*This movie is practically a PSA for if anyone has friends who might be suicidal on what to look out for* It can be a fairly common thing, when someone decides to take their life, to experience giddiness and want to re-live the glory days with their friends or family one last time. They know they wont living much longer- so they go all out. Realising that Gary was wearing the bandages on his wrists because he'd already attempted, and that was why he didn't want to show his arms and could quote the lines he'd been fed in therapy was such a sucker punch to the heart. When you rewatch the film you realise the room he is in is not his own, it's a hospital/facility where he must have been admitted after that attempt. Only Edgar Wright would make a crazy, hilarious movie about aliens taking over the world have so many layers and serious undertones that only make the film better with each rewatch. Truly my favourite director.

"when someone decides to take their life, to experience giddiness and want to re-live the glory days with their friends or family one last time." One of my best friends took his own life last year, we hadn't talked much since school but we became very close again in the last few months, he often talked about seeing our old group again, getting our sort of band back together etc. I didn't realise this was a common sign, and it was obviously a horrific surprise to me when, just days before I was going to see him again, I was told the news. I wish I had known this then, hopefully your comment will reach at least one person who needs to know this.

While watching the film I kept thinking of my lifeline, my best friend, listing a lot of stuff I wanna do with them. The World's End is like the inner voice in me, the hidden want, but I'm too reserved and selfless to go out my way and do things like that. That's why I'm cringing, but a good kind of cringe, whenever Gary goes out his way and the others is just so done with him but they also can't resist going with his flow. It's such a weird feeling of familiarity. I'm the type that would put dates on every letter and gifts, I would keep the candy/chocolate wrappers, the sea shells, the cinema tickets, I would screenshot the notification with their messages and upload it to google photos, I bought chess so we can try and learn it, roller skates, rubiks cubes, I'm always pushing to do something we want, there's so much more I hope to do that we can look back on, riding bikes, anime/movie marathons for a whole week, make a manga of us, go to concerts, travel and live together in one apartment with cats & dogs- I'm cringing on the inside because I see a reflection on Gary and I see how his friends are reacting, I understand how they feel. The awkwardness of "for good time's sake" and having a single person take the lead. This movie has more emotional impact to me but I love all the Cornetto Trilogy. I'm currently away with my lifeline, after I sorted out my life here I want to binge the 3 movies again with them. I feel bad for not telling them about this masterpiece but I'm holding onto it that it can wait. It's truly beautiful. Gary King is one of my favourite character of all time. And Simon Pegg too.

I love that every pub name is pertinent to what happens there. The First Post is where they begin The Old Familiar looks exactly the same as the first, and is thus familiar The Famous Cock is Gary, being recognised by the barman The Cross Hands is a reference to the robots signature attack with their hands The Good Companions sees the guys decide to work together to carry on the pub crawl The Trusty Servant is the Reverend Green, working for the robots The Two-Headed Dog is a rather brutal way of describing the twins The Mermaid is where the guys are seduced by the siren-like marmalade sandwich The Beehive reveals the robots ultimate plan to assimilate humanity into its collective The King's Head is where Gary finally loses it and confesses that the pub crawl is all he's got left The Hole in the Wall now literally has a hole in the wall after the car smashes into it And the World's End is, well, obvious.

Another fun fact of the Cornetto trilogy is in 1. Shaun of the Dead the cornetto colour is Red for all the blood and gore because Zombies 2. Hot Fuzz the cornetto is Blue simply because of the police theme And lastly 3. At Worlds End the cornett is coloured Green because of Alien/Si-fi theme

The 'closure' actually meant Gary would kill himself after reached The World's End. That was his plan. Doing the Golden Mile was the best thing that has ever happened to him, so he wanted to relive that experience one last time. This movie was kinda dark, because they're dealing with mental health issue. Gary was clearly depressed and suicidal.

@@Mikimarux I wouldn't say it was awful but it's nowhere near the Cornetto trilogy. To me Paul is a 7/10, well worth a watch. I've never felt any interest in rewatching it though and probably never will but I'm glad I watched it nevertheless, esp. since Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are teaming up as buddies once again. Since Edgar Wright had nothing to do with Paul, being a Hollywood production and all, it was never going to be as good as the Cornetto's. Obviously this is just my personal subjective opinion.

It's sampled from the 1966 film Wild Angels about a rebel biker gang. Fun fact, I guess. “Well we wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna be free to ride. Okay about to go on a crazy thesis rant because something y’all said in your commentary really clicked something with me. “This is like the epic brother battle.” And it kind of is. This is the one time you had to kind of choose sides because their plans didn’t align. In Shaun of the Dead, yeah they had spats, but ultimately they were brothers and had each other’s backs until the end (even after.), in Hot fuzz they are paired not by choice. But end up becoming brothers that have a similar goal. And in this, that’s the total opposite. It’s the first time we really see then at odds with each other to a point we have to say to ourselves who we are rooting for to win. Andy just wants to go home and try to win his wife back, and live a normal happy life. While Gary is the polar opposite due to his own self destruction, and depression. And all he wants to do is get wasted. To the point of risking the worlds end pun intended. And as viewers it puts us in a very interesting position. Because we love Simon Pegg and Nick frost, both as a team and individually. So when they are at such odds it puts you in a position that you just want them to hug and make up. And that moment in the robot lair is so great cause it’s finally them working as a team. It always breaks my heart that Gary left Andy. But I think it was also a cheeky way of saying all things must come to an end. Gary saw that with his and Andy’s friendship, and how toxic it can be. And instead does it in a way where at least they aren’t in danger. As far as we know. And it was Edgar’s way of saying the cornetto trilogy must come to an end. I probably sound insane. But it hit me much harder when watching this reaction.

Also I feel like I should point out, that while Edgar Wright did a lot, it was differently his and Simon Pegg's thing, with the two of them writing the Trilogy that really helps elevate it, and while I still like there work after, between the Trilogy and Spaced (Along with Jessica Stevenson writing that of cause) you can tell it's the duo that really make the magic work and both need to want to work together in the same roles to make another Cornetto film if they where to make one

It's very clear that Gary was extremely unhappy and didn't have a reason to live.. no hope, no goals and no human relationships... He got stuck in the past and didn't grow as a person. The Golden Mile, picking up his old friends and reliving his past when he WAS happy, hoping to feel like that again. Ultimately it would lead nowhere and his grown up and matured friends would go back to their lives, families and lifestyles while he'd be there having to live with himself which was not pleasant for him. It's a very bittersweet first half of the movie with lots of jokes and funny situations while also seeing how Gary is teetering on the edge. Lucky for him he had to mature quickly and find a purpose in life in the latter half. Nobody saw ANY of those events coming.. Another brilliant Edgar Wright plot. Shaun of the Dead will forever be my #1. I love the buddy cop comedy of Hot Fuzz but World's End is my #2 of the Cornetto trilogy simply because the characters, esp. Gary, is a lot more complex and different than in the other two movies. Perhaps World's End and Hot Fuzz share my #2, it's difficult to pick. I did feel that the main plot in Hot Fuzz could've been better. Everything else was ace. Simon Pegg was amazing as the badass in that one.

There is always Paul, which is Pegg and Frost without Wright. It is okay, but it does lack a certain sparkle. And Attack the Block, which is Joe Cornish directing and Nick Frost in the cast, along with John Boyega.

If you haven't already, you have to watch Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, the one Edgar Wright made between this and Hot Fuzz. Also Paul, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Both are very close to being a fourth part of the trilogy.

Have you ever seen Attack the Block? It's a very similar sense of humour, written and directed by Joe Cornish, who was one half of The Adam and Joe Show (the other half, Adam Buxton, played the journalist who got killed by the church cornice in Hot Fuzz), produced by Edgar Wright and Nick Frost and John Boyega star. It's the first film John Boyega was in too. It's one of my favourite films and it blends humour, action and Sci-Fi perfectly and also has a pretty strong social commentary.

seeing Rosemund Pike reminded me of her movie Gone Girl. It would be interesting to see you reacting to it if you haven't already.

It might be the time in my life I saw these, but I also think of these three films as a journey through life: Shaun is a young adult who is worried about making something of himself ("Hey! I've got plans for my life, I've got things i want to do!" ... "When?") Nick Angel is a young man who has made a career, but worries that this has made him isolated and unable to make connections with people ("You don't know how to switch off!") And Garry is having a mid-life crisis, wondering if he had wasted his life and wanting to recapture that time when things were simple and he was living his best life. On a similar note, SPACED works as a brilliant prequel to all of these, as Tim is just setting out in life, and that show explorers all the problems young people face, and it was my introduction to these as a young un myself. Pegg+Frost+Wright FTW! 😁

Simon and Nick did work again recently with Edgar, they did voices on his The Sparks Brothers documentary. Also Edgar does cameos in all 3 of the trilogy films.

You should check the tv show spaced which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and that show is directed by Edgar Wright. They made 14 episodes. Also the movie Paul starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is really funny.

If you love Edgar Wright you’d doubtless of heard of/watched SPACED? I’ll let you google it. One episode was the inspiration for ‘Shaun of the dead’. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are in it and it’d genius.

God, when you said this came out in 2013 I felt so old despite the fact that I'm not even 30 yet, lmao. I saw this movie twice in theaters because it was so damn good and another friend of mine wanted to see it after I went with family - it's absolutely the best ending to the trilogy because of how emotional it is without being any less funny. It was great to see you guys both watch the trilogy for the first time and revisit it, it's been fun as hell. :)
