DMC3 mobile actually have a different version that was only available for korean market.. which is all the characters are chibi

To expand on Refrain, the bloody palace has 50 floors with Berial, Bael, Echidna, Credo Angelo, and then Nero or Dante depending on who you’re playing as. There weren’t many enemy types, so on the higher floors the game would shove 30 Bianco Angelo’s down your throat. When you beat bloody palace, you get to play as Devil Trigger Nero/Dante, but you can’t transform mid level, so you have to select if you’re going human form or Devil Trigger in the menu. The most interesting thing about Refrain apart from the Nero bossfight is that Nero has a dashing shot where he dashes and fires his gun 3 times (it is unusable if you have auto charge shot) and a white scarecrow variant that keeps his distance to throw blades at you. Despite its Several problems, it’s actually fun to play, and certainly better than Peak of Disappointment.

I remember playing 3's 2D version on a Nokia 6700 by downloading through some third-party sites that somehow also included promotional box arts of 4 into its loading screen. While the game has 36 missions, you can only play a certain number of them per each playthrough as the missions are laid out in a branching tree pattern, forcing you to pick one specific route through a few consecutive branches each time. The gameplay in itself is dull, but at least reading through the mission descriptions (e.g. "upon entering this room the fountain in the middle overflows with blood, and the door slams shut as demons close in") can prove to be quite interesting

Will be honest. I think a Wii DMC game could have worked. Motion control wise, you don't have to factor in direction, you could just use basic waggling for weak and strong attacks. Swing the wii remote for fast attacks, press the Z button on the nunchuck to fire the gun, and shake the wii remote and nunchuck together to do a strong attack. There's also the fact that you can include classic controller and GC controller support, which should have enough buttons to control the game normally.

There was also a DMC4 java game, but I think that one was unofficial. Also, Nero having a human arm is totally canon. He was adopted by Kyrie´s family as a child. I think they would have noticed the huge gloving demon arm. Based on the manual, he received the Devil Bringer shortly before DMC4´story.

I think a 2D side scroller metroidvania style Devil May Cry game would be great. If Capcom is going to make one they can either make a new game or demake the first Devil May Cry game.

I believe that DMC1 was going to either get a remake or a port to the PSP but, just like dance of Sparda, it got cancelled. Also, you might as well include Pinnacle of Combat seeing how different it is from the final product.

Instead i discovered it from memes and gameplay videos in my yt recommendations. So got dmc 3 se on my switch cause i wanted to get 5 se but i don't have a PS5...

Nice video! I've been planning to make a similar video for a while. There's actually even more forgotten Devil May Cry games than what was shown here! Information can be incredibly hard to come by though. Devil May Cry 4 Refrain did have an Android version but only in Japan and nobody's been able to get it working again. The iOS version was only delisted somewhat recently I think, around the release of the new mobile game. If you've already previously purchased it on your account though, you can still redownload it. I have it on an old iphone. I haven't tried it myself, but you should be able to still get it by jailbreaking an iPhone and downloading a backup copy of the game off the internet.

Dance of sparda being canceled is a good thing in my eyes. If we were gonna get a spada game, it needs to be a full-on console game with the same budget and time put into it at DMC 5.

Not making DMC DMC fly at the beginning is treachery. I’m saying this as someone who enjoyed and S’ed DMC2, but accepted that 99% of the community won’t touch it.

Cool things i'd like to add. DMC4 refrain had an android port exclusive to japan (apparently it had english options), but it's currently lost, DMC3D had an extended version called Dante X Vergil, and there was one other DMC3 mobile game exclusive to Korea, made by Zio Interactive, currently known as Neowiz (yes, the ones that made Lies of P). This game is also lost, but some footage can be found online

I never knew anything about these DMC games. I knew about the Pachinko one, but I never knew about the mobile games. Man it does suck that Capcom canceled a PSP DMC game, where we can play as Sparda would make an interesting prequel story. I mean we don't know anything about Sparda, except the fact h fought against his own kind and married a human. As for a Wii DMC game, I think it'll be cool to see how they could manage to pull it off with the Wii remote and nun-chuck.

I played DMC 4 Refrain on my Iphone 5C and it was great. Is it still available in the app store? I can't seem to find it anymore.

There's actually an android version of DMC4 Refrain, it was just exclusive to japan *and* the original xperia with no touch screen support at all. For some reason, the game was apparently still in english. Some things to keep in mind if you do end up playing this. Firstly, you have several categories of moves like in the main games, however, you're limited to 3 moves per category. You can eventually unlock the ability to equip everything at once. Secondly, while Nero is surprisingly close to feature complete, dante got gutted hard for this version. There's no weapon switching at all, instead just having different inputs being dedicated to specific attacks from the various weapons like MvC Dante. Dante also completely lacks trickster. Thirdly, devil trigger is not a mechanic, there is super mode, but you cannot toggle dt while in game. Lastly, and this is the most important, you unlock a reward for completing the game at every rank. However, you do not earn the rewards for ranks lower than what you got. Deliberately going for C ranks in every mission is an experience that still haunts me to this day.

I did beat the Java 3D game several times on a Sony Ericsson K550I, my thumbs have never been the same. It was very basic and repetetive, style not really being a part of the equation at all, simply stunlock your way trough boxy rooms, before squaring up against a cerberus. It had branching level design, and you had to replay it several times to get all the guns. Cool for the time and hardware, not much else.

I played DMC3D but I recall almost nothing about it. The only thing I can add is that you can eventually unlock outfits that buff and nerf weapon types. A blue coat that buffs melee attacks and nerfs guns, a black coat that buffs guns and nerfs melee attacks, and a third outfit I legitimately can't recall anything about but I assume it buffs you style attacks. Oh, also, the story is a massive nothing burger where Dante senses a disturbance in the force then stumbles through a branching path where things just kind of happen until you fight the final boss, either cerberus or vergil, and that's it. Also the game is bad, I wouldn't recommend trying to play it unless you want to document things about it.

Interesting that there was a Nero boss fight in one of the mobile games. Make u wonder why they didn't fully develop that for Vergil's Mission 20 in DMC5:SE. Would've been epicif we got to fight both Dante and Nero in Vergil's campaign.

I actually still have DMC4 Refrain on my iPhone to this day. I played it extensively when i was a kid because i didn't have a ps3 or 360 at the time so refrain was actually very first DMC4 experience before the actual game lol. definitely nostalgic as hell and you just made me want to replay it again, though it takes forever to unlock Dante and the other skills and game modes

DMC 4 Nero could work with a PSP layout. I wouldn't have minded a port of DMC4 on PSP with only Nero.

I believe there's an install file for DMC Refrain on the Internet Archive. You need an older device tho since it can't be played on the newer Iphone/Ipad (you can install it but it won't play).

The dmc3 mobile games aren't dmc3 games. Well, the 2d one is, somewhat, but the 3d one is a totally different game. In fact, you can actually still play them! There is a website with every single piece of devil may cry content on there, (forgot the name) including two emulators you can use to play them. In the 3d game you can make different decisions after each round leading you to a different mission, which makes the game have several endings. These endings are nothing to write home about, but it's cool that there is quite a bit of content put into it. You can even pull off some combos if you REALLY want to. The 2d game is, at least on the emulator, really weird, buggy and uninteresting though. To me at least.

The Pachinko spinoffs are awesome, but I ain't spending dosh on them, either US or JP money. It makes me pissed we didn't get a Sparda oriented prequel(originally for the PSP, which would be cool if it released in 2010, the same year as prequel installments to other popular IPs on the same handheld such as Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, and God of War: Ghosts of Sparta; on the other hand, Duodecim 012 Dissidia Final Fantasy, taking place before the first Dissidia entry, released a year later in 2011), but I do hope Capcom and the DMC team pull a Metroid Dread and release it onto store-shelves after 20 years. We'd have a story detailing Sparda's turn from being a soldier of Mundus, his first encounter with Eva, and battle against the Demon King's adversaries Beowulf, Berial(Mundus' actual son, though the reboot did have his unborn offspring with Lilith, but it's in an AU separate from what I call the "Main Canon"), and some other demons as well. We'd also get the first in-game appearance of Modeus and Baal(renamed as Buer to avoid confusion with Devil May Cry and Bayonetta's iteration of Bael/Baal). Fingers crossed our wishes would be fulfilled for this prequel game. Also, I admit DMC4 Refrain and the DMC3 Mobile duology literally had Dante use guns as a main option, rather than locking them behind an alternate costume as one commenter pointed out.

I actually played dmc 4: retrain before it got delisted. I would much rather play that over POC (especially considering the devs and discord owners for POC are more scammers than the game itself)

I played DMC4 Refrain on an iPad 3 I got with damaged screen for like 10$ at a junk shop, and it wasnt half bad You cant get it on the store, but you can get an .ipl file online(yeah, piracy, but you know, they removed it and I want it, what are my choices)

Im seeing a lot of people calling DmC Dante "emo" or calling the reboot "Emo may Cry" And I feel like the word has lost its original meaning due to repeated use in the wrong situations (like this one) Describing someone as emo means the person is overly sensitive, emotional, and full of angst (anxiety) If you watch the cutscenes in the game and listen to the dialogue (of which i doubt many did because its kinda bad), DmC Dante is none of that, he's more of an edgy punk than anything else. If you wanna shit on this game, fine, it's your opinion and I can respect it, but calling DmC Dante emo is just wrong lol

I actually did play the 3D Java mobile game on my Sony Ericson K750i back in 2012... Heh, I was only 10 back then, and it was my first phone ever. It was pretty fun. Nowhere near as good as DMC 4 but it was good, and wayyyy better than PoC (Peak of Combat sucks, I tried it)

There's a lot of things I hate about Peak of Combat, it's greedy, The Gacha is Horrible, The daily Resources should be considered a crime, and the Story is absolute Garbage and yet the worst thing about it is that it's actually Fun. Seriously, When you get the characters you like (For me it's the 2 Yamato Vergils) It ALMOST Feels like I'm playing Devil may cry. I went to the game thinking I would just play it for 1 or 2 days and then leave a one star Review, but I ended up still playing it even now. The main selling aspect is the Challenges That cost no Energy (Bloody Palace, Boss Hunt, Realm Conqueror and Co-op) Which is the only thing i play at this point beside character events for some Gem. I don't even want to touch the main story with a ten inch pole, except to unlock Awakening and some pathetic amount of gems. And I consider myself lucky with the game's Gacha, cause I got an S+ Endless judgement, S Count Thunder with his Signature weapon, all without spending a Single cent. It's honestly like one of those Love-Hate Relationship..... Do I Recommend People to play this game? I'd say if you get the Character you want in the first 4 x10 free pull then Perhaps, if you don't? Unless you love Grinding and Waiting, I suggest you Don't even give them the Money. Hell I probably won't be playing right now If I hadn't unlocked Endless Judgement. Sorry I know this Video isn't about Peak of Combat, but I just have to say this Rant somewhere..... Also the Old Combat was Better...... Good Vid Btw
