be good to get a reading the water/environment video. Seasons atm are ridiculous got a week of sun and 17/18Degrees out of nowhere when it's autm in a few days.
I’ve taken a bit of a break from RU-vid generally but there’s nuggets of info in many of the videos around how I interpret the conditions to find success, so have a browse and hope you find something useful
I use a homemade version compiled of fullers earth, glycerin, water and fairy liquid. Easy to make. I think Tim has a video on it if you need some pointers 🙂
Interested to know, would you fish top hat buzzers on a mono line rather than floro to keep them up in the water ? And would the same apply to shipmans buzzers? Many thanks !
Thank you for the kind feedback. I’ve taken long hiatus after getting married and having our first child. I’ll be back at some stage, just unsure when 🙂
Hi Rhys, Great vids, I am an older angler and probably slower to change. I'm having a awful time trying to fish late, dusk to dark. Big rise of fish, big hatches of green head buzzer 10 mm won't take adult, cdc, emerger, or suspender nymph, wild trout lake. Can hear a lot of sips and see many boils but only get the very occasional take. Its a chastening experience. My flies may not be the most exact but in the low light I don't think it should make a big difference 6/8lbs leader. Can you help.
It’s hard to decipher what’s going wrong without understanding more about your set up. What leader type and lb are you using, what type of fly size have you tried?
Was unfortunate you lost the footage on the other Scottish fisheries Rhys, hope to see more videos when life calms down a bit for you, your videos were always the ones that gave me the best buzz watching 🎣
This was great to see. My father taught me to fish at the age of 6-7yrs old. I still remeber my first brownie on the small streams up behind drwslwyn castle and i also remember hooking my forst "proper big fish" those memories dont leave you. I put my love of fishing totally down to my father teaching me all those years ago. The beauty of it is that i have taught all three of my elder sons and am now in the early stages of teaching my youngest who is the most enthusiastic by far. He is very much like i was....fishing mad. Hes already precision casting on the mepp at 9yrs old. We were out on the Tawe last weekend and although i beat him by 2 fish hes very quickly catching up. Dont believe in giving chances. The rivalry is real😅😅the plan is for him to surpass me just like i blew my old man out of the water. Its a blessing. That lad will never forget that moment. Well done Rhys.
I had a massive beautiful wooden box of rying gear and meterial which got left in the attic by accident in my last house move some years ago. I didn't realise where it was until it was too late. There was some moneys worth lost there😢i used to love experimenting with my own buzzer and nymph patterns and also tie some experimental sea trout patterns for after dark also. Once you get the basics down fly tying can be very relaxing and extremely rewarding when you find a pattern of your own that works really well. Your accent sounds very local to me Rhys. Are you from the gwendraeth valley by any chance? Just subscribed to your channel so there is much to watch. Going to see your videos in Garnffrwyd where i used to spend to many spring/summer and autumn evenings in the world of my own. Joyo😊
Yes great advice for buzzer fishing, especially about scaling down lighter. I only fish 5lb at Garnffrwyd fishery which is only 2mile from me. Ive been at that fishery when everyone is blanking and im slamming fish after fish on the middle peg😂😂all the old boys approaching me asking what im fishing😊gives me great satisfaction. There is one buzzer i tied many years ago that is super deadly at Garnffrwyd. Its a black buzzer with a very thin strip of holographic on the back covered with epoxy....i added a GOLD head and found that the big browns went absolutely nuts for this pattern up there. Ive had many big browns fishing the margins and deeper water with this buzzer. This is the one i always go to if i start blanking and others are also struggling around me. I used to fish there a few days a week about 10 or so years ago.....my record up there on a good evening rise is around 23-24 fish which was bedlam. Myself and my mate would often compete to see who could catch the most fish and the best quality browns. I should mention that i always fish my buzzers on an indicator, some may not like that but i find it super exciting watching the indicator dissappear under the waters surface. I have a great photo here somewhere of a 7 or 8lb brown that i stalked in the margins with that gold head black pattern i mentioned above. That was taken probable a good 15years ago. Great stuff.😊🎣
I know that feeling all too well. "THE ONE" that got away. Mine was a double figure sewin first light on a light fly rod, went under a log/stump and snapped me after 15-20mins of teying to nurse it in😢😢You literally dream about fish like that.
Rhys I hope you are enjoying life congratulations on both your marriage and becoming a dad. I hope that you still have some time to enjoy more fishing in the future. With as time and life allows returning to your channel possibly more collaborations with others such as Lindsay Simpson. Be it locally or further afield
Thanks for your interesting videos, since I have been watching your videos I have been catching a lot more fish at Farmor in Oxfordshire. Would like to see you do a video on sea trout fishing, I have had some big sea trout in Wales fishing at night, it sure gets the heart pumping.
What has frustrated me with RU-vid videos about fly fishing is they tend to show the fish being caught but don’t show the type or speed of the retrieve. Thank you. Your explanation is pure gold.
