The Walking Dead Game: Cut Content Update - Season 3 

I didn't hate season 3, but the way they handled season 2s ending was awful.

It’s so goddamn sad seeing Sandra use her last moments trying to save clementine

"I think your game has failed if it's more interesting to talk about what's cut compared to what's in the actual game." That...Really hit me. Good stuff like always!

They should've made Joan be Eleanor's mother, that would actually make the game way better than the way it is. The flashback with Sandra and Clemetine would of made me so thrilled, even more than seeing Lee in season 4, It's just so interesitng and gives us details on what Clementine went through before Lee was there.

the original story sounds so much more interesting

God, that last Sandra animation is so brutal... looking after Clem, possibly reaching out for her, for help... only to die...

the cut audio from the clementine/sandra flashback gives me damn chills. clementine breathing heavily and crying due to what she witnessed with sandra and the horror of it, the parents leaving a voice message on why they wouldn’t be back after everything that had just occurred and the sirens in the background. that would have a fucking AMAZING way to help introduce season 3. it’s a shame how fucked over it got in the end because of higher ups.

in fact, behind the game box there is written "In the skin of Javier, a young man determined to find his missing family, you meet a young girl who has suffered an unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your destinies are linked in a story where each of your choices could be the last. " So even behind the box of the game there is this original story which is not at all the final story.

Not keeping Sandra's scene is devestating. As bad as Season 3 is I still probably would have enjoyed that. Also I still for the life of me cannot figure out why they made the characters look like shiny plastic dolls.

The cut content is better than the actual game

One thing has been bugging me for a while. Remember before the Final Season's release, Telltale released that Story Builder where you could relive some of your previous decisions from the other seasons and depending on your choices, you would get a different Clementine. One being 'Brutal' for example, or another being 'Selfless' etc. I remember each of the four options had a different weapon in Clem's hand, if I remember correctly there was a knife, a machete, a hammer or an axe. But in the final game Clementine's main weapon is the knife. What if it was originally planned that Clem's main weapon that she would use against walkers would be dependent on your choices in the previous games? If your Clementine was Brutal, her weapon of choice would've been the axe for example. Or if your Clementine was Selfless, her weapon of choice would've been the hammer, etc. It's just something that looked like it had meaning before the game's release but turned out to have been all for nothing.

29:40 dude this was so damn genius, the last thing Clementine sees of her house in this flashback is the first thing Lee sees by the time of his arrival. Sandra's bloody handprint.

i say this a lot but MARIANA WAS SUCH WASTED POTENTIAL! in my honest opinion, she was the best character in this entire game, and she was only in it for 20 minutes (if that). she was THE one character you could instantly feel an obligation to protect, she wasnt whiny or incapable, but she seemed to need some guidance bc i assume she cant protect herself (hence why javi would tell her to hide in a state of emergency). they could have made her relationship with javi matter, but instead her entire role was "oh hey remember that kid we had with us for four years and treat like our own child but then she was shot by some bald dude with a rodents name? yeah, ahaha...that sucked didnt it. oh well!!" its so stupid lmao, imagine if your choices impacted mariana as a character, and the way she turned out impacted what the other characters thought or learned from you. maybe it would encourage clem to raise aj a certain way in tfs. she couldve even been a determinant character like conrad, except shes a lot more likeable and youd probably WANT to keep her alive throughout all the episodes. believe it or not, i dont even hate gabe, but i still think maybe the wrong garcía child died. mariana in gabes place would have worked so much better. imagine if mari and clem had got to talk! theyd have been such a badass lil duo! maybe clem could have even taught her to shoot, and took on a sisterly-type role for her. idk. this entire game was wasted potential tbh, its sad to see that so much passion was cut from a completely passion-less game.

In a nutshell, Season 3 could be extremely better :(

Due to strict parents, season 3 was my first exposure to twd. I hadn’t seen any of the previous seasons, which is probably why I was able to care about Javi and his fam. Season 3 will always have a special place in my heart, but even I can see all this cut content would be ten times more enjoyable to play and experience.

This game was a total wreck. A few things that ticked me off: -Clementine knows about gun safety. Even if she was 100% certain the bullets were faulty, she would never point a loaded gun at someone she did not intend to kill -- as established in S2 when Sarah has the gun. -When Tripp dies (if you saved him from Joan), there is no music. No dramatic anything. I don't know if this is also true for Ava's death, but I'm willing to bet it is. -If you don't kill Joan, she's just... gone. MIA. No resolution. -I really, really did not like Kate. She was childish most of the time and the way I was railroaded into having a romantic relationship with her was infuriating. When I told David I had never, EVER done anything with her, David was still pissed at me (didn't believe me) and Kate was also pissed. I wanted to try to date Eleanor, as we flirted upon my arrival to Prescott-- but no, they needed Eleanor to be a piece of Tripp's creepy infatuation. -Why did Eleanor snitch to Joan about or plan? I'm not sure if you are upfront about Conrad's fate in the train, or if he doesn't die there at all if someone else is a snitch, but it just didn't make sense with her motivations to me. If anyone would snitch, I would imagine it to be Tripp. -Jane and Kenny's MODELS. Yeah, killing them off was a cheap move (and especially Jane's death didn't make any sense with her character), but an expected one -- but good lord, at least make their models RESEMBLE them! -The story adds nothing to the overarching story, which we now know is all about Clementine. Without any of these events, we could have cut from the end of S2 to the beginning of S4 with a single scene explaining Kenny/Jane's fate. There's probably more, but this was just off the top of my head. At least the Final Season was pretty good (IMO), and since I preordered it on Steam I have all 4 episodes on there and not, like, half and half on Epic or wherever.

The whole slaughterhouse plot and Clem meetimg Javi there would have made so much better plot wise

I would have wanted clem try to get meds for aj. Get kidnapped leaving aj with the new frontier. While clem finds a way out javier is put in another jail cage taken from the dumpster where his family is. I would have wanted javi and clem to meet in the slaughterhouse in jail cells. And then a horde attacks the staugher house leaving javi and clem a way to escape. With their escape clem want revenge on the new frontier because they put them in the jail cells. Javier joins clem but its sure to join clem on him revenge until javi returned to the garade dump. And found out that the new frontier killed his daughter then after this he and his family join clem to get revenge on the new frontier and then other things happened. It should have been like that honestly i could write a whole plot with that cut context.

Imagine If Kenny and Jane came back in episode 3 and turned out to be at the new frontier. It still could have worked out in the story and pacing all they would have had to do is just kill Tripp during the attack on the slaughterhouse and you could replace Tripp at any point in the story with Kenny and Jane. And not to mention they they should have made us chose between Kenny and Luke at the end of season 2

And we end off... where we begun. This was probably the best video you've ever made! Insane how it's been 3 years since your first upload, feels like yesterday. Yeah I remember that cut Kenny flashback with the lake, I might've actually been the one who asked Gavin that question, if there was anything cut from the story that he remembered. I still have parts of that AMA saved on my computer I believe. The weirdest thing though was how someone uploaded that image of the scenario on Reddit like right after Gavin confirmed it was real. How was that image even obtained? And why was it not uploaded before? I remember asking him how he got it but he didn't want to say for some reason. The concept art you showed looked INCREDIBLE by the way, especially how nature has slowly started to reclaim the abandoned cities, just how it would happen in real life. Now there's something that someone clearly put effort into, only for it to be thrown away of course. And don't get me started on the slaughterhouse... "I think the game is failed when it's more interesting to talk about what's not in the story, rather than what is." Well said. Your cut content videos have given me so much more than the actual game did, because everything that's actually interesting wasn't allowed to be in the game. Thanks for not hiding how you feel about ANF, I agree wholeheartedly. Such a frustrating experience. I would've been even able to stomach all the crappy and cheap writing and handling of the game, but the way they treated characters from previous games (with turning Clementine into an insufferable asshole being my #1 issue) felt like such a slap in the face. They lacked vision for the game and competent managment and they paid the ultimate price. It's annoying that all we could do at the time was to just helplessly watch as they ruin themselves along with their most beloved franchise. Sorry for ranting, but I still feel passionate about it to this day.

I honestly enjoyed a new frontier, and I still do but it's pretty sad to see just how much better it could of been, slaughter houses are pretty good in horror settings and the sandra flashback would of been amazing

Honestly season 3 could have been the best season. It makes me sad to never see what could have been. Also honestly the marketing team shouldn’t be the ones to decide what a good game is, that’s why you hire artists, writers and etc. You hire them for their talent and cause they know what they are doing.

It’s sad how much better this game could have been. You make an excellent point when you mentioned that examining the cut content is more interesting than the final game, you are completely right. This wouldn’t have been the case if a lot of this cut content had instead been completely. Damn shame

I liked season 3 for some reason, it still is one of my favorite twd games season 4 I think is better tho

Even though I like season 3 it is just straight depressing to think about what this season could have been. It genuinely sounds like it could have been the best season yet, had it gotten the time it deserved. The slaughterhouse sounded really cool and the old environments in the concept art just look fantastic. The idea of constantly switching between javi and clem, maybe making Choices as one character that could impact the other just sounds amazing. Also, is it just me or does the realistic art style season 3 has look much better in old pre-release screenshots than in the actual game. In the actual game, the comic book art style and realistic look clash but it looks good in the old screenshots. Petition for ANF to be remade with the original story, characters and look.

So hearthbreaking to see how people were treated at Telltale. I love the games they did so much, and they have shaped me during many difficult moments in my life, that seeing them being mistreated is just unbearable. The quality of the games they did, despite the chaotic context in which they were developed, is a testimony to the skill of the people who worked there. I really hope that wherever they are they are happy and still working on great games! I know it will probably never happen but I would love to see the teams reunited under good and humane leadership to create a new the walking dead series. it would start with Lee again but then would evolve completely differently like an alternate story. it would make sense because the walking dead was always about how the game adapted to the player's choice, although it was still very limited due to development constraints. What if Clem and Lee stayed at Hershel's instead of going with Kenny? What if Lily hadn't shoot Carley(or Doug)? What if the boat had not been stolen? What if Lee had not been bitten? What if Duck and Kaatja made it in season 2? The list is so long and there are so many ways of fixing what bad leadership did that I will just cling to this dream. thank you for your amazing video !

I remember when i first watched season 3 gameplay i was like "but none of the screenshots we saw before the release were in the game" Now i know why...

It was 5:30AM here, where I am living when I woke up and started watching this video, but I didn’t care! I just needed to watch this. Thank you, InColdBlood! :-) I really wish we could see Clementine's flashback with Sandra and scene in the slaughter house, because that was the scene I was waiting for during watching gameplay from S3EP1 for the first time. I can't believe that those scenes which could be really good, were cut for no big reason. However, I am glad that scenes like Mariana as a walker and Kenny's original death were cut. "In the original version of the story Kate's character didn't exist"? Oh... well... how sad (sarcasm, I wasn't a big fan of Kate and that’s because of her character, relationship between Javi and David looked like it looked). I still can’t believe that Season 3 could be a lot better than the final version of it, but at the end, it ended up as (in my opinion) the worst season of The Walking Dead Game Series. Because we already know what Season 3 turned out to be, when we compared original version of the story with the final version of it, I am not surprised that Telltale Games was shut down. I am not surprised at all, which is kinda sad, especially after great Season 1 and really good Season 2. So many things that were just cut and why? Couple months before the premiere of S3EP1, in July 2016 I think, we could see like 3 screenshots from the game, the same screenshots we could see in this video - first one with Clementine and Javier in the slaughterhouse, second one with Clementine and AJ in the alley, third one in Prescott, we could see Clementine and Javier during chatting or more like during arguing. And absolutely none of these scenes we could see on those screenshots happened. I remember that after the premiere of the game I was really disappointed.

It was clear Eleanor betraying the group was planned from the start, I remember Clem saying in the first episode she doesn't trust her and I pretty much knew from then on that it'd probably happen sooner or later, but honestly the way they did it was so stupid. It was like they just had a checklist of stuff they had to squeeze into the story and that was one of them, regardless of how poor the story ended up being.

Damn, you can tell a flashback’s sad when you get goosebumps and get emotional over the buggy-unused animations and sounds from it. MAJOR loss that the Sandra flashback wasn’t used in the final game.

Yikes it's worse than I thought. I thought it was bad that they just ignored the endings of season 2 and made Clem a side character in her own story in favor of a family no one cared about. I honestly would have preferred the originally intended game over what we got.

Wow, I had no idea very bad things were happening at Telltale during ANF's development. Now I outright sad for Telltale's employees. I was hoping they would do great after The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 and Wolf Among Us but damn did they fall from grace once ANF was released

I'm really 50/50 with this - even though I did really like A New Frontier, I do think all of these original concepts are interesting as all hell and a lot of them would've been superior especially with the slaughterhouse section.

The term "walking dead story" is such a bizarre concept to me, because it's implying that "The Walking Dead" is in it's own genre. I don't know about you, but I think every "walking dead story" told so far have been vastly different from each other, whether it be from the comics, the spinoff, or any of the games. It just seems like a cheap excuse to dodge the question, lmao

I don't know how accurate the entire thing is, but I remember back in the day that I read about how the Michonne series, which I did still enjoy to a degree as a comic fan, was supposed to star Javier and give us his backstory as to how he was branded and his family captured and it was to take place in Texas. Then, the story was going to go more like it seems here, with a slaughterhouse and The New Frontier being led by 'Mason' and being much more like a cult than a community of survivors. It all sounds rather intriguing, regardless of the authenticity of all of the details. Seems more like a horror story too, and that would be awesome for The Walking Dead, so if any of it was true then I'm pissed off at their decision to change the story because it never "felt like The Walking Dead". The ideas here all remind me of Starved For Help and the Fear the Hunters comic arc. AKA, two of the best parts of the game and comics.

It would’ve been so cool to see a first person view of clementine escaping to the tree house. And it going back to present day to lee opening clem’s back door

i guess i would want the sandra scene at least, but I have some closure knowing what happened based off these animations, she opens the door after hearing scratching and looking through the peephole. she gets bit, the walker goes after clem but sandra pulls the walker back to help clem, clem gets up, grabs her walkie talkie and runs to her treehouse

I loved this video, thank you for giving us more of an insight as to what was suppose to happen. It always felt so strange to me that Clementine was only playable in flashbacks but it seems she was suppose to have much more of a protagonist role, I remember when this game was advertising I assumed we would flick between both her and Javier each episode. So much cut content, I wish we could see these games remade to their full potential. Never gonna happen though. Again, thank you!

In all seriousness, great work on the video and bringing this detailed, insightful, and overall just super interesting series to an end with a bang. I have been marathoning your videos all day today after finishing the final season last night, and this has been a great way to keep me immersed in the series. The slaughterhouse itself is a very interesting concept and seems like a great inciting incident for this alternate, cut version of ANF. I can agree with the point that just having the action sequence at the slaughterhouse wouldn't have automatically made the game good, but I think a lot of the ideas it sets up for, had they been cashed in on, could have cascaded into a better story for both Javier and Clementine. Having them meet in the slaughterhouse prison (assuming that was even the plan) rather than the convoy crash sets their relationship off on the right foot as they need to rely on each other to survive in a new, unfamiliar environment. Having Javier's goal be to get his family back, aligning it directly with Clementine, also does a good job of kickstarting their bonding. Trent's group raiding the slaughterhouse and rescuing them also makes them seem cool and competent, rather than the traditional "odd misfit in a new group that brings misfortune and drama after ruining the community" that we've seen time and time again. Of course, if they wanted drama later, that's fine, but I think on starting premise alone the slaughterhouse would have been a better introduction for the wider group as well. Overall, I think the slaughterhouse introduction to the characters solves a big problem with ANF: having to choose between Javier's story and Clem's story, figuratively speaking. With the two more intertwined like this, Clem feels more like a valuable part of ANF's story rather than a tangential relic of an unrelated story that has to keep pulling the plot back to her since that's why most players are there (and because the ANF characters won't be around after this, thus their stories don't matter as much as advancing the AJ plot). The two work in harmony rather than discord. Perhaps I'm being too idealistic about how good it would have been for the story (and it always could have been messed up later down the line), and maybe execution would have left the premise falling short of its potential, but oh well. Not much we can do about it now. Like I said, it's been great to see the wealth of interesting content on this channel and it's kept me thinking about the series after finishing the final season last night. All throughout my Season 4 playthrough, I was hit with the feeling that everything was coming to an end. Not just the series, or the studio that made it, but that style of point-and-click adventure game. We see eras of game genres and trends that push old entries out and usher in new ones to be the vanguard moving forward. We all know that part of Telltale's downfall was their failure to innovate, and as such playing through their final game felt like the culmination of all that stagnation. The Final Season was a relic of a bygone era, as teams like Supermassive Games gear up to take the genre to new heights. It was simultaneously the progenitor of the genre's success and now this stunning display of stubbornness, clinging to outdated mechanics. I'm glad I got closure, and for what it's worth I by-and-large liked it as a conclusion of the series, even if the cracks in its development process were visible at every turn. To me, TWD games will now stand not only a great game series with a troubled and turbulent midsection, but as a cautionary tale for the industry, a time capsule of a poor development paradigm, and a damn bleak experience when you realize that even if it didn't come to a perfect end, it almost didn't come to an end at all, which is far scarier. And your cut content videos gave a peek behind the curtain to the rest of those aspects of the game, going beyond just what we see when we play. Thank you so much for that, and as you eventually leave the series behind for what comes next, I will be incredibly interested to see what you have in store. TL;DR A long ass comment on how the slaughterhouse could have made ANF better, TWD as a piece of gaming history and a tragic metatextual tale, and a note of thanks for this great channel and video series.

I still prefer this to Season 2, believe it or not. Season 2 handled a lot of stuff more wrong than it should’ve, thanks to the entire story being rewrote between episodes. Plus, Amid the Ruins is worse than anything else Telltale has put

S3 and s4 had a lot of wasted potential... a pity that they ended up being the worst seasons I hope someone hacks those passwords that are hiding the earlier builds :(

If Telltale really does wanna continue with this franchise, what about a reboot starting at 2? There's no saving this current timeline imo, imagine if the OG writers come back and do a whole remake of season 2, make it open ended enough to easily make a sequel, but final enough to be the last game, like season 1.
