"If anyone's looking at this, going 'Hey, I can patent that', just consider this Prior Art". I have to give this video a Like because you're making sure your design stays in the Public Domain. Brilliant way to keep innovations and fresh inventions in the hands of the people, thankyou!
@bluedog101c
@bluedog101c 2 года назад
Nobody nobody would patent that, it's a bad design. The intent is great but it's best to make 2 pieces one to wind the wick and then to place it on the base for use. Plus look at hoocho does he look smart he probably stole that idea and incorporated into his design thus the flaw in the design.
@H0b0sexual
@H0b0sexual 2 года назад
@@bluedog101c And what have you contributed?
@bluedog101c
@bluedog101c 2 года назад
@@H0b0sexual I like the intent of the design. However cutting the wink string into individual isn't efficient it's better to make best use of the wick my winding it around as a single piece on the top and then secure the top to a (2nd piece) base that is attach to the gutter. In addition the wick should be able to attach the dutch bucket system that Hoochoo already design making it scalable for individual use. Hoochoo made plenty of design put few of them are compatible with each other. What we do know about hydroponics is that all custom built for individual site and if your going to design something design something to be flexible and adaptable to intergrade various types of systems together. Don't you think? I need a 2 dutch buckets and a small gutter rail system with a tower one as one system. What people tend to do is adopt one system like the rail gutter and don't have options unless they adopt anther system like the dutch or tower and in doings so people tend to disown hydroponics.

Dude, you are the man. So many ideas in that brain of yours! I’m not quite ready to jump into 3d printing but what you are creating makes me even more interested. One piece of advice from my last harvest here in so cal, was to to pull the tomatoes when they are a nice deep yellow. Once the gas exchange has started, they ripen quickly and on their own while the plant can provide additional nutrients to the stragglers.

Hoocho, still innovating! Well done. PS: The small float holes allow the valve to turn off at higher mains pressures. The floats you are using with the big holes have trouble turning off if the mains pressure goes above 400kPa.

Wedge design can be improved to avoid cutting many pieces of the wick. But it needs to touch the bottom. By adding a bar at the bottom across inside the cylinder and wrapping or rolling just one long piece of wick you may be able to achieve this. Also this would ensure the wick touches the water compared to dangling free and being uncertain if it would touch water. You may add some grooves on this bottom bar to hold the wick tight. Hope you find this suggestion helpful. Cheers
@capitalinventor4823
@capitalinventor4823 2 года назад
It's better to have four separate wicks than one that wraps around at the bottom. The printed wick wedge is designed to sit on the bottom of the rain gutter so any wick cut with both ends going slightly beyond the bottom of the wick wedge will touch the bottom of the rain gutter. The end of a wick with its frayed end will take up much more water because there is much more surface area for water to be absorbed into the wick. A bar on the bottom of the wick wedge to wrap a single wick around would either have to be moveable or easily changeable before printing. The wick a person uses may have a different diameter and different wicks expand at different rates when wet. There could be enough force to break the bar when the wick gets wet or even cause the lip of the wick wedge to come up from the top of the rain gutter, depending on the mass of the bag of material receiving the water.

Thank you for all the information that you provide and experiences that share. I have a question on the Wick Wedge Hydroponic System. Can the Bags be turned on the side to accommodate the deeper rooting systems like tomatoes? I would try, but the North Eastern part of the United States is about to head in to the winter months. Again thanks.
@danboutdoors4584
@danboutdoors4584 2 года назад
Awesome work again bud! As a thought, if you made the “collar” that sits on top of the rain gutter a bit bigger, could you use longer wicks and put some of these onto the top of a bucket/container with a single bag for a stand-alone setup (almost like DWT)? The longer wicks would go to the bottom of the container and wick up nutrients as it goes.

Nice design and idea. I would do differently by placing 5 gallon bucket lid with a 3" grow basket in the center fully stuff with wicking fabric branch out and fully in contact with the big round wicking fabric (used towel etc..) sitting on top of a 5 gallons bucket lid. Place the 7 gallons grow bag filled with potting mix on top of the flat surface will wick the water up from the base up. The area in contact is a full bucket lid surface. That is what I am doing. Seem more economical and practical.

NOTE: The ultraviolet light from the sun will deteriorate the plastic coco peat bags. They will break and fall apart over time. Therefore you will only get ONE growing cycle per coco bag. Then you will have to clean up all the coco peat and use in your other container systems. That makes a lot of extra work! Should find a way to get the coco peat bags to last longer over several growing seasons.
