Esme another animal bit the dust. RJ talking bout he’s an American as if the walkers give a damn. I loved seeing the back story of Isabelle. Btw I thought it was kinda cool they put in Giddings, Texas in the episode even though the guy was a douche. I live about 25.miles from there and partied there in my mid 20s. That's where I met my husband in a bar called Charlie's. Kinda cool. Can't wait for the next episode!!! I was thinking, the Civil Republic were getting the smartest people to help find a cure in World Beyond, I wonder if the boy could be someone they would want to help on findings a cure. It would interesting if when they get to Paris the SR is already there and take the boy to help in their research. It would connect things in the World Beyond end trailer and the boat in the first episode.

isabelle has self harm scars not tattoos, so excited to see your guys reaction to this ep hihi, the thing that i was surprised was that her sis was 7month pregnant she said..and she had the baby right when they arrived at the abbey which means the baby was born 2 months early... how did the baby survive like idk isnt that super premature? maybe 7months its ok or idk ig thats why hes also special and a miracle . around her bite also looked nastyy. the kids part reminded me of telltale twd. it was soo dumb of em to leave all that info and map and recorder there at the abbey when they left now the bad guys know where to go smh.l the whole father daryl party was hilarious and when he was at the table eating xD

The placenta separates baby from mom, and the virus in her blood does not necessarily carry through into the sac cause fetus gets all nutrients delivered thru umbilical cord, which has its own technical delivery system. But even a simpler example are mom's that have HIV ( obviously scary often deadly blood virus) can & often do give birth to a perfectly healthy baby with no HIV at all. I hope that helps

Hi guys! The nun called laurant the Messiah, to me that word is used for Jesus. He does see things in the future, like he knew Daryl was coming from the ocean. No a baby won't die rite away if the mother dies, but u would have to hurry. Since everyone carries the virus, then the mom gets bit, it would go through the umbilical cord to the baby, maybe like a vaccine. I don't watch The Last Of Us, but everything has been done already, so hard to make up new storylines. So I was thinking laurant might just be a leader, like u said, maybe he's a genius qnd he's good hearted. But he is old enough to be told the truth so he can prepare himself for this saving mankind task

i really can't wrap my head around laurent being alive either. but maybe his mother died of the child birth and not from the actual infection, that is the only way i can think of a reason as to why laurent wasnt infected yet. the virus hadnt reached the whomb. but also how did laurent not die as soon as the mother died and turned? laurent has lived inside a walker wtf.
