Honestly, nobody cared that she was mean. People knew that for years. Oprah knew that. That's why could never catch the 2 in the same room. Now when covid hit. Her ratings dropped. Because we all watch movies and binged actual TV shows. And when people came back, they questioned why, and drama brings views. Then, the drama got too heavy on one side, and the fake apologies weren't stopping the loss in viewership.

He did that more than once. Once during a writers' strikes many years ago, and then during the pandemic. He wasn't even vocal about it. Meanwhile, Ellen didn't pay anyone during the pandemic, plus she hired a different production team for her at-home talk show.

In my head, I picture your stories like the show Drunk History, so every time one of the people in the story mentions "having a problem" it feels like they're breaking the 4th wall and looking directly into the camera. I love it!
Those situations are different, Covid is an outside force, while writers strike is slightly more of a choice. Ellen also got in trouble for pressuring guests and bad work environment. That being said I don’t watch either of them now despite the fact I used to.
Fallon's affable, but far as I know, he made no pretense at being daytime talk levels of fluffy and nice. Ellen put on this production of being much nicer, and more caring than she was, which was most of what she got in shit for.

my grandma always watched this show, so i would catch it from time to time. i remember one time after it had been on for several years, and i hadn't seen it in awhile. she was doing her dancing thing at the beginning, and it was so obvious she hated it. it lasted barely any time at all, and she looked like she was being tortured.
