Love Smart home Automation, one of many things I can't live without 😁. Love the look of the dimmer switch. I use one Brand for my entire house for aesthetics consistency. Love it. I use Zwave protocol technology for most of my switch for better connectivity (if my network shutdown my lighting still works 💯%.) And some WeMo Wi-Fi switch.

I replaced six switches in my house with the 1st gen wemo smart switches & the wirk well. A bit of a pain to connect to wifi at times. I tried their dinner in bedroom but found it didnt work well at all with a ceiling fan/light. Also found their dimmer did not work properly at all only to find out through extensive online research & talking to Belkin that the switch only works with specific bulbs(a lot of which were discontinued or not available anymore)so i returned that switch and went with a Leviton Apple HomeKit dimmer which worked flawlessly! Also hate the fact I have to buy a seperate hub to hook them up to Apple HomeKit(1st Gen switches only). Why cant they just do a software upgrade to make it compatible. Good video Brett!

Brett I just got finished watching your Wemo light switches review, it was so very helpful. I recently purchased a Wemo switch for my front porch lights to turn on and off automatically, was thinking about getting another one to control my couch lights on the outside of my garage, it is on the same circuit. When I turn the power off to that circuit will I have to reconnect my original Wemo that I had set up for my porch lights? Thanks for the helpful content and looking forward to more!!

When there is a power outage and then the power comes back on, do the switch remember its last state? Meaning if you had the lights off, does it stay off and vice versa?

Hi Brett thanks for the video I change mine light switch today. I don't know what happened but it's not working. The switch turn the lights on and off but there is no blinking at all. Can you please help me?

at 10:40, when you wired it wrong and it was only turning on from one location and not the other, which wires did you swap in order to make it work? The 2 travellers or line/traveller? Thanks in advance

can the dimmer switch turn my lights on at 1% brightness and increase to 100% over a 30min period at a specific time Monday to Friday to help wake me up.

The wemo smart plugs were some of my first smart home devices many years back. Glad to see wemo still producing products! Small suggestion, get yourself some screwless wall plates. They are a little bit of money but make those decora smart switches (and outlets) so much cleaner looking.

That is a great idea! I just use some with the Lutron switches I put and they look really nice. Just a little scared I will break them if I need to take them off.

@@TechWithBrett The Lutron Claro are pretty sturdy. I've pulled many off several times and have yet to break them. They do cost a little more and show a seam (which I like, makes it look cool in my opinion) compared to Legrand or others.

Now, can you have 2 or 3 different phones controlling the wemo switches? Or can it only be installed on one smart phone/tablet?? If you can .... how would you go about programing multiple smart phones?

Hi ! actually wemo just recently transition to WEMO Account, as long as you have an account, you can used different handheld devices, you can control your wemo devices wherever you are. Just login to your account.

Pretty sweet. I've been wanting to get my hands on some Wemo product too. I love that it plays with all the major players. BTW: you missed a homekit censor at four zero nine. Not a big deal, I don't think people can use it while it's been used elsewhere but I always sensor mine too.

Do you have to use special bulbs to use the dimming switch? Or can I just get a regular wifi switch and have Alexa turn them on at a particular percentage of brightness? I'm trying to DIY this

You need to have lights that are dimmable. Not sure it will work if they are not that way.

The bbmoth have many features but I like that the WeMo has a standard type of click and easily connects to Wifi without a hub.

Hi Brett, thanks for posting this. At around 10:40 you mention it was not working for you correctly and you could only turn the switch on/off from one location. I have the same issue. I used my voltage tester to find the line/load and believe I combined all the proper wires for travelers, ground and neutral. Do you recall which wires you swapped to make it work?

Yeah it shouldn't have a problem as LED lights are supported.

yes ! but you can just install one WeMo Light switch (it's enough) and keep the other regular switches installed you can save more money for this.

Hey Brett, or anyone here, would this type of setup work with motion sensors? If so, how would it be done and with adding the motion sensor feature to most rooms in my house be overkill?

Hi ! actually WeMo has there own, motion sensor. Model #: F7C028 you can associate this with other wemo devices, like if there is a motion sense then a light or a music will turn on, as far as I know this will not work with different brand of motion sensor. WEMO for WEMO in this case.

Great tutorial on using the Wemo app. Not sure if you are still monitoring this particular post. If you are, I'd love to ask you some questions. I have two of the Wemo smart plugs and have had many problems with them which makes me leery about upgrading to any of their smart switches.

Hi Brett, i'm really enjoying your content, and have subscribed to your channel. I have both Alexa, and Google home. I live in an apartment, so don't have the flexibility to install devices like a home owner would. With that said, I've added a few things such as Amazon smart plugs for the lights in the bedroom. What I am curious about though is: while I may not have the ability, or authority to install switches or dimmers into the walls, can i get sockets that dim for the lamps directly? the kind that go into the lamp socket, then you put the bulb into the smart socket, or better yet, are there bulbs that come with a built in dimmer ? I have the echo plus 2nd generation with the built in Zigby hub, a regular Google, Home, and an echo Dot 3rd generation. So, with Zigby, it's supposed to help eliminate the need for a separate hub Was just curious on your recommendations. Will tell you, my plans are to use Alexa for automation, and Google home mainly for entertainment. Thanks again.

Awesome little setup! I would definitely recommend getting a Sengled light Bulb for the lamp. They are very inexpensive and have dimming capabilities. @@TechWithBrett that's really cool. So not every switch needs to be smart on a 2 way system. That's kudos to wemo. Can you tell wemo to make these for the UK market based on our wiring.

@@TechWithBrett UK wiring, we don't generally have neutral wiring in our light switches. Unless it's a new build. So I don't think this would be possible,we'd need a hub

I have two black live wires on my Kasa switch but only one black live wire in my wall. What should I do with the extra black wire from the Kasa switch? It's 3 wires in total that comes from my wall (the copper ground wire, a single black wire, and a single white wire,) I do not have a bunch of wires bundled up in my wall. I only have the 3 wires in the wall, black, copper, and white. But 4 wires on the Kasa switch 2 black live wires, 1 green for copper, and 1 white for neutral. When I tried connecting both live wires from the Kasa switch, to the one single black wire coming from the wall, it does not work. My light comes on very dim and it's NOT a dimming light. And, the Kasa switch makes a clicking sound that won't stop when I try to reset it. The same thing happens when I leave the extra black wire hanging from the Kasa switch. Do I tie connect the extra black live wire from the Kasa switch to another wire from the wall like, to the ground or, the white wire? Or, maybe the black and white wires in the wall are both live wires and I don't have a neutral 🤔. I hope that ain't the case. Please help me.

How doni go about adding 20 or so wemo switches and plugs doni need to to it one by one ? Even tho they are wired in at the same time? And how do I add them to Google home, also how can I have google hime and wemo on 2 separate phones one tablet and two google home hubs? What to configure first...?

If possible you might one to set up one at a time. If not, you will just have a bunch of Wemo devices showing up as wifi networks. You will then set them up one at a time and run around your house till you figure out which one you are setting up. They will all link to your Wemo account and using can just sign in on the second phone to have access to them. Once you link Wemo to the Google Home app all of your Google speakers will have access to control the lights.

You show single switches with single face plates. At the end, you have a 3 gang face plate. I’d like to use Wemo but I can’t find those face plates. A number of mine are 2 gang.

I was able to easily load the new Smart Switch and the 3-Way Switch. I couldn't get the Dimmer Switch to show in SmartThings.

Is the neutral wire a new home thing?? I have literally never seen a neutral wire in a light switch. I bought and gave away a wemo switch because I didnt want to call a electrician to run a neutral wire. I have always had older homes however.

Great video! But just a heads up. When removing the wiring from the old switch. Don’t just use pliers and pull the wire. The switch should have little prongs in the back that you push to release the wires. That way you don’t strip any of the existing wiring.
