Hi ryhs my name is Dean I watch u loads I'm a big fan .I only like fishing 1 fly but I do want to fish 2 flies a washing line set up wots the ideal flies for this
Love your work Rhys, I think I've watched all your videos now and they've helped my fishing enormously, thank you! With the second method in this video, would a sink tip pull the FAB under the water? Or it is meant to sit on the surface like a booby would?
Hi Brother, thinking of switching to fluorocarbon 15ft as you suggest mate. Do you use a tippet or fluorocarbon from fat casting line straight through to your fly, Cheers for top video DaveO 📹 👍
Hi Rhys, Great explanation thanks. For the method described how far apart would you place the droppers from the point fly? Targeting rainbows is not something I have historically done but been having a bash recently and would like to up my catch rate. Tight lines.
@@RhysFishes Thanks. Does casting become more challenging if droppers are placed further apart or is it solely length of leader that makes casting 'difficult'. I'm relatively inexperienced fishing this method so am stixking with 12ft leader for the moment.
Thanks great piece. Can you help pal taking me to clywedog in may says wait for beetles to arrive . Can you advise another method to combat his beetles plan plan please?
Hi m8 firstly as a new fly fisher I find your videos really informative. You talk about “the washing line “ here and you mention the Black booby. My apologies but the caption says “two jail bar “ flies. My apologies but I couldn’t catch the name you said exactly. ( and I’m from Scotland so can’t sconce anyone’s accent)😂 can you tell me the name please? Keep up the good work. Very informative m8👍
Hey, thanks for all the great videos. A little confusing thing for me is. 15ft leader but what about tippet. I get that you call tippet a leader but then does that mean you tie it directly to the line??? So what it is? Line + leader + 15ft tippet or no tippet and Line + 15ft leader??? Thanks again!
Tippet and leader are the same thing, just different terminology. So from the end of the fly line I have 15ft of fluorocarbon straight through with no tapering. The flies sit at 5ft intervals = 5,10,15ft. Hope that helps :)
Hi Rhys. Love the videos mate. Keep them coming! An idea… in all your vids, you’re always using a team of flies so you can cover more than one approach/depth/fly at a time (big advantage)… my local lake only allows single flies. Be good to see how you would approach that scenario to find the fish quickly. Cheers mate
Hi Rhys, I started watching your videos and found them very interesting, I fish wild lakes in Ireland for wild brown trout, I was speaking to a group of friends I was telling them about your videos as they are more into rainbow trout fishing then me. Now they are arranging a trip to clweydog lake which I am very much interested in going to in July any tips on flies and gear would be appreciated, keep up the videos Thanks Paul
Very interesting. I've been fly fishing my whole life and I really underestimated fishing in still water. Ps: 15ft leader, how often do your taper your leader?
Then you're in a minority. 15ft isn't even that long or difficult to cast with. Most beginners can manage that with a bit of patience and practise. Glad I got on your nerves, it's been a highlight this evening 🙂
@@RhysFishes i didn’t mean you personally…..i just find 99% percent of fly fishing videos are aimed at experienced anglers. No one actually show what mono there using and actually breaks it down just a little more. The sport is dying…if we dont try and show people how to fish then it’s over..
Are you Irish? And which area are you fishing usually ? My family is right next to lough arrow and I am there few times every year. Love the fishing there. The fishing in Germany except few spots is very poor and over fished.
Well done Rhys. Most waters I fish are single fly only. I understand that this is due to droppers not being tied properly and therefore fish swimming around with tippet and fly hanging out of mouth.
Tried the last method described, booby on point was just floating and not sinking, the blob was just below surface. How do you get the booby to sink? Cheers
Rhys, love your videos, also watch Lyndsey's. Notice right off that my flies are one to two sizes smaller than what you guys typically use, 10s on their way. Two points, first, what Fritz do you use on your fabs and blobs and second how about a demo tying a mop. Thanks.
Morning Rhys ☀️ Having coffee this AM, I realized that I do NOT know how you’d tie these Three flies onto the leader? Please advise ....... I sincerely appreciate Your time Rhys ✨🎣💫
Great video Rhys. I'm fishing Clywedog tomorrow. Weather isn't looking brilliant but who cares. I was there last week fishing the washing line set up with some good results. Hopefully I'll have 1 or 2 tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Rhys, your fishing videos are top notch, fished the washing line & the bung from your other video, landed 10 all in, delighted, watching that bung disappear is phenomenal! Thanks again mate 👍🏻
He should. Video quality is so high and educational. But his style of fishing is way too esoteric. Nobody here in the US does stillwater fishing for trout. This is very UK-type fishing. When I go to a magazine stand for fishing magazines here in CA, there are magazines specific to Stillwater...all published in UK (small market). The major US magazines for trout have very little info on Stillwater (1 in 50 articles?).
Fantastic tutorials thank you Rhys. I am new to this and need to ask whether the 15ft fluorocarbon leader you specify is direct to the fly line or you have a tapered leader in between.
Rhys, would you recommend 15ft of fluorocarbon as a minimum for these setups? Could you go shorter ? Sounds like a lot of leader on a 9’6” setup for me? Is it critical? Great video by the way, very informative 👍
Hi Rhys another excellent video thank you. I know you fish quite a few small stillwaters, do you always use flurocarbon for your leader regardless of whether fishing dries or nymphs? Can you recommend a flurocarbon and breaking strain for small still waters with pressured fish? Keep up the good work!
Thanks Joseph. Yes, fluorocarbon is all I use. Even on dries. It will work as long as you scale it down appropriately. Vision make a great all rounder fluorocarbon which I've been using the past few months. 6lb for dries/8lb for nymphs. Hope that helps!
Hi Rhys, loving the videos pal just started out and really getting into it. Normally I’ve been only using one fly and seen a few of your videos suggesting using more to test what level the fish are feeding but my problem is my droppers keep getting tangled on the line! 😫 any idea what I might be doing wrong? Cheers, look forward to the next one 👌🏼
Ensure your flies are spaced fairly well. If your used to fishing one fly, then step up to 2 flies, fished 6ft apart and ensure your fishing strong enough leader that it's helping your flies to turnover
@@RhysFishes Cheers , FYI I love fishing the washing line but I catch 80% of my fish on the blob or booby and wonder if it is even worth the hassle of fishing with 2 dropper flies sometimes , especially in a bit of a wind.
Great video. Very helpful. Can you recommend a good floating fly line? I have a forty plus fast intermediate that loads my rod nicely but I can't find a floating line with the same sort of power. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
