It's not Nexus's place to decide what mods are and aren't allowed if they're legal and not everyone who installs a mod uses it for the same or even intended reasons. To be honest, I find the whole idea that mods need to be policed by the host absurd, but especially when it's selectively policed. If race swap mods are wrong, then get rid of all of them... But this means a lot of mods in Skyrim and Dragon's Dogma and Baldur's Gate 3 will also need to be removed. It's a self-inflicted problem.

I stand by that as long as a mod doesn't break any sort of law, lets say making underage girls perverted in some way, giving a game rpe mechanics, or something legit deplorable. Changing someone's skin colour is not a crime or break a law in the slightest. With regards the rainbow flag thing. I had no issue when I played half of Spider-Man on PS4. A few years later, I was playing on PC and they really irritated me so I removed them. Why? Was it because I had suddenly turned into a bigot in my late 40's? I don't see why any mods, no matter what they remove or change, should be removed, because if someone doesn't like the mods, there's no one to force them to use them. Also, Netflix Ciri and Black Geralt for The Witcher 3 are still on the Nexus and no one seems to have a problem with that.

kind of ridiculous to ban mods when the whole point of them is to change games to suit players. I value freedom over everything, and I stopped supporting Nexus after that. I kind of regret donating so much to mod creators there because I know money probably ends up with them as well. its the same regret I had for donating to Wikipedia once I realized just how malicious they were in choosing what they considered reliable sources. Whether you want to change every flag in a game to rainbow flags, or remove them entirely, I don't care. Diversity and inclusivity has just become a byword for authoritarian behavior to control which opinions are allowed and which are considered taboo. I never downloaded these mods, but I think people should be free to use them if they want to. Besides, the addition of a black character in Ragnarök is just so out of place that it is undeniably something they forced in there to create some diversity. its the very best example of a token black character, since it makes no sense whatsoever. If they had added in some storyline about an African god who travelled all the way there and then showed up in the story, perhaps added some background and quests for them, it would have been interesting and would have made sense rather than just race swapping someone from NORSE mythology. adding a mod to swap their skin color to keep the sense of immersion seems fair enough to me. I think its not worth the effort, but if some people are willing to do so, so what? it isn't hurting anyone.

Nexus mods thinks they are the arbitrators of mods. To changing out a character that does not fitt a seting. From a black viking to a white one that made sense, there where no black vikings nor any black gods in nordic mythology, I know this because im swedish and all the arcological rests from people of that time, where all white, due to bone structure you can tell, also all the old gods where white, or mosters, no black gods at all. It is odd that they what to filter mods by polical lines. That cannot be good for the platform and it will direct traffic away from Nexus mods to other mod places. Angrboda, being a character of myth, isn't really a historical person, no more than the little mermaid is. I don't think race swapping Ariel is appropriate either (when she was explicitly described as being pale skinned in the book) but it's not quite as egregious as, for instance, making Ann Bolin black in a historical documentary. It's still culturally insensitive, however. If I had some sort of nordic heritage, I would be pretty offended at how my culture was being misrepresented. I would see it as something akin to creating a character based on Baron Samedi, and portraying them with a white actor. If there was some legitimate artistic reason for it, that might be different, but it's clear the choice to make Angrboda black is obviously insincere, and politically motivated. There is no legitimate reason, either narrative or historical, for that character, in that setting, to be black. Even if she is supposedly a shape shifter who can make herself any color she wants, if her goal is to disguise her nature to blend in with humanity, why the heck would she choose to disguise herself as black person in ancient Sweden? How many norse in that era would have ever seen a black person before? Not a solid strategic move there. Frankly, she'd probably appear less conspicuous if she just left herself in her natural Jotun form. It's clear she's only black so her creators can tick diversity check boxes. I can't say this really offends me. I'm not nordic so it's not my culture under attack here and it's not my place to get outraged on their behalf. My opposition to it is simply that the anarchronistic inclusion of a black person in a story set in this location and time period, defies credulity and breaks immersion for me. I see something that very obviously doesn't fit in with the setting, included for insincere reasons that don't support the game's aesthetic or themes, and I stop seeing the art for what it is. I am instead forced to see the liberal white girl with pronouns and a septum piercing wagging her finger and lecturing me on how "white and male is stale" or whatever. It pulls me right out of the story, and kills suspension of disbelief right then and there. They might as well dress the character up in a banana costume and have her do a song and dance about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, that's how immersion-breaking it is for me. I can get reimmersed eventually, if the rest of the game is good enough, and the annoying character isn't on screen for too long, but the game is better when there are fewer of those jarring moments. I suppose if the devs still want to do it, then whatever, but the desire to mod this crap out of our games isn't racism, and people shouldn't be villainized for it. It's about integrity.

I honestly didn't care much until I found out Sweet Baby was involved with Sony, pretty much all first party Sony games are now injected with SBI, the upcoming Wolverine game developed by Insomniac also has SBI's consultant in it. I'm boycotting anything made by Sony these days, I haven't bought anything since Ragnarok's release, and I already sold the disc, there's no way I'm giving Sony more money so they can waste it on stupid agenda, the entire SBI business was built on threats and "blackmail", and Sony encouraged them by hiring them, while Game Science rejected SBI and now they are swimming in a pool of money, their first debut title into the triple a market made them nearly one billion dollars, reject DEI, and you shall drown in money too.

Nexus has been like this for ages now. There are just too many who are indifferent and even for some of those that do care they prioritize the convenience of Nexus mods even more. I haven't been on there in awhile but from what I can remember many of their top creators were probably in lockstep with this kind of censorship. I doubt anything is going to change in the immediate future but it's apparent there is somewhat of an appetite for an alternative. Will it be enough to take Nexus off its pedestal? No.

I remember when seeing Ragnarok, I first hoped that Angrboda simply looked that way because she is a jötnar and so maybe they have a different range of phenotypes than the aesir and vanir, but then we saw the human form of hildesvine and look at that, he also looks subsaharan african, and yet none of the aesir do. So then the whole thing was clear.

Nice, haven't heard the music from Final Fantasy 7 in ages. Also Nexus Mods has on their site "We reserve the right to host, or not host, whatever content we want on our own site. We do not want to host mods that remove diversity from a video game." Last I checked removing a mod designed to lighten skin color is doing the same thing by removing options that increase diversity as you are not forced to use it and it only adds an option, not a replacement.

is there an alternative, frankly i dont mind going to competitors if they offer all mods. the pride frag remover was kinda pointless, but i would like to have a white Angrboda, not because i'm the R word. just in the spirit of modding. there was also Mod to swap Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West with an Asian DLC character did they remove that one as well? otherwise the rule just looks like you can change any character to any race but white.

People often dont think about it from the perspective of a company. If you rely on ads or investment from some companies to run, you HAVE to abide to their demands. It is not like everyone has Elonk Musk parents, or Trump Parents, to make a donation of billions of dollars for you to start a business, and if you fail, there is another check coming. The root problem is not the companies, but the idea that freedom for freedom sake is something to be celebrated. You might not like to know it, or you might be naive enough not to know it, but all this stupidity of pronouns and etc was created when YOU made your society about freedom first, meaning and responsibility later.
