Tij Iginla is a name draft. Utah is banking on selling some tickets to the uninitiated in Utah that MIGHT recognize the name. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
The name is definitely part of it, as I think they want him to be the face of the franchise like Jarome Iginla was in Calgary. But Tij was also a projected top 10 pick, so they get a very good player as well.
As a Habs fan all I have to say is that for the first time in years, the fanbase seems stoked with the pick. Add moving up from 26th to 21st to draft Hage, and it's pretty hard to not see Montreal as one of the biggest winners on the day.
I'd like to know who Hughes wanted at 21 that was worth the 2 picks, no way he thought Hage would still be there. I'm happy as hell he was. I'm just curious who he was after, or was there a trade in the works that never materialized.
Thankyou for all the amazing content, I from Germany and just got into nhl few years ago and you have greatly helped me learn lots about the league! Keep up the awesome work!!
Flames got the leading scorer of the ushl this year (last year celebrini) and Zayne like what a fucking draft from them. Also happy with my Montreal pics
The forwards were flying off the board, Luchanko is not much of a reach. Hes still 17 and did well at the combine. Hes fast and has high hockey IQ. We’ll see about Helenius and Buium
For flyers at least it's a clear long term plan: Jett is still 17 (Need a Center) and picking up more picks next year (Columbus 2nd deferred and Oilers 1st) but man, Buium is nasty. Flyers have smaller DMan and that's why they didnt draft Buium, but Drysdale and York will FAs when Buium is in his prime. Will say as far as trading back, Buffalo couldn't move back from 14 so don't think flyers had much an offer. Clearly we value Buium much more than NHL teams since so many passed on him and no one 15-19 wanted to trade up for him.
I’m shocked Buium fell that far. I had him in my top 4 & best dman in the draft. Buium and Faber are going to be filthy for the Wild. And Demidov is sick. Feels like another one of those russians who falls in the draft due to KHL scares and everyone regrets 5 years later in re-drafts. (Kucherov, Kaprizov, Michkov, Tarasenko come to mind)
The only thing Davidson has proven up to this point is that he can acquire draft picks. If he knows what to do with them remains unanswered. Not happy with the Levshunov pick, after trading away a 2nd round pick to move up two spots in the first round they reach for Boisvert, passing on Eiserman, Hage and Greentree and then trading away both second round picks to reach again for Vanacker. This has been a terrible draft for the Blackhawks.
i don't know why people is sleeping on Catton guy is the third best FW behind Celebrini and Demidov. Seattle with Beniers, Wright, Catton thats an insane core center for years to come. Catton could end up being a top 3-5 player in a redraft and a steal.
Hawks had a good draft Took one of the best defenseman in Levshunov and I think considering he had a torn his labrum and still put up 82 points Vanacker was a great pick. The team will still be bad next season and can always get Bedards linemate next season
@skmidc1124 yeah I would have preffered demidov but levshunov isn't a bad pick, I'm not sure about boivert, but I'm not sure why people say vanacker was a reach from some of his highlights I like what I see.
@@clawitzeristhebestpokemon8765 Same. I actually like Boisvert's game as well, though the skating he should def work on. I can see why some are disappointed, our selections this year may seem underwhelming and depending what your expectations were it could've actually been so... but I'm going to trust Davidson on this one, and I guess we'll see how it all pans out later. Still very excited :)
If Sennecke's upside is more like the last twenty games he played, no one will complain... If that isn't the case, Verbeek better start making deep playoff runs soon. Honestly, Sennecke looked incredible at times. If he can keep growing his game there is a legit chance he is something special. The thing is, there are no guarantees and lots of question marks until we see what he does in San Diego next year and if he is able to do great things at the next level. Big risk at third overall but Verbeek has made solid picks so far. We'll see.
As a habs fan, I would have been happy to pick him at 5 (was my n-3 after Celibrini and Demidov). Very high upsides. Ducks going to have a big and super talented top 6 soon.
As a Ducks fan, I don't hate the Sennecke draft tbh. He still needs to grow, but once he gets in the League (maybe the same year as Solberg?), they could help the team in the playoffs.
So freaking excited that we got Eiserman. He was my top guy for the whole year, even when his stock was falling. I never thought in a million years that he would fall to us.
Utah's pick makes a lot more sense seeing as they picked up their difference maker on D in sergachev. They lose Moser though who I think is really good. I wonder if they will make a play for Montour. He'd be a really solid add to that
Flyers are hoping Luchanko can reach a higher level than expected because he is one of the youngest players in the draft, but you shouldn't be taking him over Helenius or Buium. Flyers will be loaded for the 2025 draft though with 3 1st's, 3 2nd's and 2 3rd's!
I think Luchanko was a late riser in this draft as more teams watched him. He probably wasn't going to last through the teens picks. Probably the reason they didn't trade back much further was they had info another couple teams before pick 20 were very high on him too.
Im super nervous with this Yakemchuk pick especially at 7 I feel like we couldve traded back to pick him. Putting that aside I think Yakemchuk has a lot of raw talent but his defending off the rush is very concerning which goes hand in hand with his skating being quite weak. Hes a very raw prospect so I hope the Sens can develop his skating (which they have a good history of) and that Yakemchuk can develop and hit his top 4 potential more risk than I think the Sens shouldve gone with and hes likely 3-4 ywars away from being an NHL regular id expect he needs at least 1 year in the AHL after 2 seasons in the WHL
Really hoping the Sens move Chychrun for a decent package tomorrow otherwise im going to be getting worried about the Sens losing leverage in a Chychrun trade when teams will know they need to move him in order to fit in their FA signings unless Staios has something else up his sleeve
As a hawks fan i want Rodger McQueen so much just because of the name, and hopefully we don't finish bottom 3 and land more around where McQueen is projected right now
Winner-isles for keeping their first-for once-and seeing eiserman fall into their laps. Flames winner too for grabbing parekh. utah, sens, and kraken will regret that one.
@@jordynbebus6641 Buium's a really good defender at the college level as a 17/18 year old. Just because he puts up points doesn't mean he's bad defensively.
The Devils made a great pick. As a Capitals fan, I'm not happy about Silayev coming to New Jersey to boost their defense. They have scoring, they need defense, and they got it with Silayev.
The guy the hawks picked at 19th I think was a good pick because they need physicality. I do think they should have picked demidov, but they do have frank nazar and a couple other strong forward prospects. They don’t have great right d and I am sure they will eventually buy out Seth jones or find a way to trade him and retain salary
wild and habs absolutely crazy good first round. The iginla pick was purely a name pick he’s a good prospect but their need was a defenseman not a very large fan of the pick
Bennett Sennecke appeared to be a bit of a reach although I hadn't been very familiar with his name before he had been picked by the Ducks at third overall. Yet before the Leafs picked Ben Danford at 31st overall, I hadn't been familiar with his name either. There may very well be some busts and steals from this Draft particularly with multiple rounds still to go. Yet among past NBA and NHL drafts, there's no doubt Connor Hellebuyck, Felix Potvin, Jamie Benn and Pascal Siakam were steals despite having been picked outside the top-10 in their respective draft years. Raph Araujo (Raptors), Nail Yakupov (Oilers) and Griffin Reinhart (Isles) were picked in the top-10 of their respective NBA or NHL Draft years but turned out to be complete busts.
It's funny, every single thing I saw before the draft about Yakemchuk was like "He's a strong, nasty player who makes it really hard for the opposition, and also he scores a massive amount of goals... but he's just not as good as the others" I have a feeling the Sens made a really smart decision with him
I know no one will do it this way but this video should be done 5 years after the draft to know who won. But I will say that anaheim 3rd pick was a head scratcher.
I liked Buium better than Dickenson for the sharks, but then i learned what a minute eater Dickenson is. I can't say im disappointed. Dickenson reminds me of Bouchard but it could be the coaches in london that like those long strech passes and one timers from the point. Regardless, he will be an amazing qb on the powerplay for the sharks.
@@zachhaist6426 obviously the dude was rookie of the year, and beat out Celebrini. That's why I was ticked, but Dickinson is younger and him being a go to guy on the London Knights doing 30 mins a night is crazy.
I know and the way he skates pairing him with Michkov would of been fun to watch. I don't know enough about Jett on what his offensive potential is or if he would be a good center on the Michkov line.
@brianawilk285 from what I've seen they thought he would pair really well with him. Lots of people praise his high hockey IQ, passing, and speed. He is also the youngest of the class so he has time to grow which also played into the pick
Pretty sure most of us (if not ALL of us) aren't NHL GMs. GMs with armies of scouts and people way more qualified to parse the info of these players and make decisions about the future of their respective teams. Let it play out.
So Montreal after having the worst first round or one of the worst in 2023 has had the best in 2024? Man im excited for the future of my Habs. I was always excited. But now im VERY excited with possibly a Kucherov esk franchise player.
Nothing wrong with Reinbacher's pick imo. Big right handed mobile dman go early in every draft. We see it every year. Just look at Levshunov, if he's lefty, he doesn't go 2nd overall, i can guarantee that
@@maxpatenaude2115people are sleeping on him. He's gonna be a good player in the NHL, a good contrast to Hutson and with their draft picks this year, it's looking bright in the future
The Dallas Stars not take EJ Emory. Or trading back is kind of disappointing to me... We do this every time it comes to RHD... Lundkvist is NOT an answer. Unless the put him on the medieval rack and stretch him, plus put him with Barry Bonds as a personal trainer. MAN... Elick, Mews and others.. And we have no picks Better not do to Eiserman what has been done to O Wahl
Idiot all the picks made sense considering who they already have in their prospect pool and with a top pick next year they can add a top forward to pair with Bedard
