The Witcher 3 makes its way to the Nintendo Switch, but how does it hold up on such weaker hardware? Check out our full site: www.nintendolife.com Like us on Facebook: / nintendolife Follow us on Twitter: / nintendolife
@@tacticalnewfie2922 sure. However the largest memory of any snes game was 6mb, with most being between 0.23mb an 4mb. The witcher 3 has a minimum required free space for download of 32gb. For reference skyrim is only 14.5gb.
Yaya-yay Yaya-yay Yaya-yay-yay-ya-yay. I’m currently knee-deep in Skellige on the PC version and I’ve been hanging out there for an absurdly long time cause I just love being there. The music is amazing, the requirement to sail around is great, the culture is fascinating, the mountains and ancient ruins make exploration far more challenging and rewarding, and all the flooded caves full of whole bones and ancient magical architecture... What an amazing place filled with amazing people.
Monsterkiller 418 yes many games can run on the switch but every game? No. Witcher 3 even on console had many frame rate issues etc. Every game can’t run on that little hardware on the switch, like try to make run Cyberpunk, Red Dead 2 or even Tlou2 on the switch. That’s literally impossible
The complete game on a cartridge is absolutely amazing, these developers outdone themselves in optimizing this game for the switch. It looks great considering the hardware’s limitations; definitely exceeded my expectations.
@@GetAwesomeGamingcompared to the 360 the Switch is a powerhouse and the console that can obviously compared to the Xbox and PlayStation then it’s not a powerhouse but honestly the Switch is comparable to the Xbox 360 and PS3 which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion.
Capcom, what do you have to say about Resident Evil 2, now? You were once the guys who gave us Alpha 2 on Snes, Resident Evil 2 on 64, Alpha on Gameboy Color. Come on guys... Come on!
yes give us a downgraded version of a next gen game with terrible muddy graphics and blurry vision lmao Are you broke and have no other consoles or even a PC?
@@GMOTP5738 Not broke, hate PC and got an Xbox one. I won't buy Witcher 3 on Switch, would buy RE2 even being so downgraded, just because, I love having games in my collection, that demanded so much effort from the companies. I can play Street Fighter Zero everywhere, but every time I put it in my Gameboy Color, it is something magical to see that gameplay in such a weak console. Off course, if you were born 5 years ago, you know nothing about games, you just understand about graphics.
GrimOne I have an Xbox and PS4, a gaming pc and the switch and guess what? I still welcome any and all ports to the switch as long as they’re done correctly and play smoothly. Graphic whores are some of the most annoying gamers out there. News flash, graphics don’t make a good game, they just add to it. You can take away good graphics and still have an amazingly fun game
I'm looking forward to seeing Geralt in Super Smash Brothers and the inevitable fan fiction where he bangs Princess Peach as Mario sobs bitter betrayed tears.
Can't wait to get my copy tonight, The Witcher 3 being portable is awesome! Wish they'd added a save transfer feature like Divinity Original Sin 2. Hopefully the port of The Outer Worlds ends up being as good if not better then this port!
I don't mind These games being graphically reduced and a bit blurry considering that in overall for the most time you're playing it on a much much smaller screen so often not even noticable. I'm really happy they started doing this, bringing games like this to Switch..Totally don't mind the graphical reducement and downscaling the resolution (thats why blurry i guess)...Still looks good and runs fluidly and having a rich game like this on a switch its realistically an achivement. (To be honest...I played witcher 3 on my PC on Ultra settings...And now watching this a footage from Switch which is blurry on my main PC Monitor screen..Still not an issue to me....I don't know why people bother much with graphics..I used to play Sega mega drive graphic games sooo...Maybe people complaining are those moder era kids gamesr :P ..I'm never bothered much with graphics as long as the game is fun to play, runs well and for the visual looks decent...I mean..Look how awesome and beautiful is Children of Morta...Its Freaking Pixel Game and yet so beautiful and inspiring!)
i love this game. played through the main story on stream and people were shocked how great it looked on switch after latest update that added graphic options to make everything look and run smoother. graphics are no longer blurry and you can increase or decrease the sharpness, render distance and so on. im thinking about getting a second copy of the game because i feel that this game will be worth money some day and since im a switch game collector having a sealed copy would be nice. i wish cd project red would port over witcher 1 and 2 so we have the whole collection not just cause it would make the collection complete, but also because in witcher 3 you have to answer questions from past games to change how the story continues, but people can dream right? i did learn that there are still some bugs in the game even after latest update. some monster nests you can still farm for certain items that will respawn after resting and makes it easy to farm for gold. some quests are also bugged around the triss questlines where when complete they still show as failed till you reload a save and figure out why it happened. this game is definitely worth buying tho and cd project red did a great job with this port. the music, the monsters you fight, the changing of weather, gwent the card game, the story, the voice acting all of it is great and just like skyrim this game is also addicting. even if you havent played this game before not knowing what its about its still worth picking up.
Tip for new players, if you want the best sunset screen caps you need to be deep in the Velen bog. Near the shack were you get the Foglet contract. I swear it was the most beautiful one I've ever seen there. Edit: just make sure you're above level 15.
mason essary Well Red Dead Redemption 2 is like living the life of a cowboy and making decisions that impact the growth of your world. Witcher 3 is like living the life of a contact killer/monster hunter in the middle of a national war where you see a lot of bad shit going down and you’re constantly making decisions that impact whether people live or die, and how the world sees you. There are plenty of similarities, but there isn’t a way for me to adequately describe the story structure and quest design of the Witcher. Some of the side quests could have been stand alone games. I think you’ll really like it, buddy.
Mark Joshua i don’t necessarily love rdr2 because of the graphics. Its mostly the amazing story and good gameplay i love. Knowing that i think witcher will be a great game.
Never played it.but interested in buying it now. Witcher 3, overwatch, baldurs gate, and luigis mansion3. When's the last time we got so many good games in one month. Granted two are direct ports but still.
I never played the original release on my PS4 or PC, but I get the feeling that I'll get used to the graphics as long as it runs at a steady clip. I can relate to the getting used to the graphics bit like how I came into acceptance with Warframe on the Switch. The textures were muddy and there were weird stuff on screen at times but after a few play throughs I didn't mind the jankiness at all.
Daniel Eberly I have the day one Edition for pc, I bought the limited for Xbox one because my girlfriend wanted the statue and the only limited still available was on Xbox one, after that I bought the goty for pc and this summer the goty for ps4 to play it in my second home where I have a ps4 pro and don’t have my pc. I know I’m crazy.
This is yet another Switch port that I feel like I am required to purchase. It runs silky smooth with maxed out settings on my PC and I play it for a few days at a time and have been slowly making my way through it for over a year, while also playing other games in-between. It’s so amazing that I don’t want to miss a thing and I’m absurdly thorough in my exploration. As a result, I cannot possibly start over with an inferior version. But the prospect of handheld Geralt is amazing. I’ll have to force myself to await a sale and grab it for 20 bucks, though I wish I could reward CDPR by buying it at full price again. For anyone who has not played this amazing game, buy it immediately at full price. Despite the lowered graphics, I believe the Switch will be the best way to play it. Like Breath of the Wild, the freedom to play anytime will make this massive undertaking of an experience much more accommodating to your schedule and lifestyle, and that will massively enhance the experience. I wish I wasn’t so deep in the PC version or that I could transfer my save, cause I’d love to have another Breath of the Wild-type experience on a system so ideal for those sorts of games. This game is like Breath of the Wild with the things that game was lacking(combat complexity, enemy variety, graphic sex, crafting, real sailing, graphic sex on top of stuffed unicorns, character development, child murder, and difficulty that increases rather than decreases) and cranks them up to eleven. The Switch is a fantastic way to keep yourself absorbed in this amazing world, when being required to chain yourself to the TV would ordinarily cause other responsibilities to make most adults lose interest after they get pulled away for the 100th time. Handheld mode allows you to sneak a few minutes of playtime in while also taking care of other things. Games like this are what make the Switch so perfect for busy adults. It lets us get wrapped up in a huge world like we did before we had so many responsibilities pulling us out of the experience. Simply a must-play.
I just finished the Main Story again on PS4 since I finished reading the books and playing the previous games. However, I'm holding off on my next Expansions playthrough until tomorrow for the Switch release. I love that the game allows me to start a new game that is Expansions only. Cannot wait to have portable Witcher considering it will be a busy time for me in regards to travelling for a bit.
Picking it up tomorrow, never got into it before but with the Switch I've a feeling all my other games are pretty much going to be ignored for the next while lol
Jesus! Seeing Alex say "Hello there, lovely people" with the monster moving his lips almost in sync near gave me a stroke. Thought Alex gained a pound or 120 there for a moment.
Agree with this review based on my PC version. Except that the game works well on my PC without any FPS drops. Some bugs though for me and other small anoying things like Geralts movement in combat sometimes as you said.
No one has ever complained about the combat in Witcher 3 because compared to what else is out there in the RPG genre it's awesome. When you compare the Witcher 3 to classics like Skyrim, the combat is revolutionary. It actually feels like you're hitting something in the Witcher 3 and you have to defend, parry and then attack. It's great so that's not an issue.
StellaRhyme3 the only reason people complained about combat is because the slower animations were the only “fault” of the game. And also because they were comparing it against blood borne which also came out that year. Imagine being compared to blood borne and the only thing that’s a problem is the slower animation speed of his movement and Attack animations. That’s like op of the pack combat ARPG, so I think the Witcher can be forgiven for that especially considering that CDP’s last game was the Witcher 2 which had even clunkier combat. I think by the time they make a Witcher 4 (which we know is on its way), people won’t be able to complain about the combat because CDP always greatly improve their games and mechanics in the next game.
My girl just got me a switch for my birthday, now I'm playing through Breath of The Wild, Odyssey, Smash Ultimate and Dark Sould Remastered on my switch while on set in between takes. Loving it! Knowing that after I finish these I can grab the witcher, skyrim, borderlands, and other such huge titles to play while I'm traveling for work. I'm absolutely infatuated with it!
But how often do you go out? And when you do, do you really want to take your $300 console out in public where people are shit and will try to take it.
@@GMOTP5738 u know... 4 hours is way more than u think, Its enough. Do u play more than 4 hours a day? I don't think most people can do that lol, besides, u can get a Anker charger & that would double the battery.
I will be taking the next 2 days off from work to play. Never played any of the Witcher series. It's going to be sweet being able to play this in my backyard. I will be pretty ticked off if this game is not playable starting midnight (EST). *Started playing this an hour ago in my backyard (along with my Anker Powercore battery recharger) while walking around between my veggie garden. Feels nice to loot and kill wolves in the forest while enjoying the "outdoors." I'll be taking this to the beach later jn the afternoon. I haven't felt this happy since Skyrim came out on the Switch.
The cool thing is its running on this initial switch version...so there is nothing stopping them from cranking up the visuals once something like a switch pro gets released.
Looks like I have LOTS of time to kill since I have to wait even longer for Doom Eternal on Switch... and I had only barely touched this game on XB1 so I feel compelled to try it again on Switch!
I never completed all the sidequests so I'm going to wrap things up on the switcher with my second playthrough! Best game I've played in the last 10 years
Buying my copy today, as should everyone else who enjoys western RPGs! They put SO MUCH effort into this port and took a huge risk putting it all on cart... amazing. We should be buying this game if not solely for the tender loving care CDPR radiates with their games. They're quickly becoming my favorite developer. ❤
@@JAx0211 I sure did. I went to Japan shortly after buying it and played it almost non-stop on the 19ish hour flight. Enjoyed every second, visual downgrade and all. Fabulous port!
@@ghaleon128 Niceee!! That sounds so great. I just found today about Witcher 3 on Switch since Im new to this. I mean, it's been two years since I have it, but since Dec with BotW have been a different feeling. Bec I played for those 2 yrs MLB 2022 then got tired and got into BofW thanks to RU-vid tutorials. I can't wait to hit W3 and a prequel game tk BoW. Your comments have very helpful to me to go out there and get them.
I'm playing it, I found a bug that does not let me continue, it's at the beginning in the combat tutorial, I'm suposed to use the quen spell and then I can't do anything. I tried to reboot the game, reload the last save, nothing works, could anyone help me? Thanks in advance
I wish I could afford this on launch day but I just don't think I can swing it. Perhaps I can try & get a family member to get it for me for Christmas. Here's hoping the first run edition with all the goodies will still be available by then.
I've never played this game. A friend of mine has so much animosity towards it so I never thought to try it out, even a used copy for my PS4. These days though pretty much my only game time is on the bus or away from home so I'm really tempted to give it a shot on the switch.
It’s on sale rn and I want another rpg that’s on the switch that I’ll sink tons of hours into so I’ve been watching a lot of reviews to find out if it’s the right fit for me.
Honestly, it kinda looks the same as when I play it over steam link. I wonder how the Switcher 3 is going to compare to the Stadia Witcher 3 that I am sure we are going to get. I would hope that Google and the cloud computing can put out a game that looks better then Switch hardware but bandwidth can be a tricky thing
Brando Boyer I have the PS4 version too but being military I am rarely home long enough to justify sitting in front of the tv for 100hrs & ignoring my kids 😂 ... this however can come on the ship with me 🙌🏻 win/win
@@paulpope5157 right on man! I have had the game for four years and just last week gave it a hard chance... I'm hooked. Also only get to play when I have chance between work and kids. Thanks for your service man, I'm Canadian, but anyone willing to fight for their country is a legend to me. I wish you the best and safe trips on the sea brother.
I never notice any graphical issues, and honestly, I don't really notice much difference when looking at comparisons. Also, I think it looks better on Switch than it does in review videos, maybe they updated the retail?
I never beat Skyrim until I got it on the Switch. I haven’t beaten TW3 yet, so I got it on the Switch. There’s a process of adaptation there. It’s just easier for a working adult with a family to finish long form narrative games in small bites.
The combat is just very simple most of the time pretty much dodge hit hit dodge rinse and repeat. There are rare encounters where you actually need potions and need to counter monsters with spells. But most of it can be done with dodge and hit. And unless you really delve into signs they are abit useless.
I bought it on a steam sale shortly after the last expansion came out. It is by no means my favorite game but it is damn good! I am not interested in buying it again, but i must say it is a miracle they got this game working. This game absolutely should not be remotely playable on the switch!
I must admit, I should have never played this on my PC before switch. The graphical decrease is so large it almost takes away from the biggest aspect of the game (the look). That said, the game plays great on Switch however, if you're into scenery or graphic detail play this on PC. Huge difference and it still to this day delves me into awe at each screen and how much detail they put into this game.
I have to say, been playing it on the Switch Lite and the battery holds up really well. Feels like BotW pulls more battery than Witcher. Battery is stubborn. How did they manage this black magic?? 😯
Actually amazed they go this running on Switch. I'm loving my third play through of this now! Would still recommend people pick up the PC or PS4 version of this if given the choice, but absolutely a no brainer purchase if you just own a Switch. Awesome port!
I have had this on Xbox for a while. I’m thinking about getting it on the switch so I can play it away from home. My switch lags on dragon quest builders though , I bet this game has some moments.
actually no...im really surprised but the framerate is really capped a pretty solid 30 fps. Sometimes when it's busy it drops to 25+ but that's about it. I bought the game and I was veeeery critical with it in the first place but it totally convinced me. It's an amazing work. When you play it in docked mode it's even steadier! Though i would recommend it to not play it on a huge screen :)
