After being mauled by the Grizzly, he still has the kindness to see that others have difficulties worse than himself; "Always was in good shape and active. I have a good life, lots of people have it far worse than I." Wes Perkins. More;"...They don't do tongue transplants yet, I can taste some," he wrote, "and smell a little. Smell will be better after surgery, I hope. Life is good." Wes Perkins (cont.) ~ What a strong, caring, tough, amazing Man!!!!!!!
@@bazza12121 Always a pleasure to meet a fellow Grateful DeadHead!!!!!! Especially when they live in another continent. It shows how far the love of the Deads Music has traveled through the many years!!!!!
My God, Wes, you are brave! As are your friends. I looked at your photo when you were waiting for the helicopter and your determination to live by heal and move forward with your life is humbling. Blessings
Wes, sir if you ever read this I take my hat off to you. I was mauled in 2016 while hunting. With similar injuries mine were not as severe. I had good people with me and the subsequent rescue was miraculous to say the least . My doctors in Denver Colorado I would recommend to you. I have a new nose and reconstructed face. I can eat normally just smaller bites. I speak ok cannot sing anymore tho. cause of time with a trach. God be with you friend. Hang tough
@@Englandforever11 If humans throughout history thought like you, there would not be humans. YOU are only here because your ancestors had the balls to kill predators.
After going through all that terrible physical trauma, I’m really impressed with his will to keep going and sharing his thoughts. And his speech is understandable. He must have had good doctors too.
There's a video of him with his face ripped apart where the other dude is like "Alright, we gotta get out of here." and Wes says "We gotta keep our heads cool", and makes other jokes as his face is ripped open and bleeding everywhere Absolute balls of steel
I saw the video of his face right after the attack before he went to the hospital, and I hunted this video down because I NEEDED to know how the man was doing now and if he survived. I'm so happy to find this, and see that he looks so much better than I thought he would look. He had... no face at all. I am beyond words at the skill of his surgeons and medical team. What an incredible story. I'm so sorry this happened to you, Wes, but know that your spirit and personality still comes through! You are amazing and inspirational and clearly a very loved man.
Why can't someone help this guy build a new jaw I know it can be done he's been the enough... ** after I wrote this comment I went to see the original injury photos and the Dr did an amazing job reconstructing his face that was much worse then I expected***
This is scary because it brings back a memory of me in kashmir getting chased by a bear down a valley. I only escaped when I slipped n fell off a small cliff edge n landed on the floor Injured but I escaped
Incredible story of hope, courage and bravery. Inspiring and humbling as well. Reminds us of how fragile human beings are but also how resilient we can be. Keep your head on a swivel and be well sir!
@@wildlyunrulyadventures3942 Hunt those who spread Corruption in the Land NOT those mighty Tough 🐻 they are pretty Sacred Animals they need to be revered
I cut the end of my middle finger off in a horrible saw accident about a month ago, and its left me a different man. While im very happy i didnt hurt myself worse, the trauma was still a lot to get through, and to be honest im still getting over it. To see people like this, it makes me emotional, yet proud and happy to see how well we as human beings can overcome and survive such traumas, and the advancement of modern medicine and surgery also never ceases to amaze me.
@@mollysteel142 - I agree entirely. The only reason that one of these creatures should be killed, is if they have killed and eaten human flesh, which makes them extremely dangerous. Other than that, leave them alone, stay a safe distance away, or even better still, stay out of their territory.
@@koezuna - Thanks for the info. I guess it depends on where you live and the hunting regulations. - - Me? I want nothing to do with bears of any type. Live and let live, but that is my feeling.
I live in grizzly country , I had them right by my house It is the most incredible story I ever heard. Mr Perkins you are on of a kind courageous man Thanks to share your story
Thanks for sharing your story with us Wes, and I wish you all the best for the future. I can’t imagine what it would be like to walk through a forest knowing that at any moment a Bear could attack , glad we don’t have them in 🇬🇧
What an amazing man you are Wes. Your story is an example of someone with a huge heart. I’m so glad you’re doing better. I live in Montana and hunt the backcountry. I know so too well how dangerous bears can be. Thanks for sharing your incredible story. God Bless you brother.
what a amazing story of hope and bravery on the part of everyone. your courage and recollection of this horrible incident in your life is awe inspiring and it brings hope for others, im sure of That.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Wes and I wish you and your friends all the best. I can’t imagine what it would be like to walk through a forest knowing that at any moment a Bear could attack . I am glad to we don’t have Bears in the UK🇬🇧 . I love your country , your very lucky to live where you do ,but I am sure you know that already. Don’t take any notice of the anti hunting posts they’re all hypocrites who get their meat from industrial farming as cheap as they can with no regard for animal welfare.
The will to not only live, but to thrive! I am very impressed by the strength of Wes, during the attack and all these years working on recovery and still finding time to help others! A very fine person, an example of how to overcome adversity! A modern day mountain man! Thank you for sharing your inspiring story! I wish him and his family the very best in the future!
Amazing story. I’m so glad he was able to survive and all three of them lived !!! I think having the snow to immerse his wounded areas in was very helpful. Such good luck to have a helicopter there fast enough to save him. . Boy is that bear huge.
Mr. Perkins is so incredibly brave, strong. He survived an attack from a grizzly bear and he is optimistic about himself, about life, even when he became disabled because of the attack. This gentleman has such an amazing character, he should be a role model for all the people who go through traumatic experiences in life. Hats off, sir !!!
One has to stay positive. I could sit home and fell sorry for myself, but what would that sole. I have lots of life to still live and I plan to do just that.
he actually spoke better right after the attack, it's incredible... he was also cool as a cucumber. this is one of the most amazing stories, glad he made it. you'd never think he'd look that normal again.
Wes, glad you made it, you have a positive attitude. Thanks for sharing your story. This could have been any of us Alaskans, and certainly me. Nice Bear rug mount. They are a Mighty and Majestic Beast. . Glad your a Survivor.
After coming upon the uncensored video of right after this guy's attack, I'm glad he survived this, incredible how much a human face can be rebuilt from that.
Wow my gawd what a terrible experience for these men. What a remarkable gentleman who survived to bring strength to someone like me. Thank you Sir for helping me to stop complaining and move forward with strength. Love and light to you and yours.
Found this from a message board on 4chan, one of the comments after they said he lived and posted his picture was "wheres the wheelbarrow for his MASSIVE balls?" Unreal how calm he was. Talk about the measure of a man, or for that matter mankind. The sheer will, the spirit, don't bother measuring yourself against this man, you WILL come up lacking!
I wish more was added to this story. Wes endured so many surgeries. Luckily they had a ham radio and were able to contact his brother Nate. Nome is a small town so anyone asked to help was ready to help. These guys are some of the very best.
There is a reason why the species is named horribleus. The part that impresses me is, that the man has not let this ruin his life, or drive him away from the area where the bears live.
Exactly, all due respect but, to me that was throwing caution in the wind. What a sad terrible thing to happen and my heart goes out to this gentleman but, the bear was not at fault.
Looks like this happened in Council? I grew up on White Mountain and my grandma grew up in Council. Tough guy and an inspiration in regards to will and never giving up.
Glad Wes survived. Amazing how grizzlies can be friendly, indifferent or dangerously hostile. My bear encounters near Nome were friendly. But one should never approach, entice or antagonize a bear.
Wes if your reading this Friend I want you too know you sir are an amazing man I take my hat off to you.. Do not fret for life is too short enjoy your life and you have amazing ppl with you. Your stronger than I with a great outlook on life. You will be just fine god bless you from the bottom of my heart!👍🏻💓
Glad Wes survived. I lived in Alaska 37 years, shot about a dozen Bears, a couple of those were in self defense. But there's no guarantee for a safe outcome even when armed and head on a swivel...
It is truly a miracle of modern surgery that they were able to fix his face after how badly it was mangled. The picture after his attack is not for the faint of heart.
Seems to me the animal kingdom is becoming more aggressive as are humans in cities and such he's a tougher man than me coming back from that injury..... amazing.
What a survivor and a strong man. I don’t know how I would feel looking at that bear hanging up on my wall everyday but it’s kinda a hey look bear I’m alive and you ended up on my wall🙏
