Hmm, not what I was expecting. Although I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting but I don't know If I like the look of it yet. I like that they are showing gameplay before the campaign and not just relying on the IP to sell games, big respect for that.
Send a copy to Henry Cavill. Beside playing Geralt he is a fan of Witcher universe. He will sure show off a game. Maybe also Jason Momoa as he is going to play a Witcher in the "old world" times.
I'd love to see a coin with "charge" on a side and "bite" on the other as a stretch goal during the campaign. It'll be thematic (great, I've the 🎶"toss a coin..."🎶 song in my head now 😆) and fun at the same time and another option for ennemy activation during the fight for players
In the PvP fights. Fighting monsters and watching just other players thinking about their combos will exhaust you on the other hand. And if monster hunting is more beneficial than witcher brawls, they will not happen anyway (like attacking other players in Mage Knight... barely happens and often it was most beneficial for the players who are not involved...)
Letting other people control monsters seems like a great way to keep downtime down. Also not stealing each others earned trophies is very nice. The combat seems very nice and thought out. Curious how this will play with two since no betting will be happening. Looking forward to the next vid.
They made it that way so the others players may participate on your turn. But I dont think it results in a good implementation, because it seems there isnt a big decision to make
Great video. Congratulations. For solo combat, I would like to see an AI that acts based on the player's stats to decide if the monster charges or bites, just as if another player tooks control of it. Maybe a flow chart to help to decide which action the monster will takes before draw a card?
Quick and engaging.. no downtime as other may have fun too.. if only travel and adventure will have good story and mechanics then it may be amazing game! Don’t forget.. most important are really interesting player choices.. story and fight!
Z każdym kolejnym video widzę coraz więcej podobieństw do Middle-Earth Quest.
Personally for me the coolest thing among witcher abilities is their achelmical skills and knowledge. Beside simple magic tricks, Witchers are not more than hihly trained knights. To me it's the alchemy and their unnaturall resistance against different poisons, that help them become even more deadly weapon, is the thing that make Witcher special. So I really hope alchemy and potions will have some important place in the game!
It's not really controlling, you simply decide whether you want to charge or bite without knowing what they do. It's no different then throwing dice to decide, you are simply a mindless RNG and not controlling the monster
Sure, it's mostly a random factor. Why do we believe it's better than a completely "random" outcome? - It adds a little thematic flavor to the combat. - It adds emotion to player(s) controlling the monster. It depends on the group, but many experienced gamers really got into it and felt involved as they chose the Monster Attack. - You can observe what cards have been discarded as the fight progresses, and base your decision on that, increasing chances for a stronger monster attack.
@@GoonBoard I'm sure you guys have tested it a lot and I want nothing more than a witcher board game to be good. I'm one of the witcher biggest fan, heck my 2nd son name is Geralt. That's my opinion so far, it won't be engaging and other people will have to wait for more than 15 minutes until it's their turn to move their witcher again especially if all other player is fighting monster or dueling. But if you guys said this won't be a problem then I will give you guys the benefit of a doubt. But please2 make it better than the first witcher board game. You guys are already using the amazing art from Gwent, now you just need a solid gameplay
@@GoonBoard I would like to see something like each monster has 40 attack cards and if their health is 15 you randomly choose those 15 cards and then based on the information you've gathered (trail tokens) you could see 1-15 cards in their deck or top three cards so you know what cards to play against it to counter it, now the problem with this is I imagine combat might take to long because people are trying to crunch all the numbers to figure out the most efficient move
This is a must buy for me. Can we get a video before the kickstarter showcasing solo play? Is there an AI second player? Or is it just hunting monsters?
Mmm... I really want this project to be a success, this is easily one of my favorite franchises. But a combat seems way too long and a bit fidly, especially since it's a competitive game. If it was coop, other players would be a lot more engaged, even if not playing. I really hope I'm wrong and that longer gameplay sessions will show me otherwise ! Maybe seeing all the cards combos and understanding all the rules will help. Thank you for these videos!
It looks great, can't wait for the campaign to launch. I know we haven't seen the game board yet, but I'm hoping for a neoprene play mat. I absolutely love neoprene mats and upgraded tokens from cardboard to wood or plastic and in 3d instead of flat.
What happen when beast wins the duel - witcher dies and player ends game, we respawn as someone else or witcher is not dying but retreating from clash? Simply, what happens when player lost the duel?
There is no player elimination. If the monster wins, the player draws less cards at the end of the turn (to rest and lick the wounds). And the time lost is also painful here, but losing to a monster doesn't mean that you are out of the game.
Not gunna lie, I was hoping for some art that was different from their gwent versions. The art is great don't get me wrong, but I'd have loved some distinguished art for these iconic monsters
That's true what a lot of people said, this mainly should of been a story driven or multiple choice storybook game instead, shame really as they would of inticed board gamers more into this, the witcher old world crossed between near and far equals best seller
I think that the random choice between Charge and Bite is unnecessary, as the decision by the second player isn't strategic at all. And the attack is still random, because the card is not known to the active player. It would make more sense if the second player could choose the attack type after seeing the card and the active player could somehow react to the chosen attack type. But to be honest I would get rid of that system completely and replace it with a monster-specific combat deck.
I Gotta say I really want to like the game but for now, I've found a lot of things that concern me. 1. It's not a campaign game, witcher is about the story and quest and event, without it it's just too bland 2. The fight with a monster is just engaging for that one player and it could take 3-4 turns maybe more depending on the monster. While one player is fighting, the other is simply watching. Yes, they get to choose whether to bite or charge but what does choosing even mean if you do not know what you are choosing. It's the same as flipping a coin, your choice is meaningless. Yes, you can also take a look at the card that has been discarded but are you seriously going to count the cards? 3. The fight with the other witcher is the worst, besides the fact that other players are left alone doing nothing again (betting is just for the beginning and is just one simple choice that is not engaging enough), the first witcher that initiates the attack will always have huge advantages. Why? Because he gets to reduce the enemy HP first and also has a chance to get rid of the powerful card first. Imagine if on the first turn the attacker does 5 damage as he does to the harpy, that's gonna be devastating for the other player. I really-really wanna like and buy this game, but as of now, it might be a bomb like the last Witcher board game. I'm really hoping that I'm wrong here, but as of now, I'm not sure it's gonna be a good game.
It feels more like a skirmisher, then a coop game, and very close to Horizon zero dawn, you compete against each other. The fight itself is close to etherfields/tainted grail. Me personally I am not a big fan of cards are your HP. They could have made Gwent itself, would have been better :(
1. Your point about dealing a large amount of damage straight away with PvP is sort of void as he has stated that there are dodging and blocking mechanics. 2. Your points about other players just waiting around is very dependant on the fights taking a long time which we don't know yet. It's like complaining about waiting for people to answer questions in trivial pursuit. Are you saying you would prefer no combat in the?
@@papapalpatine1563 1. So far we have not seen any dodging or block mechanic and even if they do have it, the one going first will always have an advantage. Why? Well if both party is equally strong and they deal the same amount of damage each turn, the one playing 2nd will lose. There need to be a catch up mechanic for the one playing 2nd or the round need to happen simultaneously. 2. From what we are shown you have around 15-20 deck of cards and you can buy more. Meaning the fight will get progressively longer as you are getting stronger and buying new cards. Even if it's only 5 minute per player for the entire battle, it's still 10 minute of not doing anything for the other players. I love PVP but it needs a better systems. You can't simply leave other people waiting without doing anything
@Go_On_Board Didn't you mention somewhere that there will be some defensive cards? Is this when the defending player can actually play some of them during the opponent's turn? This will make sense, since as it right now it looks like that the attaching player has a significant advantage over the defending one?

So, the more combat level you have the more cards you draw and the more powerful you are. I'm starting to think that we should separate the two concepts. Life can be the total amount of cards in the deck but loosing life for attacking seems weird.
Quite in line with the lore though, the are no easy battles in the books, losing life as you fight represents that, think of it as when you attack, the monster is not just standing in is place like in turnbased RPGs but fights back, but when the monster attacks, it is so powerful that the Witcher can barely fight back and just suffers damage
You have to look at your deck as your stamina and life pool so you can't be playing every card you draw to try and do as much dmg as possible maybe need to hold cards to eat some shots
@@smoati9ap309 I get all of that, but Geralt had no attacks that damaged himself AFAIK. This seems more like a stamina pool than a life pool as Ryan Doyle mentioned in the other comment.
@@ryandoyle4131 Hmm, so this is more of a fighting ability pool that joins stamina and health. Your fighting ability goes down as both stamina and life go down and it makes sense to loose the fight when either you can't attack anymore (stamina depleted) or you can't take any more damage (health depleted). Ok, that makes sense. I just wish they'd change the name then because the deck is clearly not a simple health pool.
@ stamina pool is a nice idea as well) i guess when those cards run out, the Witcher doesn't die but is merely set back. This doesn't look like elimination game)
Looks like Mage Knight to me... Not in a bad way - I would love to play this game but I already see now that my wife is not willing to watch my turns and congratulate me for my awesome actions. As in Mage Knight. I am a little bit disappointed... :(
It have desk or how we will move? I am in good mood with the game will have deck building and miniaturis for each monster and witcher. So i need may already
Combat looks interesting! Can't wait to see what high level cards you'll be able to obtain and what kind of monsters you'll be able to fight. Is Leshen gonna be the biggest and baddest? :D
@@amadeuszkaminski5347 Oh yeah, lore-wise there are a lot of stronger ones. I'm just curious if the game is gonna include some of them. It would be a bit weird if the box had Leshen as the main monster and then you'd be able to fight a dragon or a higher vampire for example though.
@@patrikgajdos468 You're right. Ones You've mentioned were almost unbeatable for witchers, maybe that's the reason that those ones are going to be missing in the box. As far as I can tell about this game, is that You'll be new Witcher on his path to be recognisable, not legend like Geralt
@@amadeuszkaminski5347 Well yes. I guess it depends on how the game will handle passing time. Maybe one game takes place in a span of few months/years, and there won't be enough time for the witcher to gain enough experience to take on extremely difficult monsters. We'll just have to wait and see. :)
Not saying the gwent art work is bad or anything (imo they are awesome), but i would really love to see more original art i.e. The Leshen on the cover and the monster cardback look great
What happens if the monster win? And second question. :) Is it possible that two witchers can fight a monster together if it is very strong (fiend or leshen)? That would be a great mechanic i know from Munchkin. xD Some monsters also can get a bonus if they have to fight more then one witcher.
If the monster wins, the player draws fewer cards at the end of the turn (to rest and lick the wounds). And the time lost is also painful here, but losing to a monster doesn't mean that you are out of the game. More Witchers against one enemy - that will not be possible in the basic, competitive game mode.
Tell us more about the board! If I can have a wish ;) Can board to be a hybrid of the Lord of the Rings, Runebound and Talisman, where you build the boards each time with smaller modules, several types of lands, undergrounds, mountains, cities, fields, forests, wilderness, swamps, moors, interiors of castles, abandoned villages. Overdo with the size of the board and make it as big as possible, make big atmosphere of travel and exploration ... and finally, do not forget to refer not only to the witcher and the Slavic bestiary, but to all our Slavic legends it is so powerful and I think not only I will love game more any other :) good luck!
I would have liked to see more text on the cards. So there can be more complex mechanics and interactions. Mechanics based only on symbols remind me too much of eurogames and I don't like them at all. But I guess all games are not for everyone. I'm off to cry in a corner.
We've deliberately shown the fight here very slowly, so the viewer will grasp the idea. Once players know the mechanism, each fight would be around 2-2,5 minutes. Obviously, it's longer than more simplistic mechanics - we wanted to translate the deep combat experience of the Witcher franchise into a board game. Even though it's longer than some adventure board games, each time another player fights you either handle the Monster Deck, take part in the fight as an opponent, observe it since you placed a bet, or simply plan for your next turn.
Brakuje tu szybkości i emocji.
