Yes YES i Thank them today at Life Guard head quarters Newport Beach Pier ill be posting the Angelic Sunset from here Tonight On My Channel for all to enjoy
the skipper of the yellow rescue boat deserves a bravery medal absolutely impeccable observation and execution of boatmanship in treacherous conditions... a great example of calculated risk by a master skipper.
That yellow boat is the life guard boat and they have to rescue people like this about everyday somewhere in Newport Bch. I've surfed the wedge many times and it's no place for a jet ski or someone whoes not a really good swimmer.
Not only that but he started moving across the crest of the wave. First of all it was dangerous because there were body surfers there, but had he have turned his jetski and took the wave to the left he could have got out of the impact zone and gone back out to sea through a rip.
the wedge is a harbor they took a wrong turn on wrong day ,huge south ground swell..we all do stupid stuff .i put this squarely on the head of ski rental guy ..should have warned visitors to stay in harbor ..not everyone is from Newport ..geez !!
David Suzuki Ummm, there isn't a hint of racism in this thread. I'm guessing you don't know what kook means. But while I'm here, I'd like to make a couple of points. First, the christian scriptures condone racial slavery in both the old and new testaments. Second, christians can just ask for forgiveness and move past their errors, while us nonbelievers have to live with the consequences of our actions. I'd put my morality up against any christian, any day. Enjoy your weekend! Try sleeping in on Sunday and use the time you'd spend in church thinking about how you could help humanity. You may like it.
agreed... i wanna hear the bystanders comments such as "ummm wtf is that waverunner doing?", "that's not a lifeguard you moron", and of course "ohhhhhh shit"
Excellent video. Great capture. Those two on the jet ski are very lucky to be alive. They put all those lifeguards at risk. They should be very thankful. What a stupid move they made.
Brilliant video and excellent choreography. Couldn't imagine thinking I was getting close to the harbor entrance to look back and see Leviathan behind me. Great work!
When you get a side wave merge with the main wave, you get a spot where the two waves meet, the result is a bigger triangular section. The side wave is formed by wave energy bouncing off the sea wall, watch the waves, you'll see what I mean ;)
I’m an ER & COVID unit nurse. Do you know who my heroes are? Lifeguards! It would be an honor to work along side them........on land. I got goosebumps when I saw their response times and the number responding. They are like police, fire, physicians, EMS and dolphins 🐬 all wrapped into one.
When he came past us one head had to dive under him. It was bad all around. It felt unreal. They came from deep cylinders, had we not been spread out from the first two waves of that set...Mikes camera picked up a good angle of how close.
Ok so the only possible explanation for this is the guy thought he was already in the channel to the marina at Newport Beach? He gunned it when he saw the big set approaching and then panicked when he finally realised he was in fact west of the marina jetty before getting mown down by the first wave?
As I watched this incredible rescue and the lifeguards attending to the victims on the beach, I kept wondering: where is the lifeguard mobile backup response with oxygen and pre-hospital care equipment? Were they short of emergency units that day? I am a former southern California lifeguard who used to body surf the wedge and I know that Newport Beach has the equipment it needs to respond to this type of emergency. So where was the backup response, once they got the victim on the beach. They should have been waiting on the beach with all the necessary emergency equipment, but that never happened. Why?
You're digging on them for not having equipment there within seconds of them being on shore? It's not economically feasible to stock, maintain and secure that equipment at every tower. The truck was there within a couple minutes. It was a very busy flag weekend with almost 300 rescues in Newport.
To the girl on the back of the PWC: RUN away from any man who takes you into trouble like this, then swims to save himself when things go south. Your future with such men is no bueno.
I figured out what this guy was thinking, he thought that was the entrance to the New Port boat docks one jetty further south! That's all I can think of by the way he drove the jet ski so far near the jetty.....kinda crazy.
I had to go in for a jetskier once.. went into a pier after drinking, his leg was on the wrong way round... jetskiers are mostly tools in my experience . Thanks .
Things look a lot different from low on the water. He probably couldn't distinguish the harbor entrance due to the visual complexity of the rock jetty.
curious what the guy/girls explanation is for this (feel free to share a link if you've seen an interview). The only possible explanation I can think of is they saw the big waves crashing over the wall from a distance and thought it was a lil canal into the harbor, then the guy figured he'd punch it thru despite the waves only to realize there is no canal to go thru, then he goes into panic mode
I was on that beach in 1970. waves weren't tht big. no jetsk's and the boards were 10 feet long I was 18 y/o and body surfed have never been slammed so hard. if it weren't for the fins I would have died . barley made it back to beach as we used to say it was far out.
Maybe the pump was picking foam not water preventing thrust from being achieved...not sure it looked like a very unwise decision to gun it going to the rocks
I'm with dailymail.com. We're wondering if you'd be okay with us using a portion of this video in our player? Please email nyvideo@mailonline.com for more info. Thank you!
This happend to be the couples first date off tinder. The Jest ski rental, told him NOT to go over there. Do you think she went out for a second date with this clown?
Kooks for sure. (And kooks come in all shapes and sizes and shades) As a so cal native, watching this is just more proof of the pure stupidity of tourists in the ocean. I'm so grateful for lifeguards- they are truly under appreciated. I dated one for over 6 years- watching some if the things they can do is unreal.
Newport guards are among the best paid civil servants in the country. They're not under appreciated. If I had it to do over, I would've stuck with Jr. Guards and try to get hired. By now I'd be making a couple hundred grand a year with a great tan and a line of beautiful women following me around.
lesson - dont go near rocks just because the wall of whitewater is 3 feet smaller there. but hey, no one can judge here. you only learn the nature of the ocean by going thru a series of events like this. i hope those people are ok.
christopherwgcg pretty much everyone now days calls a jet powered personal water craft a jet ski. Since you want to get technical, are you sure that's a waverunner and not some other kind of pwc? Wave runner is not a type of watercraft it's just a model made by Kawasaki, you wouldn't call a seadoo or a Yamaha a waverunner
