Unlike most (all?) of their other songs, this one comes directly from personal experience -- specifically, Pau wrote the song after she had a falling out with someone close. So if she seemed to be more than a little angry during the performance, it's because she was. When she sang "I hope to God you know, this smile is just for show", that look she shot was for that person.

its ABOUT DAMN TIME lol to be honest Animosity did really get me hyped the first time either, but after listening to it on the playlist (its The Warning, they have their own playlist) for about two weeks, it really grew on me. currently #3 of the EP for me behind Evolve and Martirio. 🤘🤘

David, I don’t have an issue with your score for Animosity, the thing I’m a bit shocked about is that you didn’t notice Ale using a pick for the first time in any TW original song. This track started as my least favorite on the EP also but the more I listened to it the better it keeps getting. The way I judge a reactors authenticity is by how many of them have purchased tickets to see TW on their Mayday tour…and it’s a lot of them!

This place is Victoria Records in Monterrey and I love the sound here, it really makes their songs come alive. Also this is where Ale uses a pick, a rare sight. The second voice you hear is probably Ale, if you want to see this in action check out "Money" their latest new release, that one rocks. "Selective Hearing", guilty because I heard a score of 9.0 😁

Hey David. When I first heard this song, it was the least favorite of mine from the EP as well. However, it really grows on you. It is so catchy and the lyrics are so good that you find yourself singing or humming it after a while. LOL. Fun Fact: This is the first original The Warning song where Ale uses a pick. ;) Check out the official Music video! It's very cool anime that goes SO well with the song!!

They use background tracks in all of their live concerts. I read this as a recorded live practice. So it's fine with me. As for Ale's camera shyness: she's still only 17. One easily forgets. And: the official Evolve video shows how sultry she can be with camera's once a director tells her to. It's senseless to argue with scores, but in the context of your other TW scores a mid 8 makes absolute sense. It's not their biggest banger nor most advanced composition nor best hookline. It's a very solid rock song a few other bands would make a career off. For TW it is a solid filler.

Great score David I’m like many of the fans that when this song first came out it wasn’t on the top of my list but as I listened to it more specially in front of large or small crowds it started to become one of my favorites but don’t worry about your score it was a great score and David us Warning fans know better than that to go after you for telling it how it is we know when a reactor is giving his legitimate point of view and when a reactor is just trying to hate or disrespect the girls and you have never disrespected them that’s why we love your reactions thanks again David and have a great day cheers

You’re so right about reactors who are terrified to say even the mildest thing that might upset fans. I don’t need to be told how right I am. I would much rather learn something from a reactor who actually knows what he or she is talking about. Animosity took some time to grow on me, but I love it now. It’s not my absolute favorite either (that would be Z or Disciple), but obviously this stuff is subjective. I’ve evolved a lot re: stems (or backing tracks). Frankly, I was ignorant on that score. I wish all these self-appointed “purists” could see there are nuances to these things. There are relatively subtle elements that bands like TW utilize to provide a better sonic experience for the audience…and then there are those who simply can’t play or sing well enough in a live setting and use tracks as a crutch. The difference between those two scenarios is pretty wide, but unfortunately there are some who refuse to differentiate between them. It’s sad.

We all have our different rating of songs on an album. Your score is still a great score. Taste is personal. My ranking will be different than other people. And YES you are so right! Not all songs on an album can be your favorite at the same time. It can change over time sure.

I like your reacting style. I admit, I do not watch or listen to all of your vids, but if I do, you pretty much always get a thumbs up, because of your (still subjective - as all opinions and preferences are by nature) well developped and structured opinions and insights. I hate those wannabe "reactors" with vids barely half a minute longer than the song itself, and this half minute is used entirely to self promote and ti say 'that was great' ...

Super reaction Dave. This song started at the bottom of the Mayday list for me as well but it really grew on me and now I really like it. It also sounds great live at a concert and that’s considering that all I’ve seen are fan videos of their recent performances up to this point. Great score though…Harumph 😤.

Avoid rant quest: failed! 😂 Pretty sure I heard you say you’re digging the song. 👍🏼 All the songs are great,imo. Every song has people who has it as their favourite. The Warning have always used tracks to fill out the sound, though if it disappears during a gig most people wouldn’t really notice.

Actually in these sesion videos, two or three, you can see in a few moments they made different takes and then made the edition. I don´t remember wich one but you can notice it´s not the same, beginning to end, perfomance. But it´s ok, as you say: you want to deliver the best video to your fans, and I think they made this live videos thinking in reactors, because it´s not the official video, and also the fans that we love it see they live. These videos was made before they can have a real live concert. Fortunately for us now we has a few videos performing live these songs, many of them from the fans and even with bad sound and bad camera angles it´s very different and more exciting see them in front of a real crowd after more than 2 years from their last concert. Great review as alwalys.

I almost guessed right the score you would give it hehehe ;) which I think is fair. This is not one of my favourites either, although I like it a lot more than "Martirio", but, in my opinion, "Z" seems more powerful, and they are using it as an opening song in the shows in a very intelligent and dynamic way ;) By the way, when a reactor always loves everything they suggest, but doesn't comment on those details that stand out in a song, either for good or bad, it makes me personally suspicious. Ah, a fourth option (perhaps the least possible) for that second voice would be that those shots were from Dany-centric shots and they didn't realise that in the final edit you could see that only Dany was singing and you could hear two voices ;) Thanks for the feedback and honesty ;) Greetings from Spain ;) PS. Seven now that they have released Money (not on the EP) from the second half of their 3rd album. BTW, now that they are doing live concerts again is Mrs Heretic going to react to them on stage? Especially at their Monterrey concert there was much more interaction between Ale and Dany. From her comments before I think she would really like when they did Evolve; March 24.

Harrumph!! We’re not sure if it was at the suggestion of another reactor, but recently Ale and Dany have been roaming the stage more and switching positions when they aren’t tied to their mics. The crowd on Dany’s side particularly love it when Ale comes over and flashes that sultry smile of hers. Great reaction as usual. 👍😎

This may sound odd, but watching this now after seeing their performances before real crowds, this video is almost boring by comparison (and I liked it when it first came out, and this is my current favorite from the upcoming album). But the energy they are bringing on stage is something else, especially from Ale. She’s moving all over the stage and basically flirting with the crowd in true rock-and -roll fashion. She and Dany are interacting a lot more, and there are new arrangements of some of the songs to play to the audience more. I can’t wait to see them in Boston next month.

Least favourite lol, I mean not every song can be your most favourite right? I have one that's my least favourite from Mayday EP too. Anyways back to this song, I love Ale's bass in this song especially that Gene Simmons slide. You are right about many other reactors pretending hence I don't watch too many reactions besides yours and few others. Dany's ma girl as you know and as a Dany fanboy I gotta say I love her voice and belts and I can't admire her enough for her confidence in playing to the camera and also for switching from rhythm to lead guitar tones back and forth while singing lead in this song. Best front woman on the planet. I don't need to tell you this, you get it since you are a musician. Have a great day, I'll be waiting for your reaction to Z :)

I love these live session songs. They just have something extra compared to the studio recording. Don't know if you heard but Ms Grrrl power herself, Lzzy Hale is taking the sisters on tour along with the Pretty Reckless and Lilith Czar. I really like this song, it's both heavier and more subtle than a lot of their stuff. Ale's bass really stands out in particular. That seems a perfectly reasonable score. They have stronger songs, though this is a very strong offering. Personally my least favorite song off Mayday is Choke. I just like the vibe on this better, but that's me. Great reaction!

SPECIAL NOTE; On KISS Alive album, first song, Gene Simmons popularizes that famous bass slide to most rock bassists. Yes I think he did it before on studio albums and live gigs.

8.4 is a great score, using your scale, I might have given it an 8.6. I really liked the bass tone in this song. I think this is the only song I've heard that Ale uses a pick. I've seen some people criticize bass players for using a pick, but I think it fit with this song. We should never be afraid to give our true opinion. Even if you hated the song, that should be ok. No one has the right to tell anyone what to like or dislike. I've watched some reactors mention that people thought that their criticism was unfounded, and for their next reaction they praise the thing they criticized in their previous reaction. Music is so objective, something I find to be great other people will hate and that's ok.

Apart from the theme "Z" you also need to listen to the song of the same Ep Mayday "Money" that came out on March 24. I know of your honesty and integrity but an 8.4 score seems to me that you have not savored this song well. It is curious that all of us Latinos really like this song, but it is true that people from the US still like it much more because it is a sound that is closer to the American sound. Check this song again for your enjoyment and if it can be with pad headphones much better. You'll ever be wrong right...??? I still have the torches saved... Hahaha, greetings ++++++++ Aparte del tema "Z" también te falta por escuchar la canción del mismo Ep Mayday "Money" que salió el 24 de marzo. Sé de tu honestidad e integridad pero un 8.4 de puntuación me parece que no lo has saboreado bien esta canción. Es curioso que a todos los latinos nos gusta mucho este tema pero es cierto que la gente de ee.uu aún les gusta mucho más pues es un sonido que está más cerca al sonido americano. This is the only song (so far) that Ale uses a pick to play! I like her finger-style playing, but the pick makes sense for this song. It has that sharp attack that works great for the fast downpicking.

Concerning voicing.... There is one more possibility, although not likely. I think the way they do these sessions is that they run through the song a few times to get all the camera angles. Then they take the best audio run through and splice together the videos. So maybe Pau or Ale did backup in one take and not another, or they used video from a different verse when the layering wasn't there because the video was better. I wouldn't be surprised if they do use a voice effect to get the octave... they do that with the guitar and they're pretty turned on to tech.

8.4 is a great score considering its not your favorite and neither is it mine. It’s like my 4th favorite after Evolve, Money, Z, and Disciple. For me this song is most amazing as a bassist.... she's doing chords (fifths and full rock chords) on the tops of those octave slides, and in the chorus) to fill the power trio sound out... something you specifically said you wish she'd done back as a kid doing sweet child o mine, so I know you approve... and using a pick (all down strokes mostly too!) for the first time in recorded history.... as well as singing harmonies with Dany without Pau (if you notice in the old days it was typically only with pau as well)....

After one view of each of the Mayday EP song official videos, Animosity and Z were my least favorite and Disciple and Evolve were at the top. However, after several listens of the EP audio only in different environments, Animosity and Disciple switched positions. Disciple's video is epic, but without the visuals it loses something in my opinion. Animosity, on the other hand, has grown on me and is so easy to relate to and sing along with. I think it is great that we can all have differing opinions while being The Warning fans!

On first hearing Animosity was my least favorite at the time. Upon many listens it now sits at #2 behind Evolve. It grew on me. Choke and Z are my bottom 2 at this time. Thanks for the honest review as usual!

Like your ojectivity, every time, their lyrics always hook me, their backtracking is mild and acceptalble compared with the tons of auto tune that use a lot of "popular" and "trendy" artists today. I didn’t really care for Animosity on first listen either. Now that I’ve heard it a lot and seen them play it live, it has jumped right up there with Evolve and Choke for me from Error. When I’m alone and The End are still my 2 of my favorite songs with Survive, Money, Disciple and Dull Knives just slightly behind the Top 5. Oops, I’d have to say XI Century Blood is tied with Animosity in my Top 5.

Great reaction! If people just calm down and take a look at your scoring guide they'll clearly see that 8.4 is literally a great score. This was my least favorite song on the Mayday EP at first but it's grown on me over time. The bridge is my favorite part of the song still cuz of Dany's vocals during that part specifically but Ale's baseline is fantastic throughout the song.

I don’t see how anyone who watches even just a few of David’s videos would have anything to complain about. I swear David gives most of their songs an 8.4, he’s constant, you know what you’re gonna get most of the time and that is a fair reaction--that’s all I can ask for.

Jinjer did heavy post-pro on their live session of Pisces, BUT they say so in their description of the song. I have no issue with it, but I don't think it was necessary.

Seriously though, I don't have a problem with your score, this is also my 2nd least favorite song from the Mayday EP with Martirio and Evolve being my top two, even though I don't understand a word of Spanish. There will always be songs that don't rank as high as others, what is surprising for me when it comes to The Warning is that I am yet to hear a single bad song from them, they are all great, every single one of them. Sure some are better than the others, but I can listen to all of them on repeat and not skip songs like I do with most other albums, that is what I find so endearing about them, they just don't write bad songs and I hope that trend continues. Some songs still take a bit to grow on me, like Z, that one took an Ale teaching Dany the Bass video before that one got really stuck in my head and now I find myself doing the Ale dance whenever Z is playing (and believe me you do not want to see me doing that). Great reaction love your content, keep it up and keep being honest.

Dave, dude... you're spending way to much time trying to appease the trolls. You literally spent 10 minutes over explaining your score and opinion to people that haven't watched your whole video. These idiots have left when the song finished and already posted their comments. must of us know and have read your ranking list and know that 8.4 is a great score, I personally was thinking 8.6-8.8 but 8.4 is fair. As for the vocal doubling it was more then likely option number two, Pau spend a lot of time programing their shows with Ableton Live and uses stems from the studio recording to enhance and augment their sound. Everything that is heard is played by one of the girls it just may not be live. You didn't mention Ale playing with a pick, she has always preferred to play fingerstyle this was the first time she had ever recorded a song with a pick, although she did use one in their newest version of Enter Sandman. I really can't wait for your reaction to Z it is my favourite followed by Evolve, Disciple, Money (just released March 25), Choke, Animosity, and Martirio.

Z is in my top 3, what a banger 🔥 The only song I still can’t connect with and I would say is my least favourite from the EP is Disciple. A great song but for me personally the others including Money are better. Again just my personal opinion 😊

I love you Dave - seriously I do. Finally got here nearly 2 weeks after your performance reaction to Animosity at Teatro Met 2022. So let's talk business Dany has used a vocal splitter previously, though here I reckon you're right - post editing and it sounds like Dany's. Like yourself, DPA are honest and have a lot of integrity regarding their music so miming doesn't sit well with them. Ale's using a pick!! Do I like this song, yes. Would I buy this as a single, probably. If this was a 'B' side to a single, say 'Choke' , would I be disappointed - hell no (that's two 'A' tracks for the price of one). Would I skip this on an album or playlist - no. But is it in my top 10 - most likely doing the fight club against another 20 or 30 tracks for 7 spots (my top 3 is set and will take a very good track (for me) to move into it). And that reflects your 8.4 I've said it before, and now again - ART IS SUBJECTIVE. And there is nothing wrong with having a least favorite of a selection (and considering your least favorite is still an 8.4 - well that just says it all) while others may have this as their top 2. Be an individual, not a 'Disciple' - something that DPA would respect far more. Personally, I am disappointed that you are not a fan of acoustics since my top 3 would fall into that bracket (When I'm Alone, Black Holes, Crimson Queen) but as I said . . . You didn't mention that Ale was playing with a pick. I've only seen her do that one other time. I think that is the reason she seemed stiff in front of the camera. She was concentrating more on playing.

D, you are not the 1st one to detect 2 voices in this vid. There might be different explanations - and my theory is that the video itself is edited the way we dont see other girl singing (perhaps Pau) at some particular moments.

There was an Instagram post the day they recorded which showed Pau doing extra vocals seated in a chair of the stage left. I remember she was straining because she was frowning at the end of each take. Pau doing low vocals under Dany would be a strain, so maybe. For sure every sound is TW whether on a backing track, sung live or added after. Also in the Austin concert that TexanReacts filmed you can hear this vocal doubling in this song. I think Dany is using a pitch shifted lower octave doubler on her vocals on Animosity as part of the prearranged live mix

As always I respect your point of view but this time you spent more time explaining your scoring system than talking about the song. The taste for a song is merely subjective, you as a musician know and recognize things that I ignore but even with this knowledge your word is not law, and as I already said musical taste is subjective so your rating is valid and honest, this That's what I appreciate about your criticism. You are right there are many "critics" who only praise any song, I have stopped following those people and I only follow critics who support their criticism even though sometimes I do not share their opinion so I would ask you not to justify yourself anymore and spend more time analyzing the fine points of the songs. (Hopefully and it is understood because I use google translator)
