We take my 2019 Ford Ranger to the next level! A few months ago we swapped from the factory turbo to a stage 4 from CR Performance, while dialing in the tune Adam from ZFG Racing suspected we had some restriction. In this video we test SPD Performance catted down pipe and cat back exhaust, Mishimoto intercooler pipes and intake.

Is it a stock block? How much boost are you running? I'm currently Running 26psi on stock turbo on my 2.0 in my 2016 focus ST on 92. Like 260/360 wheel

Full E85 on stock fuel pump? How long did you run this for or did you detune eventually after the fun settled down?

I put it on 91 octane when it got really cold last winter but it was a very short amount of time. it’s been on e85 for the majority of the 41k miles on the truck

Very curios how you are getting e85 to run on a 2.3 when it’s very well known that the stock hpfp on the 2.3 is limited to max of e50 and if you really lean on it e30.

Not true in the rangers case. The HPFP flows quite a bit more than other 2.3s.

If you guys want to make real power get a duratec head, port injection system/injectors too, and you'll make a lot more power because the head is much better for the dtec line than the ecoline for boost, can also port to 35mm ports on int and exhaust, my 2.7l stroker with a 57mm .5 ar turbo is sitting around 530whp at 7400 and 492 tq at 3300 Look into an older dtec head and get some studs itll get you much further My friends EB mustang I'm comparing to has a hard time with the same program I run on my dtec swap for my 2002

@@albikasemi2322 cactus was nice, didn't see too many in my area, which I definitely liked for the unique factor. It is a non metallic paint though, so swirls and scratches can be visible depending on lighting.

@@00ZincGT, on your level of a build the upgraded Mishimoto intercooler could be "just what the doctor ordered"! You already have their intercooler piping kit too. You'd really free up the last restriction in your path to more power. That's really the big Achilles Heel in all the EcoBoost motors = heatsoak, especially when the boost/power is increased significantly! Alot of different performance intercoolers are made for the Ford 1-150 EcoBoost trucks. That I know of only 3 different ones are offered for the 2019 & up US spec Ford Ranger trucks. Mountune Performance (makes alot of Ford Focus/Fiesta ST + RS performance parts), Levels Performance & of course Mishimoto!

@@couch1596 That's my point. Well tuned and designed turbo engines are reliable and FAR superior. I have to admit that I am biased due to living at high altitude. For example, my 2.3L ecoboost ranger is WAY faster then my 4L V6 Tacoma. It's not even close! Maybe at sea level that wouldn't be the case. At my altitude, I've never had a car that I would consider "fast" that was NA. Including a few different V8's. My old 2006 Titan with the 5.7L V8 felt like it had less power then the 2..L. Turbos are simply amazing!

@@andybj4091 - it really is true. I’m in my late 50s and love the Turbo power plants. I remember the day when Chevrolet would pull a regular 4 or 8 cylinder, never designed to be boosted, off the shelf, add a turbo with NO intercooler and wonder why it wouldn’t last 30k. That is still a bit of the reason there is hesitancy. People will buy a 4 cylinder turbo diesel and never question how long it will last. The 2.7 EcoBoost is made of the same material as the 3.0 PowerStroke in the F150s in North America. They now design and build the turbo gas motors with similar thoughts as they do with the Diesels. One benefit is much less compression to manage. Times are changing and us old guys, or guys that refuse to forget the past, need to move on. My last 2 F150s I have had personally are both boosted. A 2019 Raptor SuperCab and now a 2021 F150 XLT Mid, FX4 SuperCrew PowerBoost Hybrid! 430 hp and 570 lb ft of torque. More than enough for me!

I'm pretty sure MAPerformance has alot of parts already available for that motor just some piping needs to be modified since all the products are primarily for the Ecoboost mustang.

You said in the video you would add 91 as you ran out of injector. But never said if that had to be done. Was the last pull still on E85? Or was it blended when you had to "rework the tune" after you put on the intake? Livernois tuning insists these trucks can only take E30 and anything else is dangerously lean, especially at below 50° f can you give me some guidance on what you find to be the limits on the fuel system on E85.

My 2.7 just has a 5 star tune and injen cold air intakes jlt oil blow by and turbosmart blowboff valve with eddle Brock exhaust have had no issues in the 3 years I had the truck

What kind of injectors and fuel pump do I need to run a setup like this at 93 Octane? Just bought the exact stage 4 upgraded turbocharger a Mishimoto intercooler, Roush cold air intake, Borla S-Type cat-back exhaust system and CVF catted downpipe. Hi, great build!. im interesred on tuning a ranger like this. How does it behave in normal/part-throttle driving with the stage 4 turbo?. Does it have noticeable lag or it works fine also during normal take off and so on?. Unlike the stage 3 that just goes at and beyond the stock turbo the stage 4 graphs look as it goes below the stock turb under 3k rpm. Tha ks for your feedback

I would have loved to see the base time on a drag strip vs finished time. My ranger runs 8.90 in the 1/8th stock with tune, 4wd lauch. Im forced to run 9.0 at the track for trophies. 8.0 is a quarter of my truck payment every Sunday! 😡

I believe I found him on Ranger5g. He showed picks of the high pressure fuel pump and I believe he detuned it a bit to run on pump gas once the fun settled.

In 19 I bought a new Tacoma TuRD OFF-ROAD. This thing is proving to be a bad choice. I'm now needing my second rear differential. The transmission is retarded and rattling throughout the interior. (Never been off-road)I wish I had bought the Ford but the dealership screwed that deal. I will unload the Toy soon. As we all know, Tacomas are way overpriced in the used market

Toyota's really are not as reliable as people think and they force you to get all major repairs done at a Toyota dealership. Not only that but they are very limited when it comes to aftermarket.

@BG OBGAI I bought a 1993 Z71 K1500 for $19k in 94. I still have it to this day. 421,000 miles all original except 5 batteries a starter a water pump and two sets of front brakes. All original drivetrain. Goes 3k miles per quart of oil. And I pull my 21ft alum weld fishing boat to the ocean 3 hrs. away every few weekends except in the winter. No bullshit.

Sounds great until you find out Ford cut a slot in between the cylinders of the block for cooling which can create leaks in the head gasket.

The real question, how long will that little 2.3 last running that kinda power? Also what power would I make with just premium fuel, 91?

I assume not too long, the 2.3 runs a open head block design... as most people who seriously mod the RS would tell you, most swap out for the 2.0 focus St/ecoboost closed deck designs as their built stronger. Or one could go through and install sleeves like the STI’s do. Whatever floats your boat

@@nickkelly4208 correct me if im wrong but ford typically just uses the same engine through its line up. The same 2.0 ecoboost in the ST focus was the same one across all fords 2.0 2013-2016 line up (after 2015 they updated the 2.0 ecoboost to a open head design vs a closed head etc) but even now the 2.0 17+ shares a lot of components with the prev gen 2.0 ecoboosts. Currently im modding a 2.0 17 fusion and a lot of the components i buy are ST compatible or ST swapped lmfao. I just tell people i ST swapped it 😭 very small differences among the line up but engine wise typically ford uses the same lay out

I was in the same boat ended up with a crew cab F150 leg room for days. Especially handy when you have to use a rear facing car seat for the first few years.

This is actually impressive for such a heavy truck turning such massive sprung weight. On our shop 2016 mustang ecoboost we have tune + 3inch downpipe, removed suitcase, factory cat back, FMIC, turbosmart electronic BOV, turbosmart upgraded wastegate and our intake system(just a coldair pipe) and on 93 tune(by unleashed) we made a square 455/455 on blankenship's dyno at 2000ft elevation. I should edit and add - 24 max psi boost carries rpms to 5600 nicely thanks to upgraded wastegate(12psi unit from turbosmart).

now what about the speed limiter it stops at 110 because why change hp and torque if your not changing top speed and what about the 3-4 sec. throttle delay? i have been looking for a why to at least set it to whats on the speed odometer but no one messes with the limiter any more

I love my 19 ranger, how on earth do you run straight up E85 without the flex fuel system and on the stock fuel system, mine can only run E30 safely and makes 432whp and 489lb Ft of torque, mines full bolt on stock intercooler and turbo. Is it just tuning that allows you to run a full tank of E85? I can only put 4 gallons of it and fill the rest up with 93

I live in Denver, having the big turbo basically makes up for the lack of oxygen so it’s comparable to a stock turbo at sea level. As far as running full e85, there are things the tuner can do to help keep rail pressure and everything happy.

The problem with the 2.3 ranger is the boost pressures. Factory stock they make 18 pounds of boost. This is actually a bad thing as the engine is mostly aluminum. What has been happening is either the head actually gets blown partly off and it lets coolant leak into the cylinder. Second thing is the main bearings can let go which results in oil pan with multiple holes blown through it and no run. In the case of the top end it’s often repairable but if the bottom end lets go your going to need a new engine. It’s fine while under warranty cause they’ll eat the cost of replacing it, after that your on your own and a new engine can be big money. I hear stories of engines letting go as early as 40,000 or as late as 60,000.

I heard about those problems with the Mustangs and Focus but I have yet to see any thread with someone that blew their head gasket on the Ranger. I am sure it can happen but to say that its a problem with no findings is a bit misleading.

I take it- you drive a taco...the problems you describe are virtually nonexistent. Head gasket was from 6-7 years ago, fixed, and I have never heard of bearings letting loose...enjoy your taco.

3 years in on my 2020= 0 problems, I have replaced the tires due to getting a screw in the sidewall, but nothing else - it is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned... sorry about your problems.

I Just picked up my 2021 Ranger. For full E85 did you only have to upgrade the HPFP and tuning? I’m at E65 on the stock fuel systems with tuning right now but working towards full E85. Besides the turbo upgrade you have I have the exact same bolt on’s on order.

@@00ZincGT I would have to do the same thing (switch between fuels) is the truck setup to gradually add more timing and boost the more it recognizes higher ethanol content? And with all these upgrades what do you top out power and torque wise on 91? I have 93 available but I’m sure it’d be close to 91. Plus on long drives I wouldn’t want to be permanently restricted to e85.

When Ford brought the 2.3 ecoboost to the mustangs a lot of people said that it was VERY similar to the 2.3 turbo in Mazdaspeed 3’s and 6’s. Ford and Mazda work together and have for a long time. My question. Is this 2.3 ecoboost here similar to the Mazda 2.3 turbo?
