The Kickstarter campaign for The Witcher: Ronin comic has started today! You can learn more and pledge for your copy of the exclusive Hard Copy Collector’s Edition of the manga now: thewitcher.ly/RoninKS
Hey how about y'all make a witcher 1 remastered if you guys need to put Geralt in everything. Lots of people didn't played the first one, it would be a smart move imo.
I see them releasing this with every third page missing and the ending for another comic. It'll then take them another year to release the promised version.
Looks like a cool project/book, but what I'm confused about is: if you merely want to do an interest check (like it's suggested on the Kickstarter page) why not just open the book to pre-orders (you could still sell limited editions and special perks elsewhere)? Going to Kickstarter makes it look like you want the fans to finance the project, like others have pointed out in the comments, which given you already produced the content is not the case. So how is this different from a pre-sale/pre-order with limited edition extras, but just a bit more convoluted/confusing?
Kickstarter stopped being only for funding your projects when it got popular years ago, now it’s a hype/marketing platform. See also board games on KS.
If you read the campaign page, they explain it: The content of the manga has already been finished and paid for, so we are not looking for funding in the traditional sense. Indeed, the full comic printed in hard copy - with the additional making-of section and extra short stories - is what you get by default. So what will the campaign add to Ronin? Well, we wanted to see if this new concept for The Witcher would be something that fans would be interested in - and if so, to see just how special we can make this collector’s edition. The more support for the comic, the more amazing new artists we can enlist to create stunning variant artwork - all showing off unique takes on this Japanese-inspired Witcher story.
@@randomgamer7799 So they're not e-begging to finish a product... They're just e-begging to finish a product. Right! Totally different! Pack it up everyone, this multi-million AAA company is e-begging for justified reasons!
On the Kickstarter page it says that they're doing it as a sort of interest check and to see if making special editions with extra stuff is worth it. The content has already been made. Still puzzling though why that wouldn't just be possible through their own online shop for example.

@@azumag4432 Day one purchases and pre-orders paid for all those years of development, marketing campaign and they earned some millions on top of that.
I can't believe that's the case. One game couldn't simply do that, no matter what happened. Besides they already have plenty of other projekts in the works. See what I did there? ;)
I don't think he gives two shits about it anymore, otherwise there would be hellfire after what Netflix did to his books. This one is just salt on the wound.
He doesn't care about the brand as long as he gets paid. The more I learn about him the more I'm astonished how he could write such masterpiece even if he copied a lot of elements from Elric of Melniboné. Sapkowski was translating Elric in early 80's and wrote a copy of his own (imho much better but still a copy) in late 80's. He was also drunk on comic cons during late 90's during his panels - this I heard first hand from a guy who was organizing panels with him in Czech republic. He doesn't care about wokeness in Netflix show and how they butchered magic system as long as he gets paid.
@@bergonath8851, as I remember he didn’t care about the original show butchering the books. It seems that so long as money is flowing his way he doesn’t care.
They explain why they have a Kickstarter, it isn't about funding the comic itself technically. @@9100eric It is not about market research. They are funding and releasing it anyway. This is to see what they can do with a proper interest check. If it is successful then it will probably become a full series I'd assume
Guys, cdpr aren't asking you to pay for their book. Its not like they need funding, this kickstarter thing is mearly how people would purchase the product. They aren't asking for donatons they are selling it and giving it out through kickstarter for some reason. But dont get confused like I and many others did.
Well, you thought wrong. Geralt Ronin figure & Ciri Geisha figure sold out like hot cakes. If anything, Geralt/Witcher is easily fill into a Yokai hunter stuffs.
"Well, we wanted to see if this new concept for The Witcher would be something that fans would be interested in - and if so, to see just how special we can make this collector’s edition".....aka. every artist and writer has received their pay, the project is done...WE JUST WANT THE FANS TO GIVE US MOAAAR SO WE THOUGHT *LIMITED EDITION* BUT THERE'S NO BUDGET....
Cyberpunk is not selling well this year so they are milking Witcher franchise to dry... this isnt surprise when they already made a Witcher pokemon Go style of game.

because the management lost their confidence that even themselves are afraid to fund this thing... A Billion Dollar Company going to Kickstarter what a joke!
Y'all need to grow the hell up and realise that kickstarting here is basically the same as pre-ordering, since they've already finished it. The amount of kickstarters after just 2 hours clearly tells that others realise this too
Large corporations should not be doing kickstarters IMO, no matter what excuse they come up with. It also seems a bit fishy as I'd think the rights would be under the original author for something like this and trying to make it seem like an offshoot of the game comes off like a sneaky way around the authors rights.
i ordered a copy off of amazon, and it is in manga format that it reads right to left, but its not in tankobon size. its the size of a regular american comic, that reads right to left lol
Why not write a new character set in this Japanese folklore world? I get its basically fanfiction, but I don't know that I want 27 flavors of Geralt. I am also dubious of the Kickstarter. Why not just have pre orders? Hm.
Online book stores are doing pre-orders for the illustrated copy of The Last Wish and A Grain of Truth (also illustrated). You should check out the covers, they are really beautiful
Not sure if I'm missing something here... CDPR sticking their hand out rubs me the wrong way after the cyberpunk fiasco. Seems a bit out of touch/ unprofessional to me. If you believe in the product shouldn't you front the money yourselves?
@@TheNSJaws it's whatever optics, i don't care how they sell it, they wanted to see how many would be interested and since people vote with their money and not their good intention it's a pretty good measure, better than the usual market research
@@agitatedzone you don't care 'cause you're not a company. They however do, and the opinion of CDPR is in the gutters as of late, so y'know... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like the idea, I'm not even bothered by the Kickstarter. But €35 for the book, plus €19 - €39 for shipping depending on where outside of Poland, and then custom charges if you are outside of the US, EU, AUS or Japan. Even as a massive Witcher fan, I can't justify that.
I might've been on board with the base tier, but with shipping costing half as much as that tier alone, you're out of your mind. I'll just wait until this is widely available.
They are backing it, the Kickstarter is for this as they explain: The content of the manga has already been finished and paid for, so we are not looking for funding in the traditional sense. Not to mention the game has had a rocky post release development with a lot of staff being shuffled around. The now ex-lead game designer recently left CD Projekt Red. I also met the producer for the game at PAX in 2019, the guy looked exhausted even then *and* right after PAX Melbourne they went on a flight over to London to do another presentation. It was insane, I imagine the developers were suffering from fatigue and it ended up impacting the development of the game, I can't even imagine how much of an effect the pandemic has had on the development of the game. I recall telling them at the time I felt it would be a bad idea to release the game on previous generation consoles without doing a completely separate optimised build, just as Witcher 3 was outsourced to get a completely separate optimised build for the Switch. Know what I think happened, I think they were still working on the game right up to the last minute and didn't have a finished build ready to optimise for different platforms by multiple dedicated teams.
Bruh he said that it's almost paid for so join the Kickstarter so we can ship them. So the fans are actually paying the creation and to buy the damn thing lol.
ESTOU EM PORTUGAL, FALO PORTUGUÊS, PORQUE NÃO TENHO ACESSO A TRADUÇÃO DO THE WITCHER 3 EM PORTUGUÊS? VOU TER QUE ALTERAR O SISTEMA PADRÃO PRA UMA COISA TÃO SIMPLES???
Sometimes I fantasize that CDPR can bring the trilogy back together (which is a lot of work, of course). I believe there will be opportunities in the near future.
CDPR please make us to play Wild Hunt in 60fps with any dumping of graphic settings on Xbox Series S. I still play this masterpiece every day after work but my eyes goes close my hairs after 2 hours playing. Please, please, please...
As much as i love The Witcher series, this is RIDICULOUS, why would a millionaire company need to do a kickstarter? Even though Cyberpunk 2077 had a disastrous launch, and many people refunded it, it still earned them MILLIONS (when it came back to the PS Store, it was the top seller of that month). Are all good game companies cursed with greed when they make it big, like EA and Ubisoft?
So cd projekt red creators of two super high selling main games in a row, is asking us to help them with funds to finish a product that is already kinda finished and then I have to pay again if I want the real final product? And I thought that Apple was crazy.
For people that are asking why would CDPR need kickstarter for this project. They don't. The comic is already funded and finished, read the kickstarter page and you'll find out.
@@Navhkrin So you think they are lying about the fact they already paid for and completed the comic? You do realize that there's actually no difference at all if you pay normally or through kickstarter right? You would still have to pay for it at the end of the day. Or did you expect this to be free?
The Kickstarter explanation is basically "we want to see how many will dish out extra shipping cost instead of publishing it ourselves". CDPR is really trying to burn bridges just to milk more from loyal customers. What a sad outcome.
@@no_username69 They can afford publishing it into stores directly, but they are going into KS just to have a market research paid by fans avoiding the shipping costs. It is the greediest route they can take while saving as much as possible totally disreganding the consumers, because you can bet they will then publish the books if it is successful enough.
