Since the chopper will vibrate quite significantly I definetively think you need to bend up the tip of the fender so it does not vibrate down into the wheel and catch on one of the nubs on the tire and get destroyed. Match the bend with the same shape/angle as the seat so they will match.
@Dezeo

And also, a wheel will expand when rotating. Idk how fast you are planning to go with that thing but with a fender that snug it will definetively rub on the wheel while riding.

@Marckusmtrmth
@Marckusmtrmth Месяц назад
An old school fender spacing trick was to use a 1/2" or 1" rubber Hose between the fender and the tire. This gave the fender some clearance for when the wheel expands while riding the bike and keeps the fender from rubbing the wheel. I would not want any flex in a fender as well as that will allow it to get caught up in or rub the tire and cause possible catastrophic issues for the bike or rider. Love the bike by the way!

That back tire is going to need more gap from the fender. Any little bit of dirt, rock, or snow could easily get jammed between the tire and the fender. Orange County Choppers used to put sections of tubing across the tire then place the fender on top to keep the same amount of gap and help judge proper fender mounting.
@Revenant7n

This is an underrated comment. All the fender work was wasted 😂 It's going to need to sit at least an inch above the tallest part of the tread, the diameter is different at that point, so the brackets and fender are ALL sized incorrectly. "It's only one burnout away from being perfect" made me laugh because...the hell it is! I get he may not intend to ride it through thick mud, but it's currently not set up for anything but pavement. Plenty of people may disagree with me here, but I feel Ethan sent Edwin and Will to Florida on their own so he had time, and peace and quiet to focus on his own creativeness, without the distractions! I've loved seeing Will's build skills improve dramatically since he came on the scene, though I honestly loved this video, just watching Ethan work, with some really small side commentary. Some beautiful camera work, with it nearly all being fab/project related. Sometimes there just ends up being too many random aerial/random shots and side stories thrown in, that some vids feel like they're being fluffed out. Obviously, I'll still catch all of the videos, but this felt wayyyy more back to the original GHPC stuff that I fell in love with! (Don't take this the wrong way, you're one of three channels that I regularly stop to watch, everyone else can wait till I have a moment :P ) But I definitely felt the peace and quiet in the workshop with Ethan getting to do his best work. Maybe I just feel I'm too similar to will, Impatient, wanting to rush things, giving it a full send, and farrrrrr too easily distracted by conversations and other things around me... Ha ha ha! Great work by the whole team, even when the whole video is nearly entirely one man talking to the camera, I know at a minimum one of you is still hiding largely uncredited behind a camera, and Edwin does epic work editting everything into great vids! But in summary, I LOVED this one, please Mr Editor Edwin, more like this from Ethan where he really gets into explaining and showing what he's doing!

When working with sheet metal steel or aluminum make sure you aneal the sheets after working it, you may have to aneal it several times. Some of the problems you had with the fender would have been alot easier. You can heat it in one of 2 ways, the best way is to soot the panel with an acetylene rich flame and the adjust to a neutral flame and burn the soot off and allow to air cool. The other option is to use propane and heat the panel as hot as yo7 can and then let them to air cool
@KaosProject21
@KaosProject21 Месяц назад
damn thats good advice, this woukd work on a fender before extreme fender pulling too right? just burn the paint off clean and let it cool?
@KaosProject21
@KaosProject21 Месяц назад
clairfying, like a car fender, like just pull the fender off and take the paint off with a torch, then use real metal working tools to roll&pull it, then clean prime and paint it back?
@No1414body
@No1414body Месяц назад
@KaosProject21 he was building the piece from scratch, before you start shaping it needs to be annealed because the piece will work harden. On large panels you may need to annealed multiple times. On any pre-formed panels like a fender if you add alot of heat it will warp because stamped parts have internal stresses (they have been forced to shape) and adding heat will release the stress causing warping

27:25 "once these wheels are moving at a decent RPM will be a giant gyroscope that does not want to lean so will hold itself up". Once the wheels are spinning at a significant RPM, they'll want to maintain their current position, regardless of what that position is. This implies that if the bike is already leaning, it will continue to maintain that lean rather than auto-correcting itself to an upright position. The notion of 'uprightness' isn't a factor for it. Bikes doesn't automatically correct its lean due to the gyroscope effect. The primary reason bikes can auto-correct and maintain balance is due to the geometry of the steering system, specifically the trail. If this bike has minimal trail, it will not auto-correct effectively. Similarly, if the steering system lacks responsiveness to these auto-corrections, the bike won't maintain balance as expected.

(example) Ethan built Colonel Senders in the old shop before they got the tools they have now. and it's no doubt the best build that GHPC has turned out. when it was finished and it still is. at least up until this build. and we still don't know for sure how this build is going to turn out? the only draw back is it took almost seventy videos to build Colonel Senders.

The videography is excellent and i love the long videos where parts of the project and started and finished in one video. Such a nice change from most channels where its just numerous unconclusive videos

When you said "fender mark 3" I immediately thought about Iron Man when he build his suit...maybe some food for thought? lol

great work as usual - agree with other comments about needing clearance between the tire and fender for tire growth, vibration and debris. Rule of thumb is 3/8" for a tight fender, but I would go bigger on this beast...

Make a framed blue print of all the cad for the project and sell it on your store. Gringhard at the bottom. Bike side view at the top and cad in the middle. Would be clean for a tshirt or poster

The bike is wonderful - I'm just a little disappointed about one thing: No hexagons! Neither on the tank nor on the fender - what a shame! 😊 Very impressive piece of art! 🎉

I think it would be really cool if you made the mudguards out of aluminum tube to continue the tube chassis aesthetic, then used like a plexiglass shield. Kinda like a TVR Sagaris spoiler

I've been watching you guys since the rotating treehouse days, and I don't think I have ever commented on a build. But, I'm sorry if it hurts someone's feelings, that fender murdered the cool, unique look of this bike. It just SCREAMS Orange County Choppers. Like last season OCC when Jr. was gone.

Long format videos are awesome! Chopper fenders usually are laid on the tire with some thin tubing underneath to gap them consistently around the tire circumference. Just a thought. Looks good!
