This game got the renewed attention it deserves so much. It looks so much more improved in lots of areas. The original still holds up well for a 2015 open world game though.

Gotta say, the first time I booted up the game, I didn't notice any graphical differences. When I got to Velen though, the change is definitely noticeable. Textures are much sharper, grass is more dense and less blurry, the new weather effects like fog make Velen even more gloomy than before. I already played W3 with mods but I see that Nextgen looks much better than that.

The only thing I miss is how dramatic the old-gen wind was. The new one is far less agressive in comparisson. 😢

11:00 really minor thing, but I always really liked the way bodies of water looked in the original game. The rich, deep blue color with the turqoise edges + clear/lighter blue in shallow parts helped give this world more of its own identity as its own unique fantasy world, instead of just being generic/realistic water. So I was kinda disappointed to see they did a full makeover aka made it look more generic. Maybe I'm alone ha. Idk, original water I just thought was beautiful, exotic, and made the world feel more cool and epic. Not a big deal though.

Very nice comparison! This helps a lot. Not sure how this new gen update gonna run on my 3060 but i think im fine playing with RT off, im actually more happy to see the improved textures and lighting. The game already looked beautiful bfr the update 👍🏽

They toned down the spazzy trees, which I liked. The shadows are way too dark also.

Hello, I am a huge fan I watch your videos almost all the time I wondered if I could ask you to make a comparative video of Witcher 3 old gen on pc ultra Vs next gen on PS5 ? I find that it is interesting to see how much of a leap did we actually make from what the best pc's could push out at decent frames back then and what we have now on consoles :) Oh and I love the music in your works !

I love the next gen update. But the performance costs are quite heavy to be honest. The improved textures and models are immediately visible and shouldn't cost too much of a performance hit as it is usually more VRAM bound on modern GPUs. RT Reflections I feel like are not worth the hype. I prefer reflections on windows and mirrors, but on water it always look weird to me. RT Shadows are okay but not that noticeable while playing the game. RT Ambient occlusion is very nice but overall I feel like it makes everything look so much darker, which I don't really like to be honest. RT Global illumination is just so DAMN AMAZING and is the new thing I wouldn't want to play without. The visual upgrades it offers are so damn noticeable it's hard to go back. It makes everything look so much more cinematic I love it.

Lo único que no me convence mucho es que hayan disminuido el movimiento de árboles a causa del viento y la proyección de sombra, 0:50 que de momentos parece dibujada con regla, falta algo de suavizado o un difuminado en los bordes. Fuera de eso esta espectacular.

Im currently trying to finish up the PS4 version via BC and I'm experiencing corrected saves and game crashes on 4.00 update. When i started the PS5 version, I hope all the issues are resolved by then. The PS4 version still looks good though.

1:45 this part blew me away. What a lovely game.

Ambient Occlusion in the next gen version is a little bit too strong for my liking but other than that it's amazing.

The raytracing isn't really necessary, but damn does it give a lot of depth to certain scenes. The water also surprisingly looks good, usually with RT it's a little too glass-like (although the Skellige streams shown do look a little too calm and mirror-like). Unfortunately, it seems like the improved lighting and shading makes pop-in more noticeable. The difference of each LOD is accentuated, I mean. But when standing still it almost looks like real life haha.

The RT GI/AO adds so much to the city areas its shame to not use it... If CDPR fix those damn frame time stutters then I'm perfectly happy playing at 30fps (on PS5) to have the RT and better SSR. I was also very surprised at just how much FSR2.1 cleans up an image that's barely over 1080p. Very good 👍

No matter where you play Witcher looks great shows what you can do if you don't over bloat a game with gigantic open world and still lots to explore. I hope they don't change up their art style and stretch resources too high to get the fully open world in the new series.

Overall it is honestly a little hit or miss. It's more hit than miss though. I liked the old, strong wind _way_ more. Overall lighting in some areas is definitely better in the old too. One thing is for sure though, this was a _phenomenal_ comparison video, way better than most I've seen so far. Great job.

The ray traced global illumination, and ambient occlusion are great. As are the improved textures and meshes. The ray traced reflections have really bad pop-in presently though.

Hicistes un laburo absolutamente excepcional .. increible la manera en la cual llegas a percibir hasta el mas minimo detalle 😊 Personalmente me gustan muchos los detalles tambien, tomar mi tiempo para admirar lo mas que pueda ( aunque admito que hay veces en la cual mi naturaleza me lleva a querer ir rapido 😜 ) de hecho tengo varios screenshots de Mis juegos en Mis consolas justamente porque me gustan los detalles : un panorama, los rasgos de un rostro, el agua ( un detalle al cual siempre presto atencion porque parece ser dificil que se vea bien : hay juegos quienes ya tienen años y que se ven mejor en este aspecto que juegos recien salidos para la generacion actual ). Enfin, me gusta mucho tu trabajo y hace año que lo sigo, y aunque no soy muy exigente en cuanto a los graticos, siempre es de admirar cuando los quienes desarollaron el juego toman el tiempo ! ❤ Un abrazo ! 😉

This video literally made me install the game again, just to experience it with these new amazing and visually stunning graphics! The raytracking implementation in this game is extraordinary.

I am playing the game on PS5 and quality mode. I am pretty sure that the frames drop to 20-25 in villages/cities and combat. At some point I had several crashes (5-6 in a random forest region in White Orchid area) but that seems to be fixed since then. I hope all that issues get fixed soon, cause it's my first playthtough and the game is addictive but the colours on perfomance mode seem too outdated for my personal taste.

Honestly, after just looking at these very quickly, I prefer the oldgen in some of the scenes. Maybe as much as a third of them. (Aka. preferring nextgen in 2/3rds, and often by a larger margin than for those scenes for which it is the other way around.) Which goes to show that better realism isn't good in and of itself. Only if it is used in a way that actually makes things look nicer. Overall it's a great update though that makes the game look a lot better in a lot of scenes. Some scenes are really night-and-day better on nextgen. Very glad they updated it.

Any idea what are they using for relfection/refraction? Ray Tracing or PBR or both?

Si colocas una llama, se supone que tú sombra tiende a deformarse; soy muy fijado en esos detalles. Se supone que el trazado de rayos debería solucionar este aspecto, y el sombreado que se ve geométrico! aunque he visto que sigue sin comportarse realista.

Honestly, some things like wind and water seem to look better in the oldgen version of the game. Though, things like lighting, ambient occlusion, illumination look waaaaay more natural in newgen

Has anyone noticed that the RTGI causes a lot of bloom around things that are orange? It almost feels like they forgot to disable the artificial bloom from the game, but it's not bloom it's the game rendering global illumination that doesn't match the scene so you get this weird orange glow whenever there's a small amount of sand or an orange plant in direct sunlight.

There’s so much dynamism in the game’s weather effect on its environment… different level of movement of trees waving about in wind, or not moving at all etc.

So already that the game was magnificent, there I no longer have the words. You delight us! I can't wait to do it again, it's just beautiful. It's so realistic. Thank you very much for your work.

Overall better but there is something in bright day light that make skin colour to white in comparison to the older version. Light is better now, just like reflections but the temperature and colours isn't always on point in my opinion. Like takeing a picture from the last gen Iphone and comparing it to some older Xiaomis photo.

La penumbra con trazado de rayos se ve horrible, trata de matizar el sombreado con mayor número de fuente de luz; pero, pierde sombreado; lo estoy jugando ahora mismo en las dos versiones. Y en ese detalle me gustaba más antes de noche.

notice how the trees in the remaster version fade in and out when the wind blows on them and the original doesn't which is good, thats why when you have a resmatered version that they change the animation and textures , its good to have an option that switches between the original graphics and new ones because there are some parts that the original graphics are better at doing than the remastered ones

draw distance is kinda not maxed out on ultra plus, if you crank those settings in the file it will look even better. i turned rtx off to get more draw distance

Some of the "improvements" for the next-gen version are very subjective. At 9:48, for example, they downgraded the texture of tents for something incredibly generic that looks like going from a 4K texture to 1K but at the same time they greatly improved the textures of the barrels and crates. Some of the vegetation looks very blurry and dark now compared to the old version. In some cases, it looks like someone asked "how much reflection on the water should we go for?" and there was a loud "YES!!!" It pops up so much that it makes bodies of water look weird and generic, like lifeless mirrors.

I dont get how your game looks this good, i have everything on Ultra+ and for example my trees look like a blurry painting, here in this video i can count the tree leaves one by one, what magic did you use???

(10:36 tessellation seems better in old gen sometimes, like in those buildings here). (14:24 and 15:22 i got the impresssion they decreased the wind in the next gen vertion, everything seems still)
