I've seen some others mention it, as well, but this scene really shows that Kima was a hypocrite when it came to being PO-lice that obeyed the law. She will snitch on McNulty and not identify Wee-Bay as a shooter, but she'll beat the living hell out of a suspect already in custody? What makes this acceptable? Also, Daniels wanted Kima to not be left alone with Bird because "She'll cut his ass." So, Kima was OK with abusing her police authority to inflict injury on suspects, but she was moral?
Thanks so much. I always found something unsettling about Kima but was having trouble putting it into words. You nailed it right on the head. She's a hypocrite.
Dam Cre I thought these kinds of moral gray areas are one of the big points of the show. I don't think there are any fundamentally good or bad characters, just products of circumstance.
+Dam Cre Ain't no justice in here. Just us. I think you get the idea. Western District is barely America in the Wire sometimes. McNulty says "I thought this was Baltimore" when Judge Phelan says its the US so open court and after a suspect gets thrown into a paddy wagon he says "this is America" and a cop sternly points at him saying "Wrong! West Baltimore". Occupied territory, that's really what it was.
Ironically at the end of season 5 she feels the need to gain a conscious and tell the truth even though she let these illegal acts of violence and brutality go unpunished
@@MayoPickles I know this is a year old, but the beating of Bodie still isn't justified because he was already in custody. He could be charged with assaulting an officer...but that is about it.
Kima looks so dumb running down that hill...she clearly doesn’t care about the cop who was punched...saw what was happening and thought ‘man, what a perfect opportunity to show the boys what a tough little cookie I am, I better move quick before they bundle him into the car”
Yeah man that's why I love this show. No heroics or over glorification of the cops....just the harsh cold truth. A bunch of frustrated, underpaid cops working in a crack infested war zone.
dude, the show runs alot deeper than that, but if you wanna play that way, the show also encourages drug dealers, personaly i would rather people be encouraged to beat up drug dealers than to encourage drug dealers themselves
Replying to a 15 year old comment: The show definitely doesn't encourage drug dealers - out of the main drug dealing characters, like 95% of them end up either dead or in prison. The only exceptions are Slim Charles (who will probably die anyway at some point in the game) or Marlo (who somehow gets out, but who knows his future and will he be able to really move on (as seen in the scene when he starts that fight on the corner and almost gets shot). The show shows how futile and sad the whole business is, whether your in "The game" or a cop
but even when they're behind bars some of them come out of jail doing the same thing! so in a sense it's not enough. but it's still wrong to beat on people, it's also wrong to sell drugs!
drealm what you just did was comparing a civil servant to a social parasite. Your a policeman you should be higher than that, thats what my uncle was taught and hes a lutenant. I got Seasons 1-3, I know how deep it is. Putting them behind bars is enough punishment.
