I always watch the Waltons, the show was a family staple on values and work ethic of by gone days. I have all the DVDs and my granddaughter watched when she was little ( now 16). Doing the Civil War re-enactment at Appomattox a few years back, I took her for a side trip to Schuyler . She was very much surprised at how small the house really was and all the children that lived in it. The museum was a trip down Walton memory lane. Now I see there is John and Olivia’s b & b across from it . Set the same way , wonderful experience.
Hello Fritzie and thank-you for visiting us and leaving a sweet comment. What a joy for you to share the Waltons TV shows with your granddaughter via the DVDs! It is wonderful that y'all were able to travel there while in the area. (Our family really enjoys visiting Appomattox, as well.) You mentioned the B & B so I wanted to post the link to our little tour of that house, as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3-yt-Aoat-k.html Maybe you and your granddaughter might go see it someday. Thanks again for visiting us here at Heritage Ways. ❤️katie
Wow. Lovely well-furnished home with many conveniences. This family definitely wasn't very poor during the depression as were so many rural and mountain and country and southern families. My parents were raised during the depression, and they always said that based on the TV show it seemed to be about a family who lived above the poverty of the depression. The Hamner family was very blessed and fortunate to have not become the suffering victims of that time period...people basically starved if they couldn't grow their own food...they sold all their belongings to buy what food they could get...children couldn't attend school because they had to work even at young ages, many very young boys worked in the coal mines and on logging crews. ...The Waltons TV show was very nice family entertainment during its time.
I like it when Culpeper gets mentioned on the Waltons, The Waltons along with Little house on the prairie were classic tv at its best, I cherish my DVD sets of both.
@@HeritageWaysKatieMy pleasure, I visited the house on November 11th in Schuyler and though the sign said open it was locked but that's ok I enjoyed my visit at the little corner store, The museum was closed as well but I just liked being there in general, What a beautiful magnificent area.
@@HeritageWaysKatie I'm a huge fan of the Andy Griffith show as well, But Gunsmoke will always be my all time favorite show, I love that cast, Doc Adams is my all time favorite tv character.
That was a lovely trip. I enjoyed it very much. I loved watching the Waltons. I appreciate these Friday trips. It takes me away from all this stuff going on in the world. Thank you so very much. God bless y’all and your precious family.
Oh you just made my day, no ma’am my month! Taking folks away from all this craziness in the world was my very intention of having field trip Friday. Praise God that it’s a blessing to you!! Thank you for sharing that with me♥️katie
Hi Kt🌼what a memorable field trip The Walton's house must of been. As a young girl my family watched the show, shed many a tear over stories ( my dad used to call them tear jerkers) we also learnt a little about american family life back then. Thanks for sharing this memory again xxx
Did the Hamner grandparents have a bedroom on the lower level? Also, where did their 8 actual children sleep, since the real house is much smaller? Thank you. I had the opportunity to visit once while in the area to tour Monticello!
Yes, one of my friends on the mountain texted to see if we were going there this year (last week) but we just couldn't make it. So happy you enjoyed it. 🤎🤎
The Fans of the Countries which speak the French language, throughout the whole world, cry the disappearance of the FRENCH version of the series "The Waltons" (or "Walton's Mountain"), named: "La Famille des Collines" We kindly ask you to find the references of the rightsholders so that we can find a FR audio version as it was already available in the 1990s and, as soon as possible : to provide us with the means to buy the DVDs of this lovely series... to show it to our children. Please The values of the Walton family history, through the 9 seasons of your TV series, rocked my childhood, and I miss them deeply. Respectfully J. G. URS
No need to feel silly. The real family were the Hamners. Earl Hamner, Jr., is the creator of The Waltons, based on his life in the Blue Ridge Mts. in Schuyler, Virginia. The house in this video IS the actual house that he lived in with his parents and brothers and sisters (no grandparents). The schoolhouse across the road is now a museum dedicated to the Waltons TV show and the Hamners' lives. The house behind this one is a new one but it is called John and Olivia's Bed and Breakfast and is built very similarly to the TV Walton house. On this channel we have two more Waltons videos that fans might enjoy. I hope this helped and we are grateful for your visit to our video. ❤️katie
Earl Hamner Jr, who wrote the show the Waltons, and used his life as inspiration for the stories, and who was basically John Boy, went on to also create the show Falcon’s Crest and wrote 6 episodes of the Twilight Zone.
Wish i could meet johnboy even a phone call or a message would be a miracle💛🌟🌟💛soul powerful been watching episodes everyday especially now.i drench in years watching thiz the waltons series never gets old kist like at age 8 watching them
The Hamner family definitely didn't live within the suffering poverty during the great depression era. People starved if they couldn't grow their own food, they sold all their belongings to get what food they could, very young boys worked in the coal mines and on logging crews, children couldn't attend school because they had to help their families. My parents lived during that time period and always said that The Waltons TV show was about a family living above the hardships of the great depression.
The Hamner family would be considered the “real Waltons” since Earl Hamner based his stories of “The Waltons” on his childhood. Hope that helps 👍🏽katie
This is the actual house the Hamners lived in. The replica (which is in VA) for the Waltons set house (which is in CA) is a different house. We have two videos about that house. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3-yt-Aoat-k.html
