Official Music Video for "Elevate" The Winery Dogs are: Richie Kotzen (guitar/vocals) Billy Sheehan (bass/vocals) Mike Portnoy (drums/vocals) www.thewinerydogs.com / thewinerydogs / thewinerydogs
A guy who can sing like Chris Cornell while playing funky rhythms and lead guitar like Hendrix and Van Halen, the most dazzling bass guitarist in the world not named 'Victor', and the drummer EVERYBODY wants...you can't go wrong with these guys.
I'm glad Richie Kotzen is finally getting the recognition he so rightfully deserves. He might be the most underrated musician on the planet (well, at least up there with King's X).
Ian Thornley (of Big Wreck) absolutely belongs in this discussion as well. Unbelievable guitarist, ironically with Cornell-esque vocals much like Richie as well. If you're not familiar, he's much worth a listen...
WOW! Billy Sheehan (Bass) has found a Great Vocalist, a Jeff Beck style guitar player in Richie Kotzen, and excellent Drummer = Mike Portnoy! ~ Love this New Band
Originally, this band was supposed to feature John Sykes on guitars and vocals (Whitesnake/Blue Murder/Thin Lizzy/Tigers Of Pan Tang), but in what has become a familiar happening unfortunately, Sykes continues to torpedo his own career.
these guys just raised the bar. everyone is singing, pop hooks, complex rhythms that don't detract from the song, powerful rock sound, the bass is a full member of the band, excellent singing, well written lyrics, and not a pick in sight. rarely do rock musicians truly mature, seems like most put their best work out early, but these guys have found something. I am predicting these cats are gonna be BIG.
Not a pick in sight!! 😂 I agree! That’s pretty cool! And as a drummer that sings I love how it’s a trio who all sing. Everyone here is really talented , but I actually didn’t like their writing in a lot of songs before in their past endeavors. But this stuff is really good, interesting but grooves, technical yet memorable. Lots of fu.n listening to and I’m sure it’ll be a bit difficult but fun to learn a drum track or two of.
Breath of fresh air in a sea of dead music. I am a big dream theater fan and am glad to see mike here and sounding better than ever nice. its amazing how really great music is never played on the radio but then again the masses are asses. pick this one up on vinyl sounds even better hope they last awhile....
Lost in the dark I feel like a shadow of myself I'm not what I was I keep looking for another second chance To get me? clean Elevate me Take me higher I don't wanna be wasted I've got nothing left to loose It's a little known fact I see everything black And I don't wanna face it Elevate me Take me higher The smoke and the dark Has just taken me in Over my head No-one to trust I'm feeling like I'm closely there I was to the? end Elevate me Take me higher I don't wanna be wasted I've got nothing left to loose It's a little known fact I see everything black And I don't wanna face it Elevate me Take me higher I'm tired of taking the test Don't test me My troubled mind is a mess You know I'm I'm only trying my best To be set free Elevate me Take me higher I don't wanna be wasted I've got nothing left to loose It's a little known fact I see everything black And I don't wanna face it Elevate me Take me higher
All you metal heads...did you forget to open your minds?! This band is fucking awesome! Saw them pushed on That Metal Show tonight after Sonictheather 2014 last week! Buying this for my Christmas! piss off.
All these nasty, negative comments amuse me. These guys are all top-tier musicians. What music have you produced? Where are your albums for people to listen to and pick apart? They're making music that a lot of people really dig and they're enjoying themselves, at the same time. If you don't like it, that's fine. But do you really need to be such asses about it? Just go back to listening to your Five Finger Death Punch or Spice Girls, or whatever the hell you enjoy and leave well enough alone.
***** if you think that then you obviously don't know what a solo is lol they are in a solo heavy style but certainly not soloing at the same time, the only time that tends to happen is if sheehan and kotzen are doing a melodic thing. seems to me like just a bunch of butt hurt beavers who either A. can't comprehend the music [I'd assume from the lack of musical talent that has been around the past 20 or so years that has made the world so musically ignorant] or a fanboy raging about mike and dt or some other trivial matter that has nothing to do with the music itself.
***** obviosuly not , not only have you came back to reply to me but about this band you really should think before you type, less ignorant that way ya know. and are you kidding me? "songmanship" as you incorrectly call it instrumentally is 100% transcribed from the aesthetics of music theory which they are doing flawlessly if you think this incorrect provide evidence showing me incorrect otherwise stop talking about something you seem completely ignorant of. the fact you dislike the band has nothing to do with musicianship its simple your musical preference differs please next time educate yourself and learn the differences, again less ignorant that way.
I wish you good luck mike portnoy, you and your new band.. please keep drumming cause the whole world loves you and knows who you are.. bad comments are the grey aliens among us.. they try to destroy but everything you [mike] build, is crashing them all down again and again..
quality band does not have to play music with high skill, but a quality band is that they can always colour his music any compact. Both billy, mike, and richie kotzen, they are legend in music,so what the harm if they work in the group, and all have proven that there is no need to DREAM THEATER we could stay enjoy music with great skill.. greeting from us PLANE PROJECT band from Indonesia
Saw em last two nights @ BB's Times Sq... I was really impressed. I'm a DT fan/friend of the band and always liked Richie Kotzen who I don't think copies CC but they have the same tonal quality to their voices.... Like I said.. CC can't play a lick on guitar nor keys but Richie can.... Cornell is a better singer by far imo. Their live show was awesome but you've got to open your mind to fusion to fully enjoy their respective talents imho. I wish them all the best they're a good outfit. I play guitar without a pick ( I'm learning...had to switch from left to right recently) and it's fun to play pickless... gives you a lot more control. A friend of mine is lead in a local band in NYC and can play LAMF sans pick if he so chooses but gigs with a pick and goes w /o for certain things for fun. I did notice Kotzen uses one for his one acoustic guitar number. The opening act was the guy from TNT. They had a great night at BBs I was most impressed by BIlly Sheehan's bass solo. I didn't know a bass could be played like that ! Eruption on a bass ! This guy is a master of his instrument. I was impressed. I had their album and knew in my head what to expect but seeing them live blew me away and I'm a seasoned show campaigner. I highly recommend them. Best $40 I ever spent. One final footnote.. I think Portnoy should have stayed in DT.... WD could use another great drummer but being a power trio they all have to write the music.
There's a lot of instant dismissal for this band because of the personalities in it (mainly Portnoy) but if you pay attention to the music for a second, you realise it's 3 musicians each with distinguished careers and a fantastic knowledge of their way around their instruments, and they clearly just wanna jam out and have fun with this. The music practically screams fun! Just enjoy it for what it is; three brilliant musicians going back to basics throwing out some rock and blues
billy sheehan is probably the best bass player in the world and partnered with mike portnoy you have perhaps the most powerful rhythm and sometimes lead section in the world... endlesss possibilities
ok am I crazy or does this guy sound literally exactly like Chris Cornell? Every time I hear his voice i just start laughing because there is no difference. I can't be the only one thinking this.
Aaron Gothmann Uhm hear Cornell live he…Uhm sucked! This Dude is way stronger live - check The Winery Dogs live video - this dude sings just as strong live!
Yeah, okay. If you want to look at it from a perspective of possibles; okay. However, I've never read or heard an article with Chris Cornell, that says Kotzen was a huge influence. Also Soundgarden formed in 1984 and was a fixture on the scene by 1986; when Kotzen was 15. You think what you want, I'll just look at the evidence that suggests otherwise. It's no big deal anyway.
Love all these musicians solo and together. GREAT EFFING SONG THOUGH!!! GOTTA BUY THIS ALBUM. Best thing is you can tell that the music feels good because they're all grinning! Awesome.
It´s not just their skill on the instrument, a true genius in music is what Richie Kotzen does in stage, i can guarantee and asure that he is one of the best performers ever, you have to listen him live, it´s not about lights, a show, no it´s about skill, mature and concept... trust me, hearing Rk live will blow your mind...
These stellar musicians are on a whole different level above any of the QUOTE music 🎶 these can't even come close to touching these cats. FUKIN INCREDIBLE I just wish we could hear this amazing music 🎶 on a local radio station. Unfortunately not very many people even know who these guys are. ABSOLUTELY UNTOUCHABLE
Saw a performance of this the other night on VH1 Classic from the 2014 Sonisphere Festival. I was not even aware of this band prior to that, but the performance blew me away. Really fucking great stuff, and every member of the band is a virtuoso talent at their particular instrument. I was already familiar with Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan. I'm not familiar with the Singer/Guitarist, but he's brilliant as well, and this is a really cool song. I'll probably wind up getting these guys' album. Good stuff!!!
Take a minute to study up on Richie Kotzen; you'll be glad you did. I think he came out of Poison originally, but quickly moved beyond dumb hair-metal to stand out as a really unique and genuine artist. This is a guy who grew up with a love of hard rock and Motown, and those sensibilities, together with mad guitar and vocal skills make him a brilliant package. He's so good, he did duets with the great Greg Howe on guitar!
mano a mano Actually Richie Kotzen started off as a shred metal guitarist on Shrapnel Records in the late 80's, and by the time he joined Poison he had evolved past shred metal to a more rock/blues based sound, so the only Poison album he was on (Native Tongue) was really bluesy as opposed to the traditional Poison sound. His solo stuff is amazing and "Change"/"Get Up" are both well varied albums that showcases his diverse style. His stuff with Mr. Big is also worth a listen, that's how I discovered him.
I'm tied of those people who still ditto to cite Chris Cornell. Richie has his own voice and his singing style is totally different. Richie has sung his own songs since he produced the album "Fever Dream" in 1990 which was much earlier than Chris Cornell's first solo album (released in 1999), although CC had sung in Soundgarden before then. I have listened to Richie's music since late 80's... people who compares his vocals to CC's look like a really new and fickle fan. Probably they don't know the album "Mother head's family reunion" either.
So refreshing to hear these guys together. A powerhouse trio of 3 gods. Love this band! Back to raw rock and roll with great riffs, killer hooks and oldschool production. Freakin awesome!
I should be kicking my own ass for not discovering Richie Kotzen or the Winery Dogs. I only found out about Richie like 9 months ago. I’m so amazed by Richie’s work that I even bought his signature Victory amp. Better late than never I suppose. 🤘🤘🤘 I hope they come through Chicago in the near future.
