Time Bandits is a 1981 British fantasy adventure film co-written, produced, and directed by Terry Gilliam. It stars Sean Connery, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ralph Richardson, Katherine Helmond, Ian Holm, Michael Palin, Peter Vaughan, and David Warner.
Gilliam has referred to Time Bandits as the first in his "Trilogy of Imagination", followed by Brazil (1985) and ending with The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988).[4] All are about the "craziness of our awkwardly ordered society and the desire to escape it through whatever means possible".[4] All three films focus on these struggles and attempts to escape them through imagination: Time Bandits through the eyes of a child, Brazil through the eyes of a man in his thirties, and Munchausen through the eyes of an elderly man.[4]

This is part of a directorially themed three part series by Gilliam. "Time Bandits" is youth, "Brazil" is middle age, and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" is old age. They are all unique and distinct movies that portray the themes and perspectives of the age they represent. I highly recommend all three; and in my personal opinion, they get better as they progress.

"Why is there plastic over everything." Back several decades, FUSSY people used to keep plastic coverings on furniture to keep them clean. If you notice at the beginning at Kevin's house, they have plastic on all the furniture, so Evil having everything plastic-coated is sort of an exaggeration of that.

Fun fact: the actor who plays Fidget is also the same actor that was R2-D2 throughout the Star Wars franchise

Finally! Someone watches this epic film! If you liked this you should also try: The Adventures of the Baron Munchausen!

Saw this back in the day, I was 10 and I loved it! Even the ending...life isn't always happy endings and Gilliam was one of the few directors with the balls to tell you that truth. It's a valuable life lesson that I'm glad I learned at such a young age.

I was living in a group home when this came on the TV, so I laid on the floor and started watching it and not one single individual walked in the living room while I was watching it, so I guess I stole some time to sit back and enjoy this movie without someone talking over it. 😊

One of those weird movies that you have to enjoy the end to appreciate the beginning.

At 46:57 - This is not to ALL the parents. Not ALL parents neglect their children. This is very much a lesson FOR neglectful parents... among the bizarre slapstick.

"Sean Connery? Where have I heard of Sean Connery before?" - That was the moment I stopped watching. I can not watch a movie review by anyone who doesn't know who Sean Connery is. Such people are not permitted in my world.

The mind of Terry Gilliam, you should follow up and watch The Adventures of Baron Munchausen or Brazil or some newer ones like 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or The Man who killed Don Quixote. Anything by Monty Python is also a good recommendation.

The photographs prove it wasn't a dream. And the 'minotaur' was a man 'in universe' wearing a dead bull's head as a helmet, so Agamemnon just takes it off as proof that he has killed the bad guy.

Mmm...If you bone up a touch on your Greek mythology, you'll soon see that Kevin was well out of Agememnon's house. It tragically fell to treachery from within...which was originally caused by his own actions. Family members slew other family, and caused a great strife that lasted many years.

I do believe that the spirit of this movie is to challenge you to use your imagination and continue the story. Or figure out what happens next 🤔 🤷.

I dont recal just when i realized, that Benson, the assistant to the Ultimate Evil who was turned into a dog, was a prior colleage of the Bandits, before they began their life of crime. Was it he who designed the pink bunkadoo?

After watching three different reviews today (after having watched in on HBO back in the 1980s and once again in the early 2000s), I have come to a realization. While there will always be materialistic idiots who value the newest technology (or whatever) over people, particularly children, there will also always be people who honestly care - like Agamemnon (or later, the fireman). There will be folks who are concerned with their own...concerns, but will still have attention left over for caring for a buddy. If you noticed, in every scene that involved a couple that reminded us (in some way) of Kevin's parents, they were always worried about materialistic nonsense. Even the ogrish couple in the house that got destroyed by the Titan were arguing about nonsense. While materialistic nonsense can be the greatest evil (as demonstrated by the Evil Genius), it was the folks who cared for Kevin who made out okay. Mostly. I fully expect that, once life starts again after the camera stopped rolling, that Kevin would have been taken care of by some sort of Children's Protective Services, as we all watched him become an orphan. And that fireman will probably come back to adopt Kevin. (Or, at least, that's what my fan-fiction writing head says.)

I think it is at least comedic, if not purely a comedy movie. And definitely not sci-fi but fantasy.

Sean Connery and Ian Holm have also passed as well as all the dwarf actors Many of the the dwarf actors here also had minor roles in Star Wars in one form or another but Kenny Baker who played Fidget was the most well known as he played R2D2 in the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy.
