Bro... That "Lori? LOW-ri? I'll learn it when he becomes a Warrior" line had me dead. Aye... This show is dope. Informative, entertaining. Keep up the great work man.
Warriors will have to extend both though since Lauri is in an exiting contract and I’m assuming Kuminga might want a 140 million extension similar to Poole which I still think he hasn’t proven for it yet.
You have to make that trade if they want it. The fact that you thought or think Dunleavy has been bad shows your lack of knowledge. Teams don’t want to trade with the warriors. They are salty.
I thought I read they were trying to coordinate a 3-team deal? Jazz want Moody, JK, and 4 1st round picks. Lauri has 1 year on his contract, and if he doesn't resign, we lose him and our future after next season. Dubs don't want to lose that much, so they're trying to bring a 3rd team into the trade? Right? Might be possible.
@@patrickturk8957 How? Have you seen him play? He should've been getting a significant amount of Klay's minutes last year. He's a good defender with high intensity and a long reach, hits big shots, makes winning plays
@@taekim2378 that’s what im telling you. Who’s better over a 3 year span? Kuminga. I get that we need a center but it’s always better to keep the better player. And with Wiggins on the way out that is JUST what the warriors have done. Keep Kuminga.
look klay was awful when it was needed. 2 years ago against the lakers in the playoffs, last play in game when he missed all his shots. i dont see how its a big loss. not mentioning his poor demeanor, body language last season. defense also declined. lindy waters was actually more efficient from 3 than klay and defended better. about buddy hield, he is a streaky 3 points shooter. after klay, steph and dame, he is the next guy who can get real hot.
Steph, Wiggs, Dray, SloMo, Podz, TJD, Gui are the only players signed through the 2025 season. They amount to 130M with 57M space before hitting the luxury tax. They can definitely extend LM and JK.
@@slamandjam2maybe not. The Utah jazz want a deal similar to what the nets got for bridges. Bridges has been a fairly efficient 20 a game 3 and D wing the last two years, and the only player that the Knicks sent over was Bogdanovic. I think the main thing Utah wants is an absolute boatload of picks with no protections. Which is always risky to give up, even if you have team success. Cause nobody knows what is going to happen 6 years from now. So while it is probably more likely that we'd have to trade Kuminga, there's also a solid chance that a Markannen trade is Moody, GPII, Looney, and a thousand unprotected picks.
@@slamandjam2 likewise. Cause on paper, a trade of Lauri markannen for Moody, Looney, and four or five first round picks is entirely possible. If that happens, I'd expect us to try to trade Wiggins to free up more space and get a little draft capital so that we don't have a multiple year stretch without a first round pick.
@@slamandjam2 No, actually that is not an absolute. Its been recently stated they are not offering JK for Lauri. Actually they have said him and Wiggins are not being offered. Danny wants picks. Utah needs to tank for Cooper Flag. Lauri's not helping them tank, and his value will only go down from here. There will probably be a third team in the mix. GS is not getting the boost they need if they get Lauri and lose JK. You may see Podz, Moody, or Trace (Along with possibly Looney, and GPII) moved with a third team in the mix to get the picks Danny wants. From Lauri's perspective at 27 the best option for him is GS.
To answer the cap question, yes we CAN extend both Kuminga and player X. The question is just which tax line / apron we’d end up over. Once you hit that second apron is when you get hit with all of the big penalties which essentially just “locks your roster” where you’re at and the only direction you can move is down at that point
JK has been able to put up a consistent 20+ points for big stretches of the season as a 21 year old playing on a high level team and plays 70+ games. Markkanen has been sub 20 pts/game on tanking teams while playing 50-65 games, albeit great numbers in Utah. To me I'd rather have the athleticism and energy of Kuminga and get a rim protecting role player than Markkanen. In general we can't concentrate risk in one potentially amazing player. It has to be spread around. We don't know who is going to get injured, and who is going to actually step up and have a big year.
Dude is a career 43% 3 PT shooter on 15 PPG. Idk what Philly was doing with him but the Warriors could definitely find ways to use him to his full potential.
Dunleavy is playing the long game in 2027 the new nba TV deals kick in and the salary cap is going to spike up again amd the warriors don't have a single player with a long term contract
I don't envy his situation. On one hand, you want to please the fans with blockbuster trades yet on the other, you gotta save the franchise money from the tax man. It's hella expensive to be in the Bay.
@AthleticAlchemy could a package for Lauri looking like this work? What is your opinion Moody Wiggins Beekman And 2 first rounders + if needed cash considerations
3:37 I think you meant to say Nick Nurse. Nurse is coaching the Sixers and Doc's coaching the Bucks. As for extending JK, sure we can do it, but then you add re-signing Ingram or Lauri and the roster will get expensive again, which will limit what they can do next offseason
agreed. you can't send a potential all star for a player that is not a perennial all-star that would be a desperate overpay. You trade Kuminga in a deal for a top 15-20 player. Lauri is not that.
Laurie is a nice player but…You’re dealing with Danny Ainge and there’s no guarantee Lauri resigns with us after next year. I wouldn’t be mad at Dunleavy to look elsewhere
I met buddy in Freeport he came a long way from playing basketball with a milk carton as a hoop I’m proud of him met him in his home town of grand Bahama!
As a Sixers fan it was frustrating that Buddy didn’t get more minutes down the stretch especially in the playoffs. Buddy game has actually rounded out to where he plays defense and get’s to the basket easy when he’s ran off the arc and he still has underrated speed. He is just the type of player that needs minutes and a long leash to be able to get into rhythm. Philly fans wanted him back especially more than Melton, but after the McCain drafting and Gordon signing the writing was on the wall. Buddy also has a big complicated cap hit even for a resign.
Think it's because everyone wants that "splashy" super star name, and they think that just because the Warriors didn't get Paul George, somehow the Warriors are cooked? I'm honestly diggin how this is shaping up
Appreciate the shout Alch! I think I’m somewhat same boat where I’d be ecstatic if we got Lauri but the price would sting. I feel like there’s some desperation to get that home run move after missing out on PG and I just hope the FO isn’t working on desperation and short sightedness especially negotiating with a guy like Ainge. Negotiation 101 Utah would be selling high so not the best time to buy that stock. But hey I’d take our roster with Lauri against anyone in the league with the way with the way Mike has filled out the rest of the roster.
how are we improving our roster without making big splashes, only giving up draft picks and maintaining our youthful core, finding guys who fit into our system, sizing up modestly without breaking the bank, offloading cap burdens like CP3, finding a legitimate replacement for klay, at least offensively, and managing our cap space effectively? shit is bananas
Ehh, only problem is none of these moves put us on the level of OKC, Dallas, Minnesota, and Denver. Maybe Lauri puts us there if Steph gets back to top 5 level, but last year Steph was not that
@@lukeremsberg5796 of course! these moves don't make us a finals bound team, but, after a stressful, disappointing season, i'm seeing some light at the end of the tunnel...to the point about steph, you're right, steph was not HIM by any stretch, but, i think a lot of that can be attributed to steph being asked to be HIM night after night on sprained ankles and 35-40 mins of getting constantly smothered by two or three guys (pause). he's still a dog.
Markkanen has been on two teams before his current team. He was okay on those teams; but he wasn't the star he has become in Utah. I wouldn't elevate him to God status just yet. He could be a good thing for the Warriors; but the Danny Ange that I know doesn't give away talent. He will suck you dry and move on to better pickings. With the current draft of Post and trade for Waters, the Warriors are in good shape with the guys they have. I'd rather add Ingram than Markkanen. It would cost less.
Good question. If Kuminga takes another step up the performance ladder, his value will be pretty high. If. Laurie has availability issues. It will be real easy to make the wrong decision. It seems to me that thus far, the front office has been hitting doubles and triples this off-season. They didn't have a lot to work with - starting over the second apron and holding only one second-round draft pick. I wish I understood Wiggins better. Or at all. Guy can play at the all-star level! But he disappears. Hopefully the front office has a better read than I do and can factor that in.
If we can still get some consistent, fairly locked-in 2-way Wiggs... that goes a long way in solving our issues. Massive if, but we're building some depth rn
Great vid Alchemy! If they got Markkanen and kept JK, they could extend them. The only barrier is that they would undoubtedly be in the tax. They would have to be contenders in order for Lacob to do that
question is what are we getting in return? with how low wiggs’ value is right now, I would guess teams think the warriors have to attach a first round pick just for them to take in wiggins’ contract. hopefully, if that happens, the warriors at least get a decent role player back
@athleticalchemy There is no hard cap - teams have full bird rights to their rookie scale contract players. So, no matter who is acquired, they can always give a full rookie scale max to any of these players (usually the contract being based more on potential rather than current production). If the Dubs traded for Lauri, it would be to give him a max or near max as that's what he would receive in the open market in free agency. They would not trade for him if they didn't intend to extend his contract, and they wouldn't retain Kuminga, if they didn't intend to extend him as well. The addition of 2 huge contracts may put the Warriors past the 2nd Apron, but there will likely be several teams over that spending threshold by next season.
Man, I like how it's starting to stack togethr, can't help thinking what could've been if Clipps didnt snake us on that P.G. deal... think we'd still be going for Ingram?? That would be some squad! And prly the only way I wouldnt mind losing Kaminga tbh... then again Markenen's 50 games to J.K.'s 70 might be felt come post 🤔🤔
Alch do you think bringing in Stackhouse was also a way to put a battery in Wiggins’s back again? His best season was when Mikey B was still on the bench and when he left, then the inconsistency and long, unexplained absences started. Maybe Stack can unlock 22 Wiggins again and that’s part of what Dunleavy and Kerr is banking on
I think the 2 X factors here is Steve Kerr and Andrew Wiggins. Is Steve gonna let Kuminga ball out, or blackball him? If he doesn't want to let him shine then move him. Also what Andrew Wiggins are we getting? All-Star or head in the stars? He is the difference between fighting for play ins and western conference finals lock. Steph/Podz - Wiggs/GP2/Melton - Kuminga/Moody - TJD/Anderson - DRAY/POST/LOON. Spicy Death Lineup = Steph - Wiggins - Kuminga - TJD - Post
it's been easy and cathartic to shit on everything going wrong, but i have to give mikey D credit on these moves. i'm actually starting to look forward to next season.
Agree, Podz should be our backup ball handler tbh. Haven't heard many people say it but Moody would be nice to start at the 2 guard spot, provides defense alongside Steph and the consistent minutes would probably get his shooting right like we know it can be
I'm more excited about the coaching hires than buddy tbh. I don't think buddy hield does anything except get in moody and podz development. Def not giving up kuminga for Mark....if we trade away 4 first to get him, fine, but pick up mark and giving up kuminga is a lateral move at best.
Step and play will always be the best of buddies, this is nothing more than business, nobody angry at each other's,but that's what y'all haters say ,love you guys
Alc made a excellent point. By getting a star signing long-term, warriors probably would have no money left to extend kuminga. So the question is whether you believe JK will become a bonafide superstar when Curry is still here
The point about the coaching, now that Klay and CP are gone 👌🏾👌🏾 They can bench ppl as needed, won’t be pressured to play tiny guards together bcz of status…Kerr can just coach now! Aging legends can be really hard to deal with sometimes. Sad to say but It’s almost “addition by subtraction”
Thank you for always being a voice of reason amongst the fan base. So many other voices in the Dubs fan base operate on pure emotion. Your takes are always logical and well thought out. Lauri would be great but not for JK. Lauri not a top 30 player. You can't give up JK if you actually want to contend. And it doesn't make any sense to make the trade and give up all those other assets if you aren't going to contend now. Warriors have too many guards. Podz is the best option to send Utah in the trade
I think we can afford JK and Lauri. But we have to at least get Wiggins off the payroll. I like Wiggins, but his salary is the biggest chunk that we can realistically move someplace else.
I don't. I'm sick of Wiggins distracted attitude. He always acts like he is visiting. When he went MIA for 2 seasons he had no shame toward the fans or passion to explain to us how he felt bad to have left us not knowing, etc. It feels like he SNOWED THE GSW ORGANIZATION.....with his flim flam excuses, whatever. He gets paid too much to be "ambiguous" about why he was MIA. He annoys me. One good season out of him thats it.
i like how yall made steve kerr lord voldermort out here. a true villain. after everything he's done for this ball club. the amount of disrecpect yall have towards him is astounding.
If the Buddy thing does come through I have a question. Did the warriors finesse their way to the best bench in the Western Conference? I’m looking at it and that’s all I can make of it right now.
Besides a new buddy, we also need a new Lauri. The latest developments are good but it won't be enough with how deep the west is. We need a 2nd source of offense to spread the floor some more. IF Mike pulls off that Lauri trade without losing too much blood, I'll have a positive view of his tenure.
Lauri is a really nice player and his size and shooting could help Steph out but they should keep Kuminga that would make the roster title contenders if fully healthy.
We can afford to extend JK+Ingram or JK+Markkanen, yes. GP2 and Loon expire, the cap goes up, we go back into the tax a little higher than we are this year but stay below the 2nd apron, we can fit them unless they're both $40m a year.
I figured they'd sign Hield after losing Klay. But while they are making moves to replace lost pieces, they have lost the opportunity to sign some cheap centers that were available.
Right now he is a lot higher scorer night after night. Klay is up and down. If they keep JK and they actually get Markken it's a whole new very interesting ball game.
