I grew up with the PlayStation 1 under my tv stand and it's one of my favorite retro gaming platforms of all time...so I wanted to do SOME SORT of series on it. But considering it's more fun to talk about the esoteric side of retrogaming I decided to do a ten part series on arcade games that run on PSX hardware; the Capcom ZN-1 and ZN-2, the Namco System 10, Namco System 11 and Namco System 12, the Konami GQ and of course the Taito G-Net.
Things like Tekken, Street Fighter, etc etc...all existed on these kinds of arcade boards AS WELL AS at home on the PlayStation 1 console! Video game history on both sides of the gaming aisle! Also if you like Final Fantasy....Ehrgeiz!
We've got arcade fighting games, beat em ups, shmups, lightgun games, horror games...and even a little Final Fantasy!
Patreon Thanks : Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, John Anderson, RayceARoni, Kuranghi, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barobob, Steve Randall, ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane, tobemorecrazy,
Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holger Schmidt, Tim Lehner, matschmonster, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj and Dorfus!
Up first: A tour of all the weird and esoteric PSX based arcade hardware that exists: The Taito G-Net motherboard, the Konami GQ motherboard (Crypt Killer) and the Konami GV / Baby Phoenix. Because there is so much retro gaming fun to be had when it comes to PS1 arcade hardware and games!
I mean who wouldn't want to play Capcom's Rival Schools on an arcade board? Or Mr Driller? Or Point Blank?!
plus even if you don't have the arcade hardware like I am showing here these games all emulate via MAME emulation! Video game preservation win!

I was an arcade tech in the late 90s, and every week I was fixing Crypt Killer. People were BRUTAL on those shotguns. I was constantly ordering replacement pumps from Happs.

Oh man, this reminds me of the old PS1-based arcade game emulator I used to use all the time. I can't remember for the life of me what it was called, but it played the old Namco arcade games really well. EDIT: It was called Zinc! It emulated Sony ZN-1 and ZN-2, Namco System 11/12, and Konami GV/GQ stuff.

Capacitors as batteries is totally a thing. Most famous example is probably the cap that goes bad on original Xboxes. Usually, such as in that case, anything 1 farad or higher that has a slow enough discharge rate to act as a battery is nicknamed a super capacitor. There’s a lot of potential for new versions of super capacitors to help by replacing batteries on electric grids.

Though I played quite a bit of SF EX at the mall (though only saw EX2 at an amusement park's arcade), and the System 11/12 Tekken games + Soul Blade and Soul Calibur...the PSX-based arcade games I probably played the most of were some of the DDR games. Fun stuff. There are plenty of PSX-based games I've missed (and I've meant to try Crypt Killer for sure) because, though I've played some on MAME....they've all been the ones I've already played back years ago haha. Actually, I have to say that I didn't realize Konami's Nagano '98 game was an arcade port...or if I knew, I completely forgot. I've seen a fair bit of hate for that game, but I quite liked the N64 version. I rented it, and then went out and bought it when the price dropped a bit.

The G Net is the only arcade PCB I own. As MAME emulation for Shikigami no Shiro (Castle of Shikigami) hasn't been accurate for a long time (playable but no slow down, sound sucks). PS2/Xbox/PC ports aren't bad but they're locked to 480i/480p and less slow downs than the G Net. The PC version imo has the closest feel. I'm probably too fussy. I wonder if a Mister core for G Net may eventually come..

I don't doubt the master level of Knowledge this RU-vidr has. I am sure he has University level Knowledge of this. It is always fun to see in depth guides on things like this. Now, I personally am a Sega fan. Love them and while I am a fan I am also not too much that I can't point out the problems that were, unfortunately, part of their in-house business with CSK. I could go into that but typing it all out and arguing online just isn't my thing. I'd much rather calmly and civilly discuss it with open minds. Anyway, this is getting too long as it is. All I am trying to say is, Sony "Worked closely with Sega Engineers" and all of a sudden after SOJ head Nakayama Shhh canned the partnership with Sony as he correctly stated that Sony had no full understanding of Consoles at that point. Albeit they did do MSX. I highly doubt the PlayStation coming out right after the Nakayama incident had nothing to do with Sony's engineers "Working Closely" with Sega's that a similar set of hardware specs to an internal failed Arcade Sega Hardware called Jupiter. Has anything to do with this console and subsequently the Arcade hardware based on it. But, Hey What do I know, Right? Still, very cool video.
