Having my saw on my workbench was fine for its construction, but not very practical in the long term. That's why I'm making a mobile stand for it.

Watching this video is getting me anxious to get back in my shop. I haven't made anything in there since spring!

So hope that winter will come soon. But with this unusual fall, I guess you'll be still out ouf your shop for a bit :(

Awesome Alain! I just love how you constantly reuse reclaimed lumber from wherever you can find it. I do this myself and not only to I get a good feeling about saving a tree here or there I also enjoy the fact that the project was much more affordable.

Just a quick question for you Alaina. Is that the same impact drill that you built your workshop with? Is so...wow!

That thing looks like it might hold 20 bandsaws! Sturdy is the word that springs to mind.

Excellent video Alain. I have enjoyed watching your entire band saw series, as I am in the process of building Matthias's 20" band saw myself. I have one observation, however. When you cut a panel on the miter saw, may I suggest that you start the cut at the back, and then pull the blade toward you at about half depth, then plunge the blade to full depth to finish the cut, pushing it back to the fence again? As the blade turns over the top toward you, that means that the blade is exiting the work piece at the top when you go front-to-back. Because the top is unsupported, that results in tear-out. If you start at the back, there will be no tear-out, as the blade will be exiting at a point that the work piece is already cut. By only cutting half depth on the pull stroke, you will avoid introducing unwanted tear-out in the bottom of the piece, whether or not you have a zero-clearance insert in your miter saw. I learned this from Jay Bates.

Thank you, I'll try that next time Next time . And I hope you'll have as much fun building your bandsaw as I did building mine. Just go slowly and everything will be fine. I didn't had any major trouble when I build mine and it was the first time I've build a bandsaw.

Thanks Alain. I'm in the middle of frame glue-up and it's a bit like herding cats, trying to manage so many pieces that are all swimming around in a bed of glue. I went with dimensional lumber as I don't have a jointer yet, but I think using maple as you did really sets yours apart (and makes it heavier!). I may have to start using the salt trick to keep my glued-up pieces from floating so much. Keep making excellent videos!

I've never used the salt trick, but I heard it may help. Yes hard maple made the saw super heavy

Looks Great Alain, Again a few things I have learnt from your video. 1, I use a lot of reclaimed timber so maybe should invest in a drum sander to do the rough clean up. 2, I like your method of edge banding, although I have seen it before, I think I will also invest in this horizontal V cutter in the very near future

I have a drum sander, I use it sometime. I made a small modification it'S more an addon, if you stick around I will post it in a couple of months.

To be honest this is the kind of tool that I was hesitant to buy. Found both models used and jump on them. Now it's rare that I don't use at leat one model in every project, it's reliable, fast and acurate. I figure that they paid for themself just with the doors and windows that I made.

Are the fancy drawer slides the right way to go for a drawer you'll be removing and dumping out? Or are you just going to vacuum it out?
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 6 лет назад
I use a ice cream bucket to empty the drawer, then if I need to remove more dust I use the shop vacuum. But if the dust is not wet I'm not using the vacuum.

I'm curious as to why you did not hook your bandsaw up to your shop dust collection system?
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 7 лет назад
I had the possibility on my metal one and barely use it. I just let the dust pile up in the lower wheel compartment and empy it from time to time. Now at least int has somewhere to fall not jut stay around the wheel. But I notice around the years that I don't cut that much dry wood with a bandsaw, a curve here and there, a tall rip cut of a couple of feet sometime. But when I cut planks with it from logs, I had a LOT of sawdust and even then I was glad I was not hooked up to anything, the dust was so wet that It stuck to everything and I'm sure it would stuck to my pipes and molds would now gros inside my dust filtering pipe system. So up until now I'm not in an hurry to add the dust port I bought on the saw.

That's a lot of maple .. fiber of gold around here. BUT .. the build was grand. Looks a little weak in the dust collection department possibly.

I dont like it, you used some high quality maple. You should at least stole it from somebodys garbage. Matthias Wandel style!!!!
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 7 лет назад
I whish I could do that.... I live in a very small town (aprox 1500) and we're only allow to put, what they call "big garbage" 3 times a year. I only work evenings so when the garbage is out I'm working and most of the time people are getting rid of Ikea style furniture, which is not even solid wood....
