My first impression of Stringer was of a strong business Man, who was Stoic and Calculated. As time goes on, he begins to unravel, and that Aura about him vanishes. When McNulty says “Who the hell was I chasing”, he was speaking of the Stringer Bell we first saw. McNulty didn’t get to know Stringer like we did. He didn’t see all his fk ups and how he constantly got outsmarted. Stringer is a perfect example of how your appearance can fuel a false perception of you. Whether it be good or bad.
The way you broke down "double-speaking" is spot on.. Avon was definitely smarter than Stringer Bell & this was shown several times in the series.. But only a small percentage of the audience will be able to notice it..
Ppl assumed that since he didn’t speak with proper grammar and use big words that he was slow. Avon was the boss for a reason. He’s like most of us, struggle to articulate what we’re truly trying to say, but being able to convey the message so that you understand what he’s ultimately trying to explain.
@@JodieJoe26 In a technical sense, one only needs but a few words to articulate what needs to be said when proving a point. This is why you see a lot of TV villains giving out speeches or monologues before attempting to finish off their adversaries. In Avon's case, understanding the streets isn't quite like quantum physics like Stringer makes it out to be 😭🤣😂
Between the vocabulary and the poker face he walked around with it was hard to read him if you didn’t understand the words he was saying to you. The calm demeanor don’t help because peep how string didn’t notice he was on trial and every word he said was being used against him in the Court of Mouzone.
The average person watching the show wouldn't catch many of the words Mouzone used. I knew the words he used on the regular. Words matter to me. So, I speak succinctly, and specifically, if ppl are capable of understanding the words I use. If they aren't well-versed or well-read, I have to dumb down the way I speak. It's troublesome, and frustrating, to say the least.
"It's not about the business part, it's not that part of it, it's that other thang, the street is the street always!" Probably my top two favorite lines on the wire.
It correlates to what Marlo said, too... "you want it to be one way... but it's the other way." Both Stringer and the security guard thought that they could solve street problems through some formal method of diplomacy. They were wrong.
@@KtotheG reading ya comment just made me have that weebay “oh shit” moment lol that makes so much sense especially seeing that he was talking to a security officer which is a form of law enforcement lol
My grandad used to speak to all of us boys in code. Nothing fancy but he just spoke where you had to always think of different ways he meant something. Notice the way Avon looks at you when your talking to him. He’s barely breathing and watching everything about you in that moment to see where the real communication is. I know it because I’ve been raised to.
Stringer's stupidity was highlighted from the moment he gave the "ok" for Bay and Savino to take Orlando's money. Him being perceived as above Avon has always been beyond me.
Yup, common sense, natural smarts and instincts are way undervalued nowadays compared to the way people perceive authority derived and approved expertise in narrow fields
I can't believe I missed the word cues of that hospital scene! I caught the facial cue after Stringer said "them?", but never caught the "absolved" bit when Mouzone said that Avon was absolved. Excellent analysis! It's funny that you mention all of those books because that was a major callback to Dee's explanation of The Great Gatsby before his untimely demise. Sure, we saw Stringer do homework, but we never saw him as a voracious reader as Mouzone was. Like Gatsby, Dee, and many others in The Wire, no matter how much a person tries to change to make others forget their past (or make it look like they've changed), the past is always there. It'll catch up to them if they are not cognizant of their moves on the chessboard in The Game.
I love that scene bro, I’ll actually cover it soon. They use Fitzgeralds controversial statement “There are no second acts in American lives” which Deangelo fails to clarify it in my opinion. His explanation is more convenient to a different Scott Fitzgerald Quote.. “We are all caught between the past and the present, and we carry the burdens of both” Btw your the first person I seen bring up that scene which lmk your a real fan👌🏽💯
@A Man’s World Podcast Thanks, bro! That scene resonates with me because the theme that embodies the second Fitzgerald quote you used is prevalent from the very first episode of the series! Snot Boogie dealt with his past and present, and carried the burdens of both (to his end). I look forward to more of your analyses, brother!
Chris and Snoop are a scary duo but a brother that reads a lot of books with all that knowledge ….yeah i ain’t gonna lie i wouldn’t want to piss him off.
One thing I've noticed every man on this show that got overly emotional and went against their logical strategy ended up being their downfall. When Chris beat up Michael's step-dad and his DNA was left on the scene, when Omar came back after they murked Butchy, and Stringer got sloppy when Davis took his cash and ran. Just my observation I maybe wrong tho but you knew know.
Brother I have said it before and I will say it a thousand more times. Your understanding, dissection, vocabulary and presentation are second to none. Always a pleasure to watch and rewatch your content. It gets better and better.
It amazes me how no matter how many times I’ve watched the wire you’re still able to point out the biggest small details that not only add to the breakdown but clears the picture even more, appreciate your time & effort you put into each video.
The amount of research and the analysis of the characters or topics is A1. I always walk away with food for thought I have been thru the video catalog at least twice and get something new each time. The references to historical figures books psychology philosophy sociology man I be looking them up if I haven't been thru the material. I appreciate all the work you put in I hope you get the success and recognition you deserve. This is damn near if not a deep thought experiment. Anybody can tell you take your content seriously I'm stay tuned I'm
Well it's good to see you done playing them away games! You ready to get down to business and making more videos now!? Lol, still waiting for part 2 of your relationship with stringer bell! Good to see you back, oh and the statement ,"he read all those books just to come to visit Mozone and got read!" Very powerful! Great video! Look forward to the next one! Peace!
Brother Mouzone had fear over all of them. As soon as he stepped on the scene, everybody knew what time it was. Mouzone couldn't be bought, reasoned with or dealt with. Chris and Snoop, they knew they was about business, you have to avoid them. Mouzone, you don't know he has been watching you for weeks and catch you when you least expected. That was the only time I seen Avon scared, when popped up on him in the barbershop..As always brother, great video...
This is the only channel that’s worth waiting for. The voice, the background music. This shit feels like a movie in detail the way he breaks the wire down like coke to crack
Avon asked him if it was money as a last ditch effort to save his brother Stringer, who he already knew was weak and needed protection. He knew the whole time and was tryin to school Stringer, that’s why he had that drink with him, reminisced, and reaffirmed right before his death. And he knew Stringer couldn’t do the same.
Man, you gotta have a part 2. You can’t just leave it like this. Plus, I can’t wait to see Pt. 2 of Avon’s Leadership. Lastly, checkout my question on the Brice Family: Is Delonda Evil video. I’d like to see your response.
great video, as always! just saw michael get his first bones. season 4 goes wild! I grew up around a couple dukies...poor lil boy. we need a vid about lester freamon. gotta honor him and daniels the most. that stand tall at all times! much love mane. 💪
I initially thought, your very first analysis of "The Wire" was 'cool'! Since then; you've gotten better and better each episode. I applaud the time you take putting them together bc, I know it takes time. I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times, so I always tend to overthink, as well as think of of extra spins, I would put on your videos. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You have superceded my expectations. Bravo👏🏿. Shalawam my Brother!
Your analysis of this show and it's characters is truly top tier and 2nd to none as far as I'm concerned. Keep grinding and I look forward to Omar vs Brother Mouzon🔥👊🏾
Yes your back !!! Another video that had me thinking in different ways about my favourite show. Your dialogue is amazing as always, keep them coming buddy
Brotha Mouzone basically got a full confession from Stringer while lying in that hospital bed. Brotha embodies true wisdom while Stringer is just a wannabe.. Chess and checkers on full display.. Another great breakdown video from you again I can't get enough 👍🏻
THANK YOU, we appreciate you bro, your catalog has so much replay value, just like the wire does, you been a breath of fresh air and your breakdown and education within them are motivating, if you never made another video, I APPRECIATE you Brotha, thank you, this shit makes my day when it drops, in that regard, Please never Stop bruh ! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
The “He&He” breakdown was dope. I just start goin back to school. English was tough. My professor is obsessed with pronouns being on point….I should send her this clip.😂🔥👍🏾
Damn bro you got me into the wire before I even watched a episode and gave me a better understanding on things first hand . It’s crazy cause this analysis is more like lessons and game you just giving mfs for free … ion even do shit like this but you a real one bro we need more content man
Love your work. I need that Kennard/ Omar dynamic. Also interested in seeing what made Freeman the best detective on the force. A Bunk perspective would be cool too.
I was always partially knowledgeable about that whole BroMu situation. After you broke it down like that it makes things so much clearer. Good looks once again on the wire content.
🔥 take as always. You catch everything that went over my head. I’m rewatching The Wire with a whole new mindset now. Every time I think I learned it, I learn more lol.
I rarely comment, but you are making the DEFINITIVE "The Wire" analysis series. Nothing else is even comparable, from production to the economy of clips vs. speaking, to the watchable length and I could just keep going. These videos, properly catalogued, should be included as an additional disc in the official series set. Rare, real and honest talk about one of the best shows ever made. I look forward to every video and appreciate your hard work, thanks!
Brother is the key character for big part of the show. He reminded Avon about his reputation which what street is all about. Brother exposed String intentions to Avon, brother also reminded him that Prop Joe's manipulations through String towards Avon's operation. String was money hungry and ENVY man that is played by Joe (Donette situation explained a lot about his goals). He was not a real friend as we all saw his intentions by not informing Avon truthfully whilst Avon was in prison. We should all think about, if Avon was not in String's life what could he do? Brother put String in his place made him pay for it and provide us an information that Avon's reputation is all the way to NY not only WB like the other gangsta ;) Thank you for the great content - I hope you consider a podcast at some point. Peace!
From your number one fan from Kenya. After your podcasts, i want to rewatch the wire from season 1. You could have made a great literature teacher the way you break the series down. Kindly do for us game of thrones in the near future if you can. Cheers. Alpha, Kenya, East Africa
Hey man, this is great content of, in my opinion, the best TV show of all time. I am a juvenile parole officer in my state and I especially use your videos about the kids in season four to spark conversation as they can relate to one of the kids in season four. I will donate soon to show my support.
Thank you for these video essays. Your thoughtfulness and understanding of character motivations, institutionsl decay and economic forces make your presentations the best.
I bet even David Chase would be surprised by the details in your breakdowns of the show. Stringer was mostly about image, while Avon was the real deal. People assumed Stringer was more intelligent than he really was because he knew how to front, but he lacked Avon's natural instincts and street smarts. Avon would NEVER have fallen for that faucet scheme.
As someone who was barely born when the show came out(born in ‘99) I have a profound appreciation for your page. I watched the show straight through in February. Your break down and points of view makes me appreciate this masterpiece even more
I can't wait till you start doing break down of "Snowfall" once the series ends. I can't wait hear your thoughts. Sn: You ever thing of doing breakdowns of The Wagstaffs i.e Cheese, his son Randy, and Uncle Prop Joe.
Stringer thought he was the smartest one in the room, when actually he was the biggest fool. Three examples: 1) The situation with Orlando. String organized the hit without talking to Avon first, which not only resulted in Orlando's demise, but led to Kima getting shot. Luckily for Avon and String, she lived. Had she actually died, oooohhh boy! 2) Trying to get in league with Clay Davis. Now I do get that Stinger was trying to be more business minded, and wanted more than just the drug game. However the way he was going about it was all wrong. Stringer was trying to rush his way to the top of the business world instead of starting at the bottom. Clay Davis was already a shark in the water, and looked at Stringer like the guppy he was. The moment he smelled blood, it was a rap. Which is why it was way too easy for Clay Davis to finesse him. He even went so far as to try to warn Stringer that he wasn't ready, and he still didn't listen smh. 3) Him setting up Brother Mouzone. Omar was already on the hunt for everyone responsible for Brandon's mutilation and murder. So for him to lie to Omar and set for Brother to get hit, that's when Stringer messed up. A professional stick up man who can capture you from every angle without using a camera, and who also has a couple bodies with his name on them, and a professional hit man who has more bodies than a Chinese cemetery, and you decide to pin the two against each other?! That's when Stringer signed his death certificate.
This is the best video of yours that I've seen. I really missed the importance of words. It goes to your point about rep that Mouzone asserts a distinction between being played and being betrayed, since betrayal is much harder to avoid than being played, and would generate more sympathy in a world where betrayal is considered wrong, but people playing each other is normal.
I’m from Philly and bro bro making us proud ! These videos get better and better i watch the wire so differently now maaaane i watch n listen to ppl different after watching
