_"To continue Idris' character after this high point of the third season, would've been to serve character and not story"_ -- Far too many shows today just can't get this concept down.
@Ogma Dagda That would've been great, just have ghost String shaking his head and muttering "McNulty, you sick muthafucka" during the serial killer storyline when McNulty's working up the corpses
@@mikeo5003He was a bad cop, a great desk detective, and a great teacher. I got over his antics in the first season because he never hurt someone with ill intentions again. Yes, he killed the black undercover cop at the end of season 3 but that was from fear and stupidity. He wasn't some weak guy that was trying to be "the man" like he was, early in the first season.
The stories of mike, randy and dukie get me the most. They represent the kids that do their best to avoid a life that was already chosen for them and are eventually forced to eat the shit life threw at them.
And Namond Brice, the biggest screw-up in S4, ends up being the one to have the biggest turn-around; being granted a new start with loving foster parents & a new school environment. The rest become a street thief, a foster-home deliquent and a heroin-user who steals scrap for a living.
This is why I love this show. It takes realism to a whole other level. Every shot captures the environment perfectly and it actually feels like I'm watching an in-depth tour through Baltimore.
What a fantastic show, and hell, what an amazing casting of actors. One better than another, really liked every single one of them, how they got into the character that they are in The Wire. They all have their unique charm. Jimmy, Stringer, Bunk, Lester, Bubs, Frank Sobotka, Daniels, Tommy Carcetti, ''Bunny'' Colvin, Carver, Herc, Omar, D'angelo, Chris, Snoop, Prop Joe, Duke, Michael, Namond, Prez and the list goes on Hell, even Marlo. I had a nightmare with that guy. Hats off to one hell of a TV show. 10/10
***** i was only playing mate...being a youtube idiot...nah you are right brilliant show with one of the best casts ever picked...strongly recommend the corner, has alot of the cast from the wire in it also
When they killed Stringer I REFUSED TO WATCH the 4th and 5th season.. For 3 days... Consider that I've seen the 5 seasons in 12 days you can imagine how angry I was.
I wanted OMAR to survive.....he was a great character. Yes would of loved to see Marlo out. He was just too cold blooded. Very sinister. I mean all those bodies in those abandos??? Phew. And Avon could come home. But i loved bodie as well, but i wanted to see his character grow and evolve even more. What i didnt like was he really didnt have much of a storyline outside of standing on the corner. For being a Lt. He should have been able to have a decent crib, a car and where did he live?
Yeah, when it's wrote like The Wire. Else it's some kind of cheap railroad station litterature. I agree with your analysis tho. With series, you can go in depth with the characters and the story line. Really amazing how it can result when you have a masterclass writer.
We were upset that he wasn't in jail, placed there by McNulty. If The Joker ever dies, it would be criminal to know that anyone other than Batman did it.
@fooloof Definitely business decisions. But DAngelo is what got him killed. He should've ran that one by Avon before he had the hit done. You can't kill a Barksdale and get away with it. Avon wasnt a caring or compassionate character towards his family, but you better believe he rode for em the best way he knew how.
Gidina S Did you forget about Wallace’s remorse when he realized the full implications of his phone call? The guilt literally turned him into a drug addict. Also, we don’t know what Brandon had done, but we never see him kill or even shoot anyone. I don’t think he deserved to die the way he did. Stringer Bell ordered D killed and then played the comforting family friend to Breanna after making her think her only son killed himself. That’s one of the coldest things I’ve ever seen.
Many series have come close but no series I have ever watched has had me hooked like the Wire. You can watch it 3,4 even 5 times and still learn more each time than a single season of some shows.
Excellent show The hoppers in school was a great part of the story it shows how it starts Everything begins with how you were raised Parents that can't take care of themselves sending their babys out unprepared and the cycle repeats
I just started watching the wire about a month ago & I like how 3 of the black characters from the walking dead are in it. Cool to see them all in completely differant roles.
I Start WATCHING FROM season 1 on....It still has me wanting more. Love to see the actors now showing up on different movies, shows, music videos and reality shows. Talking about career cases, thus was a career series!
after being a FAN of the wire for years now, ur comment has validity. But in my opinion, that show CAN NOT FUNCTION if u remoeve JUST ONE character from it...all the characters are awesomely depeicted
Jimmy K Nick for me he's in my opinion very relatable, also he could have been a mayor player in the criminal underworld and he's I think a little bit like me in a way.
Haven't seen the 5th season yet but I'm with you on Bunk and Freamon being great characters. But season 3 did me in on McNulty. McNulty was the definition of a douche bag, as he banged chicks and got drunk out of his mind every single night, all while providing 0 support for his family and consistently pissing off his coworkers with little to no consideration for anyone other than himself. Part of me thought he was never gonna grow up. Glad he seemed to get his stuff together in season 4, but by season 3's end I had all had it with Stringer and McNulty. They were bugging hard and both got what they deserved. McNulty finally realized he was a bum, but I despised the man he became in season 3.
The kids were amazing in their parts and I can't think of any other show that gives the time and effort in the story lines to the kids story and is so integral to the whole plot. Just a master class...no one is not giving it their all. They don't make enough of this class of show
Yeah, I mean it was kind of surprising considering how much work they put into developing his character but I think it was necessary in order for the plot to continue. I was devastated when Bodie died though, but at least he went out like a true solider, guns blazing.
Bodie and Omar, definetly my 2 favorites on the show, at least of the ones that died. Omar had it coming tho lol. He was getting careless. Omar is actually based on someone, and the person is still alive today.
FabyBaby 36 He's probably talking about that funny scene where Bunk and McNulty think they've got him talking about murder but it's an actual dog that they killed.
Sonja Sohn in the next Burn Notice episode (6x13) and Seth Gilliam made a short appearance in the last Homeland episode ;-) Always good to see this great actors again :)
"we want people to close the show - every season of the show - the same way they close the book and to say, 'that was worth the time to read it, and really think about it." well done DS
Did you watch Show me a hero, the last tv show created by David Simon?! With many guests from The Wire: Kima's girlfriend Namond Orlando Lester Freamon Maurice Levy Brother Mouzone Michael Steintorf Only one episode left. A guest appearance from Bunky Bunk Moreland or Clay "shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit" Davis would be awesome ;-)
One thing change in the script that was needed was changing "Pryzbylewski" to "Przybylewski", cause the second one is a real polish name. They needed to add a line that told that the guy at immigration made a typo and it stuck. Sort of like Vito got surname Corleone. *That is my biggest criticism of the entire show, it is almost too perfect to be honest :P*
BEST TV SHOW OF ALL TIME!! Gomorrah, the Italian crime show based in Naples, Italy is right there with The Wire, but I still think the Wire is the best!
@@G-TV_TheOneManArmy SOA is my favorite show all time personally. The poster likes The Shield which is produced by Kurt Sutter who produces Sons Of Anarchy. I gotta say though The Sopranos is my second favorite and honestly the most well put together show I've seen. SOA hits differently though
Everything make everything complete the hell would be the hood without those figures because in the sense it is all about a bag is just different ways to get it
I only watched this for the 1st time a few weeks back and truly its right there up top as one of the best tv shows ever made. I rate BSG, The Wire, Agents of Shield as the best shows ever written.
I live in asia and slangs is also different to 2-3 towns over. also we have street names whatever sticks though not all of us and we did not sling drugs. it seems i can say thats a similarity
Notice the Herc actor said 'pissed on'- that's because in the original script Omar was supposed to piss on Strungers body after he shot him but Idris Elba refused to go with it
