The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again (Live at Kilburn 1977). Sorry for the splitted video. And don't forget to listen at full blasted volume and use HEADPHONES!
Yeah, and the cameraman can't stop showing Townshend even when JE is utterly ripping on bass and Pete's just chording. We don't even see there's a 4th guy onstage until a distant shot at 1:29. Edit: Just saw similar comments further down the thread. Nothing original here, I'm just joining the choir. I liked whoever said that 20th-century rock concert cameramen must have been told never to follow the bassist.
Listening to The Who is like watching a drunken elephant stagger from one side of a china shop to the other, without breaking a single dish somehow. Reckless, dangerous, chaotic, perfect. Everybody is playing lead breaks at the same time, but it works somehow. That's The Who.
Your comment and those that agree seem to lack the view, perception, perspective depth, expression of THE WHO and in particular this song, perhaps their live show presentation, show, energy, etc. 😒 Not even "Rolling Stone" magazine writers would have lacked such in their description, perception, feeling, expression and depth ... then. 😑 Thus, the statements are basically foolish nonsense. 😒 Sincerely 😃
That's not true 🤩 THANK GOD I'm the guitarist of such a band!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-isjGsh4AlpQ.html (Sound is weak, but wait `till you hear us LIVE!)
There are just not enough shots of John Entwhistle in this video. Listen to those lines. His musicianship is almost free form playing with Townshend, Moon and Daltrey’s vocals almost simultaneously. Pure genius. I picked up the bass 45 years ago and never took a lesson after hearing him play My Generation.
Sure, I've done that with the multi-camera part of "The Kids are Alright" DVD. Since I could only do 3 screens at a time, I just taped a photo of the Ox to the bottom of my TV.
The most dynamic thing John Entwistle does is casually take two steps back when Pete takes a run and slide over to his side of the stage. And I love him for it. What a band.
I think Entwistle's static stage presence and intricate bass lines held the band together on stage. We'll never know but I think things would have been too chaotic if he'd been leaping around with the rest of them. Entwistle's bass playing on Quadrophenia is sublime.
7:45 for everybody who wants to see it without watching the whole video. Which you should do anyway. This is what God was thinking of when he created Rock'n'Roll, with a grin on his face so evil it made Lucifer shiver. :)
Of all the bands I’ve seen over the the last nearly 60 years, and of all the songs played at those shows, none were so explosively great as Won’t Get Fooled! It’s weird, because I got chills due to the emotion of hearing the great song, all the while my body exploding with adrenaline. This was rock n roll at its best for me. The most exciting thing I had ever seen and heard.
@@johnpaulclarkson4671 Along with Jack Casady, Jack Bruce, Barry Oakley, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee and Andy Fraser to name a few (though I can't play nearly as well as any of them).
@@timfarrell6968 He gets heaps of recognition man as do the who. Hes nowhere near as innovative or capable a gutarist as the other british greats like jimmy page, clapton, jeff back etc so I think he gets credited well for what he does in the who.
Entwistle didn't particuarly care for Magic Bus since it was so repetitious for him, but how dynamic it was...like a second drumbeat! Especially on Live at Leeds.
I can remember going to see Bill Hayley " Rock around the Clock" in 1955, and my late father said, what a row , it will never last ", and here I am 65 years later, STILL listening to rock music. No dad, it'll never last.
I sing it everyday as we take out the sick secret society Illuminati globalist Deep State satanic establishment that’s been ruling over us for 1000 years. It’s happening. Nothing can stop what’s coming. You are watching the systematic destruction of the old guard. WWG1WGA
Was at the Houston concert where Pete jumped while windmilling his guitar, lost his balance and fell on his ass.. He never missed a beat, and soloed on his back! It was AWESOME!😬👍
I was watching Fanny on the beat club sessions and was surprised by how wild yet controlled Alice de Buhr was on the drums and in one of the videos sections she so reminded me of Keith Moon. Everything was perfect but so crazy too.
I was there for the whole day. Great fun. Maybe 200 people all up. Probably Keith's second last performance in front of an audience. The gig was put together to fill in tracks and visual references for a movie in production (The Kids Are Alright). The filming at Kilburn was done in 35mm. Noteworthy was the first use of lasers in a Rock n Roll setting. Really well done.
That bassline! With moons drums!! Pete's guitar and Rogers vocals ! amazing ! This!! Is what you call classical hard rock!! Keith moon is a legend , ....oh...and he's a drummer too
Entwhistle has to be the best bassist in the classic rock era. He does nail this one but The Real Me has the absolutely greatest bass line of anything I’ve ever heard. Listen to it with bass and mid up
To my mind John Entwisle was a brilliant bassist and kept this group together, not just on this song but many more. Not sure that I have heard a more pro active bassist, ever!
Keith Moon was the most amazing drummer. He never kept time, but he was as musical and powerful as anyone who slammed those sticks on the skins that you could imagine. He made it look easy! A true rock and roll powerhouse!
This is just one example of the greatest live rock band. The beatles stones zeppelin--- no one came close to this perfection on the live stage. NO ONE! LONG LIVE ROCK AND THE WHO
Zeppelin was basically a blues rock cover band, still like em but the WHO had better songwriting with Towshend and I prefer Daltrey thundering kick ass voice VS Plant. PHYSICAL GRAFFITI was Zeps best.
Townshend plays so accurate - while showing Bruce Lee some kicks and Fred Astaire some dance moves. His chords are sharp like razor blades - and he misses not one. What high quality of musicianship and showmanship!!!!
This is just incredible. I can't stop watching it. Wish i had been there. I love Keiths poise on the drums ready to take off. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ❤❤❤❤❤
Entwistle said when Moon joined the band, they all had to get better. He also said, the first time he heard Moon play, it sounded like a jet taking off. Great to see them all rocking out in their prime, eh?
Well I know I'm an old fart now but there is no modern band that can give out half that raw energy and moon and Entwistle thumping away behind is incredible.
From one old fart to another, there never was, and probably, no definately, never will be, any band that can come anywhere near the Who. Marvelous live, and recorded, and I wish I was as energetic now as I was at their gigs. Happy days....
Hell of beautifully harmonized song. Three visionary, imaginative, rough, and quintessentially musical Englishmen and a masterful, powerful bass genius keeping them and their music together.
How Pete does not go arm over apex with those strides and a guitar cable I shall never know, such a fantastic band and certainly some of the very best rock songs EVER!
Just listen to that bass (well all the band of course). John Entwhistle is playing lead on the bass.. Brilliant.. The best powerhouse Rock and Roll band ever and probably the best rock anthem ever!
Its all the beatles and the stones but really the who were mighty ! What an era of uk music. So much skilled talent the list of bands from 60s uk is huge
Heck, also maybe the best rock album ever. It starts with Baba O'Riley, which as I type in June, 2020, nearly 50 years later, has one of the most frequently used and recognizable riffs,, and ends with Won't Get Fooled Again. The songs in the middle aren't quite at the level of these classics, but there's not a mediocre song on *Who's Next*. They were the first band to use volume effectively. They invented metal, or *heavy* metal, as it was called. (You can hear them doing it on later releases of Live at Leeds, especially on the 15 minute version of My Generation). Pete wrote, and the band performed, the first successful rock opera. In their prime they were electrifying. No one has rocked harder. No one has ever had songs to do it. Just an awesome band.
Geezer, Lee both great, I also think highly of Peter Baltes -Accept. Entwistle might have a hair on them, really though, you all forget one person(and he came along later ) Les Claypool, I think he is the best. He is Jimmy Page on Bass. Primus may not be for alot of folks , but I suggest listening some of Claypool's playing,.Stuff doesn't sound possible at times, and he definitely is original. I am an old school rocker but I'll give credit where credit is due

It's interesting how the lyrics of this song that were so true in the 70's is still so true today. We all have the same boss who's just using a new way to control things.
It's 2021 and looking back The Who was such astonishing amazing band; John's bass, Keith's drums, Roger`s powerful voice and Pete's energy and windmills on stage were so outstanding. Probably why I wrote a paper about them in college. Rock on......
Entwhistle was the rock that anchored the group. The other three could be as wild as they wanted to be and John would be standing off to the left playing away calm and cool.
He's proof that you can be the greatest bass player in the history of rock without having to take anything away from anyone else's performance. Every single note he played only ever made the rest of the band sound that much better.
Best live rock performance ever? It has to be up there doesn't it? No doubt that Won't Get Fooled Again is the best rock track ever written (in my opinion) that image of Daltrey as a silhouette in the lights during the sampler section is surely one of the most iconic moments in rock history!
Cannot forget this performance - what a great loss Keith was and also John Entwistle - grew up with this band and tried to get people to appreciate their music in the 60's
Einfach einmalig, ich hatte die Ehre the Who in Nürnberg auf dem Zeppelinfeld zu sehen. Mit nichts zu vergleichen, unbeschreiblich gut, das nimmt man mit ins Grab 😅
4orrcountry You and I know, of course, though other less intelligent mortals walk benighted under the midday sun. What d'ye think of that then, Sunshine?
"THE WHO" was known as the loudest Rock Band in the World. When you were walking out of a Concert Hall after listening to these guys play there many Hit tunes you were DEAF as a post and grinning from ear to ear. "ELECTRIFIED" and probably Stoned as well. Great Rock Band for sure!
Still a timeless classic! The bass on this is killer! John Entwistle makes this song, for me! I wish they had shown him more but that's how it is; they always show the front men jumping around and strutting the stage. The bass sits back and makes it really happen - chill, but essential. It's why I love bass players.
B.BaiIey. I was fortunate to see the ox live a few years before he passed away. there will never be another like him for style, ability and to make a building rumble to his sound. As it was once said " like a VC10 on takeoff".
