I couldn't find this song on RU-vid so I decided to upload it Original upload : / the-who-eminence-front... Video : • Tokyo Night Drive #thewho #eminencefront #music
Driving to this song at 4 am headed to work just gets you in the mood to own the day. And whatever life throws at you is fine because you know that you will destroy it.
It’s not often you heard a Who track with Townsend on the vocals, but when he stepped up. You knew he was gonna blow you away. The greatest band to come out of West London. No questions asked, no quarter given.
Fans of this: i fish offshore here in South Florida 2-3 nights/week. I was a teen watching Miami Vice and heard this Season 3, Episode 1. Thought it was Phil Collins, but realized quickly it was another group. Figured it out and it has been the first song of the playlist for 30 years. This version has replaced the old one and gets us in the mood ro settle down and focus on the snapper, grouper, getting the chum right, loosening the beer from the ice, all business, rewind tune/restart, crack a beer open, smoke something and let Entwhistle beat the fish onto our hooks with the exquisite bass play. I feel odd if I dont start ANY adventure without playing this top shelf work of art! TY OP!
See that's part of what it means when people say they don't write them like they used to. I mean for a while I think that expression applied mostly to the fact that people weren't even using real instruments anymore. But it actually has a lot to do with the content. I mean some of the stuff I hear coming out of people's cars I can't believe it's actually music. Singing about stuff they should be ashamed to admit to himself in the mirror. Bragging about being disrespectful. This era was it was just so special because everything really meant something and these guys really had something to say that was so relevant that it's still relevant! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
This one gives me chills , sound builds over a rather slow method of keys , to emerge you into the deep rythem , like a slow swim into a quiet river as it turns to a rapid ride .
Brings back memories of living in Tokyo and going out for a late night drive to clear the mind. That drive over the Rainbow Bridge and by the Tokyo Tower always brings a smile. Thanks for the upload!
Drums are different than those in the radio edit. That is to say...they sound better. More organic. Definite Miami Vice feel with the night driving footage. Very nice. Thanks OP!
Great song. Anyone else notice the Chevy Astro van in front of the red car for the first few minutes in? It's kind of cool to see an American van over there and looks like a fun city to cruise around too.
Thank YOU so much!! Was addicted to this song from the very 1st note in Nebraska back in 1982. Killer driving Bass & Funk lines. Became a "theme song" for me & my dancefloors in 6 states & 2 countries. I appreciate your 12 minutes of Heaven! Don
cannot spend one day without listening to this track. I was not a fan of The Who, in their early days, but this track got me, menacing, anticipation of what was coming after this long intro, wait was very worthwhile, get in your car, put this on and watch for the cops!
@@bedrosnersesyan6975 this is a great tune all the same though Tommy and Quadrophenia are powerful albums that I can't play just select tunes like their earliest stuff that was more "pop" Who.
a lot of goosebumps to this track, and even more shivers to the 1982 toronto live version of eminence front, you should like it man, check it out and report back
let us make the record companies happy and do not even think of releasing a brilliant track like this, who will buy it? They have a lot to answer for with so many talented artistes who had to obey the rules of the times. The public who actually spend their hard earned money know when a band is hog tied, shame on the companies that did this for many years, frustrating for many bands, whose talent was not allowed to give such joy to us paying fans. Shame on you, but we knew, thank you all the bands that tried so hard to bring all their ideas and talents to us, you were worth our money and we thank you.
Look how clean the concrete barriers are on the side of the road. No Graffiti, No Wreck Marks, No Tire Black Marks. I dare you to find L.A. Barriers that clean.
Been there and done that, as a USAF SSgt stationed at Misawa & Yokota Japan back in the '90s, but sadly, also on 12/3/79 at Riverfront Colliseum, Cincinnati Ohio: may our 11 rockers rest in peace, they are not forgotten. Bittersweet memories, indeed.
WOW!!! I just love it when i stumble on killer jams like this. I'm going to be 59 next month and Ive been a WHO fan since I was 15. I had the privilege of seeing them 3 times and they always blew me away. Thanks for the jam. Keep em coming.
prob because NYC (iirc) driving at night - in the mid 90's ... This Giuliani's NYC!!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Giuliani also, low resolution video. Yes, I dig it!
Hi from Australia, come & drive the freeways & tollways & tunnels of Sydney or Melbourne with plenty of cameras for accidents or bad driver behavior, these cameras are also used to stop graffiti and litter. Just try to litter or do graffiti & there will be police & security waiting for you in nano seconds.
SOOOO much better than the radio edit... oh the drums... oh yes.... I mean you barely start going into a nice hypnogogic state on the too short radio version when it suddenly ends... it just STOPS! GADS, you feel like you just stepped out of the 'artist's collective' and had no idea the sun was completely up and the night was long gone. I always hated that. .
Dude, same with the Beatles “I want you (she’s so heavy)” talk about stepping out of the artists collective when exiting the trance that is the ending of that song. Talk about a song just stopping!!
Robert was hardly being ungrateful, I wondered the same too. It's not edited Robert, and it's absolutely brilliant, I didnt know this was available, I am incredibly grateful to hear this, same as yourself 👍🏼
Not a Who fan, but this song is up there with the best of them. Something about it I can't explain. Also, I like how they are mocking the "coke fans" of the 80s at a time when coke was widely accepted. It's the "devil's dust" and they knew it. It's kind of like telling Slo-Hand he was all wrong.
Excellent decision to match this song up with the occasionally, looooooong going, very stressful game and / or chore of having to drive on a freeway. The fact that the footage is obviously from a *_*Japanese freeway_** adds something visually special to it. ...this is a coldly-cool delight of a video for the ears and eyes.
I like the chevron indicators ( >>>>>>>>> ) on the concrete walls on the curves. Sometimes drivers need a gentle reminder to turn the steering wheel. California freeway walls have big paint scrapes and vertical tire marks to warn people.
Video spot on! This is a night- song ... Somehow in my vision this song always takes me back in the days of cold war Berlin ..This has the same vibe as Neil Young's song titled .. Berlin.
And that was Pete's biggest complaint (yes he complained about Moons playing among most other things) that he would never just hold a straight beat. He had to add lots of fills and crashes in his ADHD style. When they finally got the new guy playing a straight beat, they were so pumped they made a track that completely transcended their own sound and style. Most people don't think this is the Who. More like Peter Gabriel, early Robert Palmer or someone from the 80s.
I’ve only recently discovered this track - but I’ve been a fan of Pete Townshend’s 80s work since, well the 80s - there’s an album of his called ‘White City - A Novel’ which has a similar feel to this. The drums and bass on this mix in particular sound awesome. A great find!
yes there are a lot of us out there doing the same thing, such a shock for me to hear this track, I hated The Who for years, such a bloody row, then this came out, it might be the only track I love this band but it was worth the wait!
ah someone who is really listening! This is special, todays's youngsters will not understand this, but then I do not understand their musical interests at all, but I am nearly 78, who else is out there who tries to pretend this is not 2021, such musical rubbish, but we have You Tube, thank God!
I heard this years ago and was so surprised it was The Who, sorry but not a band I was into then. Play it every day now or if not suffer terrific depression! Love it!
Fantastic video! Very hypnotic puts you into the video. The only thing that bugs me is the driver should have sliced up the light traffic with a little more haste, a little boost from the turbo wouldn't have hurt..
