But the stuff english boothill says makes more sense for censorship then baby. I meen at least here in the US (idk about other english speaking countries) it's actually common to say funny stuff like that instead of the actual cuss words.
En actually has the better translation in this case! In chinese, when people are trying to insult someone without saying the curse word, they use endearments to replace the curse word, or words that sound the same. Which, the latter they can't do in the case of censorship. So basically yeah Boothill's system automatically censors him from saying the f word to saying fudge or fiddlesticks. A bit like how you'd play a sound effect over a curse word in videos.
Genuinely curious on what do the EN localisers for this part. I get that why the "cursing" is more fitting of a cowboy, and wanting to go for a cringy line for Boothill, but going from a cringey English flirting to a cursing cowboy that doesn't even flirt is such a big contrast. Not to say it's bad in English, but it's quite a jarring difference.
@@annalise9011 Yeah, the lack of proper context here kinda makes it hard to tell if Bootbill was censored in other languages since these are recited by Aventurine in the programme. I had to check the Mandarin dub to know what was Boothill trying to say, and he was censored in this "adorable" way. The English just has a much better flexibility to censor the curse words than Mandarin do. The English one has done a great job to portray him as a potty mouth.
English is more versatile in terms of similar sounding words, but in the case of Chinese as far as I know, some people tend to replace curse words with terms of endearment for censorship it's strange but menacing if someone walks up to you and starts to flirt
the other versions aren’t trying to make boothill flirty. they’re all just using substitutes for swearing, since the english words don’t mean much to the target audience. the english version has to do it differently to achieve the same effect
Ok abt the pet names one. He is actually swearing in all of them unlike english, it is harder to replace the swear words in jp and korean. For CN, they usually filter themselves by replacing swear words with words like宝贝(baby). So technically english is more accurate. Tho to be honest, it would have been funny to hear boothill saying baby or honey when swearing
ALL LANGUAGE EXCEPT EN SLAYED AS ALWAYS edit: look, i get it. en has the most accurate localisation. but i still love the flirting edit 2: so the flirting acts like trying not to swear, which means my main point still stands
what's wrong with the en? I don't see anything wrong with it lol it was funny. I really don't get why people keep shittin on en dub when they also did a great job
The biggest issue here is just the massive difference in the phrase. Muddle fudger, son of a nice lady, is obviously an attempt at a PG swear where the others were attempts at flirting, so the meaning is wildly different. In general I like the EN VAs but there has apparently been a lot of instances where the localization complete changed meaning and tone.
@@04hinorinnnHonestly, I think this time we do need more context here since it might just be Boothill trying to curse, but due to the tinkering of Synesthesia Beacon forcibly change his lines, and only English can deliver the censored curse the best. I had to hear the Chinese OG first to understand the joke. They censored the curse with "Baby", or "Cutie", or "Meowing" in the Mandarin dub.
