I visited this attraction a few days ago and I could hardly even produce a reaction to that portal. I was in so much awe, it was like seeing something your brain cannot begin to comprehend. Thank you Walt Disney Imagineering!
Wow Wow Wow!!!!! I can't wait, it's like my childhood has come to life! I feel Disney has created the new Fantasyland for all the late 20-early 30 year olds out there (who may or may not have kids!)
"New Fantasyland was a failure because it didn't bring in more people like Cars Land did." That makes sense until you remember that California Adventure had pitiful crowds before its expansion while Magic Kingdom is the most attended theme park in the world. The goal with New Fantasyland was increased capacity, not necessarily attendance. It's one of the primary reasons why New Fantasyland chose to experiment with restaurants and meet & greets instead of roller coasters.
The moment I noticed that the mirror was stretching my mind was completely blown. I am so looking forward to how awesome they are making this expansion
anyone else notice the picture of belle and her mother ( well I suppose that's what it is lol) so adorable I love the details like that!! OMG I can't wait!!
I get it... Here's how it works: 1. The mirror is a classic trick with glass. When one side is dark, the other sees a reflection. 2. Your side dims a little, hiding the reflection. 3. There is a projection, like in the movies, on the glass (or behind the glass). 4. Watch the vid again. The reflection in the top-right corner only shifts when the right half of the door shifts into place. The crack of the door slides in with the crack of the glass.
The markings on the wall inside the cottage (1:34) that say "- 6 ans, - 7 ans" are the age marks. "Ans" is french for years. Obviously since the notches start 18 years prior, the lower markings would naturally age and fade over time.
The wall opening is almost the same as the total width of the "frame". The frame sides and the lower portion of the wall are composed of semi-rigid material extending to below the floor. The wide projection screen/mirror extends to the floor. When the frame widens, and moves downward, the wall and frames sides scroll downward with it. The projection mirror scrolls in sync with the video concealing the seam in the projection mirror sliding in before splitting. The right mirror moves to the right.
Thanks Disney parks for uploading these videos, now I don't have to waste money to go see it, but can go spend it on something worth it like a trip to Disneyland where they're fantasyland is full of rides rather then props and scenery. And also where they don't enforce fastpass times or plan on having you schedule your day around them.
It's a meet 'n greet/storyime with Belle experience. Some people think it's an awesome setting with just a silly meet 'n greet, while others (like me) think it's a really cool, souped up version of a meet 'n greet. Besides, Disney always marketed this as exactly that...a storytime thing.
Can you tell us the secret of how that mirror starts stretching? Not just the mirror which is actually a door. I want a real answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And how it becomes a screen.
I think its a combination of fiber optics, digital screen technology, laser projection, and a variation of that trick they use for the stretching portraits room in the Haunted Mansion.
Interesting how they made a portal that goes from the cottage to the castle. It's almost a reference to the magic ring that did the same thing in the original fairytale.
No, I wish I did. My sentence could have been "... I love to talk to Disney fans" like me. I believe Disney must be a very inspiring company to work for.
Good point. And it is a nice touch to add the air of a home that's been lived in. But I wonder what sort of books line the shelves in Belle's cottage. BTW, not to pry too much, but you said you love to talk to Disney fans. Do you work for Disney?
Omg. DISNEY WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO SMART??? The portal..The wall! That is the best door portal wall thing I have ever seen! I never thought it would be that amazing! Defiantly makes it feel magical..I could feel the magic from in my room! How would you stop guests from running into the screen before it moves away and makes a door? (because you know there will be that one guy that will run right into it and break it).
The house looks lovely, but there are a few touches to it that don't quite feel authentic to the movie. Would Belle and Maurice have measured her every year and marked it on the wall? That seems more like a modern thing than a pre-colonization French/Germanic thing. But the magic mirror on the wall is beyond incredibly impressive! Disney Magic at its finest!
I know "ans" are "years" in French. Boy, you really pay attention to detail! Now I understood what you wrote. But, pay attention, the end of "mois" (months) are fading in the 2 first notches. The upper notches are much darker.
It's not supposed to make sense, that is the magic of Disney. Imagineers are like magicians, you may have figured out their trick, but when you ask them, they'll be like nope guess again.
This is very well made and charming. But the Fantasyland expansion overall may not generate the excitement of Cars Land in California. Disneyland is doing a mini expansion of Fantasyland near the castle and I think they made the right choice of it's theme. The village is modeled after Tangled, a more recent movie with a character who is wildly popular and will remain so, Rapunzel.
In "Belle"/"Little Town," Belle is portrayed as a sort of newcomer. She doesn't quite fit in, she talks about how every day is the same "ever since we came to this poor provincial town," and Maurice promises that if his woodcutting invention works out, they'll be able to move. So although Maurice may display some of his inventions there, Belle didn't grow up there. It's amazing what the imagineers have done, but it doesn't respect the characters.
Excellent Video! Maurice workshop should be in front of the house, going under a cellar. As it is exactly in the movie. Where is the "Wood cutting machine" that he invented in the movie? I really like to see that invention! The Best of all, I would like to see Maurice himself!! Why they don't have a Maurice character yet?
The location doesn't look accurate, like someone said, it is at the edge of a village near farm field. Maurice and Belle also had chickens and goats! I think there ought to be a petting zoo with chickens, sheep and goats!
If Belle and Maurice only moved to the village in recent years why is there a growth chart going back to 12months old? As it says in the song: "Every morning just the same, since the morning that we came to this poor provincial town..." she's lamenting not living in the city any more in the first song of the movie.
