Thank you for never pausing and listening to the whole song before commenting. So many others stop the music so many times and it's very frustrating.

This song was co written by the lead singer of the Wallflowers Jacob Dylan and the lead singer songwriter from Counting Crows Adam Duritz. He is actually the backing vocals in the chorus. You guys have done Round Here by Counting Crows before if I remember correctly.

Actually, I don't think Adam is in this song. I know he did background vocals on 6th Avenue Heartache, but I don't here him on this one.

Hi there & thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. Jakob Dylan the writer said this song is about the death of ideas, and towards the end it does sound like someone trying to emerge from trauma with his intellect, his worldview intact .. maybe with a single truth or value he was able to hang onto? I love the line "the long broken arm of human law". His dad Bob is pretty famous around here :-)

The author of the lyrics may have had some legal training. In the US, each state has what is called a "long arm" statute which determines what the jurisdiction of the state's law is.

A real foot tapper ! The meaning is a bit mysterious, but Jakob has a really good rocker-voice. My favorite of this band.

I really love your interpretation of him accidentally killing her in a terrible accident. Makes me listen to the lyrics differently.

Metophoric songs leave alot of room for interpitation.i agree with her.i think the singer is the truck forced to keep going after losing the love of his life.that being the one burned out headlight.
