those of you who don't play guitar can't appreciate how much ingenuity, effort, and expertise Paul put into this incredible performance to pull this off with all the capo changes in one song.
I had to try the moving capo, too much of a break without backing, so I tried keeping it on just 4th or 3rd fret , then no capo, tried with various chord voicings, tried other keys too, just doesn't sound quite right without the open strings ringing. Look's like I need to get one of those Greg Bennett gliding capos or just not put this song in my repertoire, my voice isn't really suited to do even a half way decent job on this one anyway. I've seen more than a few of your videos over the last few years, your wife and you always do a fantastic job, thanks for putting them up.
I wonder if the hassle of dealing with moving the capo was the reason Jethro Tull never really played this live, other than an instrumental version that featured Martin Barre. At least I don't think they did. And it was a very popular song on the radio when it was released. Maybe a double neck acoustic guitar with capo's positioned in different places on the two necks would do the trick.
You guys really are remarkable. Marcie - from one piper to another, you've got to learn this on a penny whistle to really give it the lilting Gaelic energy it needs. Though, I enjoyed this performance and often wondered what it might sound like on a modern flute.
fabulous Paul. It is time for Jethro Tull to hire you as their lead singer. If we want the legacy to continue for the masseso to appreciate the musical talent and songwriting ability of Ian Anderson he needs to step down and let you take the lead. I am sorry Ian but you are not what you once were and it is time to let your ego take a back seat. Yes Ian, you were incredible, but it is time to let go. If this were to happen, Martin would come back
@@richrol58 Just noticed that I never finished the reply to this! Sorry! Anyway... yes, two different whistles. Despite the fact that it appears Ian uses only one in his video... I do not believe that it is actually possible. Marcie's using a flute here, of course, which is a lot more nimble for key changes! In my video of it, I do actually use the two different whistles, although it's difficult to tell from that distance.
westrokker Hi there and thanks for your comment. There is a key change in the song and the capo slide made it easier to play the chords in the different keys.
