I used to fly fish at Roger’s trout farm in Kent (UK). We’d spoken a few times before when I was fishing. One morning he turned up in his golf cart wearing just a fluffy white dressing gown and he’d made me a cup of tea. What a legend this guy is. Still fish there from time to time and he always stops to say helllo to everyone
If you check this out. When they announced that the who will be doing the half time show. Jaden Rose of ESPN said that he never heard of them and they are to old. People don't know who this band is. And then he started naming a bunch of rap artists ha ha sorry I laughed they call them artists 😂😂 when it's not music. But I was watching him saying this. He said nobody is going to watch the half time show. He is one of the biggest racist I have ever seen on ESPN. Am not a liberal I don't say everyone is racist. But saying what he said and not one person he said to do the show was a white person. But I wish I could have seen his face when all those young people were singing with THE WHO and Pete Townshend.
@@steveb796 Well, afro-americans started rock as we know it (through blues). But there's no too much afro bands that plays rock nowadays. Only band I know is Black Pumas.
Yes. Since this magnificent display the standard of enterainment at Superbowl has nosed drastically. This band out of west London cirka 1963 was the pinnacle !
stones were ok too werent they? at least some rock and not fake music. obviously im not talking about the who’s music. they far from fake. meant other genres
We have to remember that The Who were there at the very start of the history of `rock music. Seeing a high tech performance in the twenty first century by this band who are still icons is amazing. I remember as a kid in the 1960's being told such music was a "passing fad" that would soon be over. Sixty years on and it is as strong as ever.
Very well said. Marshall amplifiers became what they became sonically specifically because Pete could not compete with Keith Moon with what he had and asked Jim Marshall to hook him up with gear that could. The famous "full stack" configuration came about because before that, the company produced a single 8x12" cab for Townsend's use but the roadies rebelled. :) Pete said that when you cranked that amp it sounded like a "symphony."
THE WHO were the first band to use lasers in their shows. I saw THE WHO 5 TIME'S AND MY EARS ARE STILL RINGING AND I FUCKING LOVE IT. THE GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER EVER OF ALL TIME. THE WHO.
Couldn't agree more! Seen them 4 times now, the last time was in Berlin 20th June 2023, so a week and a bit ago, and they were brilliant! Our younger daughter lives in Berlin, so we combined a visit to see her, with the concert. Our daughter said afterwards that she knew every single word of the Quadrophenia excerpts, because when I used to drive her and her sister to school "Quadrophenia was the only thing you played in the car!" 😀- Brainwashing does work 😂😂👏👏
Zak is by far the best drummer they've had since we lost Keith. Nobody else has been able to nail it just right... Zak does. Dude is a crazy talented drummer!
@@guitar.forbeginners.withdave I like all the post-Moon drummers in the Who but I was a Simon fan long before his time with the band so his presence was special to me. I just wish they hadn't started pushing bassists and drummers into the darkness like sidemen after John died.
@@bobhope3716 He was definitely the *most capable* drummer they ever had but I can see where people might think Simon was just too much. I was a big Simon fan long before his time with the Who and knew of his playing on Pete solo albums (his performance on "Give Blood" from WHITE CITY was drumming goalz for me back in the day).
The fact that they can still rock out live like this is amazing, sure, they could just lip sync but somehow the realness of this makes this even more awesome!
I was 15 playing drums in the support band for The Who at Bath Pavillion in 1967. Seeing this now brings it all back. This performance best I’ve seen. Amazing.
10 Shillings On The Door, No Hassle Strait In, Great Memories of Bath Pavilion 60s& 70s , Also Bristol Hippodrome 69.. Glad We'v Survived The Decades, Decided Not To See Them At Badminton In July Though!..
The drummer is awesome, it's Zak Starkey! Two famous drummer teach him drumming as a kid, his dad (Ringo Starr) and his dad very good friend (Keith Moon).
Zak Starkey is one lucky guy. He drums for The Who and his father is Ringo Starr! Plus he’s a good drummer talented in his own right. I like how he plays and sounds. Now this was a halftime show! 🎉😮
Next best thing to the Mad Moon though. That young man is Keith Moon's protégé Zac Starkey (Ringo's son). Sad though that the Ox has gone the way of all flesh too.
I have seen THE WHO 5 TIME'S going back to the 70s. I was born and raised in north Philly. Being a teenager and living in Philadelphia pa. Back in the 60s and 70s and having the great spectrum to see these rock bands. I saw a lot of the greatest rock bands. Aerosmith 2 times in the early 70s. Bob seger Black Sabbath with Ozzy. Bruce Springsteen 4 times but a couple of his shows were at different places but right next to the spectrum. ZZ TOP AND I HAD TICKETS TO SEE LED ZEPPELIN. At JFK stadium in south Philly. But Robert plants son died never got to see them but I never thought they were as good as a lot of people thought. But THE WHO IS THE GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME.
This was such a powerful show - there's just something about a real band with a great catalog of songs really playing them. The only thing that disappoints me about this and subsequent Who outings is having turned it into the Pete and Roger show with Zak and the bassist (I guess Piño?) left in darkness and very little camera time. That's not the Who spirit to me. They didn't treat Kenney Jones or Simon Phillips that way but after John died, everyone but Roger and Pete have been treated like nonentities.
That short and electric performance of Who Are You is up there with Purple Rain as the GREATEST Super Bowl half time song performances of all all time. Goosebumps. I thought Pete's licks were going to cause a power outage.
Rodger had been recovering from throat surgery. His voice was weak but still good. Saw them a year ago and much better. Very strong. Both of them! And Zac was just great. Even Simon Townsend was on board and made the whole show a incredible experience. I felt like I was seeing The Who 50 years ago!
This is what a half time show should be like...these days IF I watch the Super Bowl I change the channel as soon as the clock hits 00:00 at the end of the 2nd quarter.
Still remember seeing them for the Who '82 farewell concert (first of many "farewells", lol). I (vaguely) remember the massive party at Lamport Stadium in Toronto the night before the tickets went on sale. We had bonfires on the grass, cops and firemen everywhere. The overnight party was as good as the concert!
I remember their concerts were the BEST! They are the loudest band in rock-n-roll & I used to get right down front & lay my head in the speaker cabinet so my whole body vibrated, lol! They are the BEST, except no substitute! (pun intended) I loved watching Keith tear his drum kit up & Pete smash his guitar, what a fucking show! Pete was the first to use a synthesizer in rock music & it really gave the music an edge to the music!
The.. Amazing...WHO..."Live" This was when the Super Bowl was Really.....COOL.....you couldn't wait till Halftime.....Remember those Days..... Mr Dilly wants to know...What happened ??!!And how the Heck is Pete still jumping like that.. At his.. Age ??!! 😮😢🎸🤔
