26, struggling...confused...all my friends from high school/college are secure with gfs/wives, steady job. Just lost my ex who left me for someone else after moving back home so the "I was kinda hoping you'd stay" thing kicks me in the nuts. So relatable. So true. Most people just assume, oh, you get to your mid-late 20's you'll automatically have your life together, and be married to someone amazing, and have a kid. And while it seems like everyone you meet (over 25) is married and with kids, there are still a few of us who aren't.. and for us (the non married, single, lonely people who are over 25), songs like this one make everything feel just a little less shitty. THANK YOU.

I am a hardcore metal head, however this is one of the only pop-punk bands that I love. Every song has a way to just pull your heart strings. It also doesn't help that I am from Philadelphia and they sing a lot about the city being from the area or the surrounding suburbs.
@TBH717
@TBH717 11 лет назад
I think that's what makes The Wonder Years so fantastic, their lyrics aren't obscured or abstract, they are straightforward testaments to the joys and pains of growing up and maturing as a person. They lack a filter in their spilling of raw emotion and thought, and I think that's what makes a good pop punk or hardcore band good.

When my grandparents go, I'll really be alone, any friends I had moved away, graduating college, getting married, and I'm just sitting here waiting for my grandparents to die so I'm forced to get a dead end job to pay for cigarettes and whiskey, counting the days until the insurance money runs out, and I become more and my like my parents working fast food or oil changes to pay for habits that kill them with their minds stuck in the past.

The thing about TWY to me is that anyone who grew up in a Westernized nation can probably relate to their lyrics in some sense. Because we all have our battles, and no matter how miniscule they might seem to someone less fortunate, they're big to you. The richest among us are just as often depressed, and even in the ghetto you've got a roof over your head and a fridge full of food. These songs aren't about having to struggle to stay alive. They're about struggling to feel alive.

Soupy's voice has matured so much. God I remember when get stoked on it came out and now listening to his voice, it's just crazy how much its changed. They still sound like the wonder years, but their sound is so much more refined and amazing. These guys are my all time favorite band..I could never relate to anything more than the stuff they put out. If my life had a soundtrack it would be all of their albums back to back.

This and the bastards, the vultures and the wolves are the two things that are the most therapeutic things in my life right now.

Listening to this song on repeat on my 26th birthday compared to when I was 16 when I first heard it, it hits different now.

yes, that's because everyone has something to complain about. Life sucks sometimes. And it really is okay to let the frustrations that come with that out. Everyone has problems and they are allowed to talk about them.
